Lila rushed out of the car as soon as Ethan released her wrist, her heart racing with a mixture of fear and confusion. She didn’t dare look back at him as she hurried into her apartment building, the weight of his words lingering in her mind.
“This isn’t over.”
His voice echoed in her thoughts, sending chills down her spine. There was something dangerously obsessive about the way Ethan spoke, the way he looked at her—as if he believed she belonged to him. Lila wasn’t used to being pursued so aggressively. She had always been in control of her life, her choices, her freedom. But with Ethan, that control seemed to be slipping away, and it terrified her.
Once inside her apartment, Lila locked the door and leaned against it, trying to calm her racing heart. The quiet of her small, cozy space was a stark contrast to the intensity of the night. She wrapped her arms around herself, suddenly feeling vulnerable in a way she hadn’t before.
What did Ethan want from her? And how far was he willing to go to get it?
She couldn’t deny that there was an undeniable attraction between them. Ethan Blackwell was a powerful man—physically, financially, and in the way he carried himself. But that power came with a darkness that unsettled her. He was too intense, too focused on her, and it felt suffocating. She didn’t want to be caught in the web of his obsession.
Determined to take control of the situation, Lila made a decision. She would finish the photography assignment for his event and then distance herself from him. There was no reason to continue interacting with Ethan beyond what was necessary for work. She couldn’t afford to get involved with someone like him—someone who was used to getting whatever he wanted, no matter the cost.

The next few days passed without any contact from Ethan, but the unease in Lila’s mind didn’t dissipate. She went about her routine, editing photos and managing her freelance work, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that Ethan was still watching her, waiting for the right moment to reappear in her life.
It wasn’t until a few days later, while she was walking home from a late-night photoshoot, that her fears were confirmed.
The streets were quiet, with only the distant hum of traffic and the occasional passerby. Lila kept her pace steady, her camera bag slung over her shoulder, as she made her way through the dimly lit streets. She was just a few blocks from her apartment when she felt it—a presence behind her.
At first, she thought she was imagining things. But as the seconds ticked by, the feeling grew stronger. Someone was following her.
Her heart began to race, and she quickened her steps, glancing over her shoulder. A tall figure in a dark coat was walking a few paces behind her, their face obscured by the shadows. Panic surged through her, and she turned down a side street, hoping to lose them.
But the figure followed.
Lila’s breath hitched as she broke into a full run, her footsteps echoing off the pavement. She didn’t know where she was going—she just needed to get away, to escape whoever was following her. Her mind raced with fear, and all she could think about was getting back to the safety of her apartment.
She rounded a corner, and then suddenly, a strong hand grabbed her arm, pulling her to a stop. Lila gasped, her heart pounding in her chest as she turned to face her pursuer.
It was Ethan.
“Lila,” he said, his voice calm but firm. “You shouldn’t run from me.”
She tried to pull away, but his grip was unyielding, holding her in place. “Ethan, what are you doing? Let me go!”
His eyes darkened, a storm brewing behind them. “I can’t do that. I’ve been trying to give you space, but you keep pushing me away. Don’t you see? You’re mine.”
Lila’s heart raced as she struggled against him. “I’m not yours! You don’t own me!”
But Ethan didn’t loosen his grip. His gaze was intense, filled with a dangerous mix of passion and obsession. “You don’t understand yet, but you will. I care about you, Lila. More than you realize.”
“Caring about someone doesn’t mean controlling them!” she shot back, her voice rising in frustration.
Ethan’s expression softened slightly, but the intensity remained. “I’m not trying to control you. I just want to protect you.”
“From what?” she demanded, her voice trembling with anger. “You’re the one I need protection from!”
Her words seemed to hit a nerve, and for a moment, Ethan’s grip on her arm tightened before he released her, taking a step back. He ran a hand through his dark hair, his frustration evident.
“I can’t let you go,” he said quietly, almost to himself. “I need you.”
Lila took a step back, her pulse racing. “Ethan, this isn’t normal. You can’t keep doing this.”
He looked at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of desperation and something darker. “I won’t lose you, Lila. Not now, not ever.”
Before she could react, Ethan took out his phone and made a quick call. Within minutes, a black SUV pulled up to the curb, and two men in suits got out, moving toward them. Lila’s stomach dropped as she realized what was happening.
“Ethan, what are you doing?” she asked, her voice filled with panic.
He stepped closer to her, his voice low and possessive. “You’re coming with me.”
The men grabbed her by the arms, pulling her toward the SUV. Lila struggled, her heart pounding with fear. “No! Let me go!”
But it was no use. Ethan’s men were too strong, and within moments, she was forced into the back of the SUV. Ethan climbed in beside her, his expression unreadable as the doors closed behind them.
“Ethan, please,” she pleaded, her voice trembling. “You don’t have to do this.”
But Ethan only looked at her, his gaze filled with an obsessive intensity that sent chills down her spine.
“I told you, Lila,” he said softly. “You’re mine. And I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you.”
As the car sped away, Lila felt a wave of panic wash over her. She was trapped—trapped by Ethan’s obsession, with no way out.
