Lila sat by the window, staring out at the manicured gardens of Ethan’s mansion. It had been two days since she had been locked inside, two long days of feeling like a caged bird with nowhere to go. Ethan had been coming to see her regularly, trying to act as though nothing was wrong—like they were in some kind of twisted relationship. He brought her food, asked how she was, and even tried to make small talk. But the underlying intensity of his obsession was always present, lurking just beneath the surface.
She couldn’t stand it. Every time he looked at her, every time his hand brushed against hers, Lila felt suffocated. She needed to get out of here before he pushed her too far—before she lost herself completely in his control.
Escape was the only option.
But escaping Ethan Blackwell wouldn’t be easy. He was meticulous, calculating, and he had the resources to ensure that wherever Lila went, he could find her. Still, she had to try. She couldn’t live like this, locked away in his mansion, treated like a possession. She wasn’t his—she never would be.
That night, Lila lay awake in bed, staring up at the ceiling as her mind raced with plans. Ethan had locked her inside, yes, but he wasn’t cruel enough to completely isolate her. She had access to the internet through a tablet he had given her. And although it was restricted, Lila knew how to be resourceful. She had already figured out how to bypass some of the security features, and with a bit of luck, she could use the device to contact someone for help.
She waited until the house was completely quiet, knowing that Ethan was likely asleep in his own room. Silently, she crept out of bed and grabbed the tablet, sitting at the small desk by the window. Her heart raced as she navigated through the system, looking for a way to send a message without being detected.
After what felt like hours, she found a loophole—a small opening in the security that would allow her to send an anonymous message. Her fingers trembled as she typed, keeping her request short and vague. She couldn’t risk revealing too much in case Ethan had access to her messages.
*“Need help. Trapped. Can’t talk much. Please send someone.”*
She hesitated before pressing send, praying that whoever received the message would take it seriously. It was a long shot, but it was the only hope she had.

The next morning, Ethan entered the room as usual, his eyes softening when he saw Lila sitting by the window. He always looked at her as if she were the most precious thing in the world, as if he couldn’t believe she was real. But that look no longer made Lila’s heart flutter—it only filled her with dread.
“Good morning,” he said, setting a tray of breakfast on the table. “I brought your favorite.”
Lila forced a small smile, trying to act as though nothing had changed. She couldn’t afford to let Ethan suspect anything. If he found out what she had done, her chances of escape would be gone.
“Thanks,” she murmured, not meeting his eyes. She couldn’t stomach the sight of him, not after everything he had put her through.
Ethan sat down across from her, watching her closely. “You’ve been quiet lately,” he said, his tone soft but probing. “Are you feeling alright?”
Lila nodded, picking at the food on her plate. “I’m fine. Just… trying to adjust.”
He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “I know this isn’t easy for you, but I need you to trust me. I’m doing this because I love you.”
Lila’s stomach twisted at his words. Love. This wasn’t love—it was possession, control. She had to remind herself of that, had to keep the fire of her defiance alive.
“I know,” she whispered, keeping her voice steady. “I just need some time.”
Ethan’s gaze lingered on her for a moment before he stood, clearly satisfied with her response. “Take all the time you need. I’m not going anywhere.”
As he left the room, Lila exhaled a shaky breath. The weight of the lie felt heavy on her chest, but it was necessary. She had to play along, at least until she could escape.

That night, Lila waited again until the house was quiet. She sat on the edge of the bed, clutching the tablet in her hands. She checked for any response to her message but found none. It had only been a day, but the silence was disheartening. What if no one had received it? What if she was truly alone?
As the hours ticked by, her hope began to wane. She needed to think of another way out. If no one was coming to help, she would have to rely on herself.
Lila’s thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Her heart leapt into her throat as she quickly hid the tablet under the pillow. Was it Ethan? Had he found out about the message?
The door creaked open, and to her surprise, a woman entered. She was dressed in a maid’s uniform, her eyes darting nervously around the room. Lila had seen her before, one of the staff members who kept the house running smoothly. But they had never spoken, not like this.
The maid shut the door quietly behind her and approached Lila, her expression tense.
“Miss,” she whispered, glancing over her shoulder as if afraid someone might be listening. “I found your message.”
Lila’s eyes widened, her heart racing. “You did? How?”
“I have access to the house’s communication system,” the maid explained quickly. “I saw the message you sent and I—I want to help you.”
Lila could hardly believe it. This was the break she had been waiting for. “You’ll help me escape?” she asked, her voice trembling with hope.
The maid nodded, her expression serious. “It won’t be easy. Mr. Blackwell has this place locked down tight, but I know a way out. It’s risky, though. If we’re caught…”
“We won’t be,” Lila said firmly, her desperation giving her strength. “We can’t be.”
The maid hesitated, then leaned in closer. “Tomorrow night, when the house is quiet, I’ll come back for you. Be ready. We’ll only have one chance.”
Lila nodded, her heart pounding with anticipation. She could hardly believe this was happening. After days of feeling trapped and hopeless, there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel.
The maid slipped back out of the room, leaving Lila alone once more. But this time, she wasn’t filled with dread. She had a plan—a real plan to escape Ethan’s obsessive hold.
---
The next day passed in a blur. Lila went through the motions, acting as though everything was normal. She forced herself to smile at Ethan, to pretend that she was starting to come around to his twisted idea of love. Every interaction felt like a lie, but it was necessary if she wanted to escape.
That evening, after Ethan had come to say goodnight and lock her door once more, Lila sat on the edge of her bed, waiting. Her heart raced with anticipation, her mind spinning with all the things that could go wrong. But she had to stay focused. She had to believe that this would work.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, there was a soft knock on the door. Lila’s heart leapt into her throat as she jumped up and rushed to unlock it. The maid slipped inside, her expression tense.
“Are you ready?” she whispered.
Lila nodded, grabbing her bag and taking a deep breath. “Let’s go.”
