The staff member looked at Bill as if he
were out of his mind.
"I married the wrong person! The one I
was supposed to marry isn’t her!" Bill's voice
grew even lower. Juliet, already irritated, couldn't help but laugh in
disbelief.
"Mister, do you not even know who
you're marrying?"
Juliet didn’t
believe him—was he just toying with her? She realized
now that he wasn’t the colleague her superiors had
arranged to meet her. She had rushed because she was anxious about the suspect
discovering she was an undercover cop.
Bill took a deep breath, trying to suppress
his anger as he looked at Juliet.
"And what about you?"
At this point, Bill assumed Juliet was a
gold-digger who knew his identity. How else could she be dressed exactly like
Honey?
Juliet couldn’t
reveal that she was a cop on a mission. Her silence only strengthened Bill’s suspicions.
He decided that no matter what, he needed
to get rid of her as quickly as possible.
"Get me a divorce certificate!"
Bill demanded again. The staff member, looking troubled, replied, "Sir,
according to Country A's laws, there is a one-month cooling-off period for
divorces."
Bill, surrounded by a cloud of anger,
gritted his teeth and said, "I’m a VIP."
Staff member: "VIP status only lets
you skip the line when getting married, but not for divorces! The system can’t be changed."
Juliet was stunned by what she heard.
A month?
And more importantly, she was now a married
woman?
Just as Juliet was at a loss, she suddenly
saw the suspect approaching them.
Juliet quickly grabbed Bill's arm,
pretending to be full of affection as she leaned in to kiss his cheek.
"I'm a cop, on a mission. The man at your eight o'clock is my target!
Please cooperate."
Bill stood still, trying to pull his arm
away, but Juliet, being an outstanding police academy graduate, managed to hold
on. By the time he tried again, the suspect had already turned and left.
Juliet sighed in relief and let go of Bill.
"Juliet! Do you copy? What's the
situation? Your backup is already at the entrance of the Civil Affairs
Bureau."
At that moment, her superior's voice
finally came through her earpiece.
Covering her ear, Juliet replied in a low
voice, "Captain, the suspect just left. Have my backup follow him
directly. No need to wait for me! He should believe me now."
"Understood! You should leave as
well."
"I can’t leave
right now."
"What happened? Are you injured?"
The captain's voice turned anxious.
Juliet replied, "I accidentally got
married just now."
Captain: "..."
The captain naturally didn’t believe Juliet, but she needed time to explain, so she agreed for
now.
While Juliet was talking to herself,
covering her ear, Bill’s patience had finally reached
its limit.
"Are you done with your act?"
With his height and long legs, Bill stood
before her like a wall, enveloping her in his shadow.
Juliet pulled out her badge from her pocket
and held it up to him.
"I really am a police officer!"
She quickly explained how she had mistaken
him for her backup.
Bill looked at her badge, still skeptical,
but she didn’t seem like someone bold enough to
impersonate a government official.
"You..."
"I need to report back and explain
everything! You keep the marriage certificate for now. Give me your phone
number, and I’ll contact you later to sort this
out!"
Juliet, eager to return, asked for Bill’s number.
Bill didn’t want to
give it to her, but realizing he’d need her cooperation
for the divorce, he decided not to burn bridges and gave her one of his private
numbers.
After noting it down, Juliet turned and ran
out, leaving Bill alone in the VIP room, feeling bewildered.
