After lunch, we had a free period because our teacher was absent. As I sat there, my eyes drifted toward her again. And to my surprise, she was looking at my direction too.

I could feel my heart pounding. Her gaze—there was something so different about her. I wanted to approach her, to talk to her, but I couldn’t gather the courage to get up. What if she didn’t remember me? Just as my thoughts raced, I heard a sweet voice call my name.

"Luca?"

I raised my head, and there she was—Maya. I wasn’t expecting this.

"Hey! Is that you? You've grown so much! It’s been such a long time since we last talked."

God... she remembers me! I thought she might have forgotten by now. "Maya, I can’t believe you remember me! I thought you'd have forgotten."

She smiled, "Come on, how could I forget you? You’re one of my best friends, after all."

Hearing that made my heart soar. I was so happy that she still considered me her best friend.

"I’m really glad to hear that," I said. "So, how’s everything going on your side?"

And just like that, we fell into an easy conversation. It felt so natural, as if no time had passed. I hadn’t had such a long conversation with anyone in a while. Time seemed to fly by, and before I realized it, the bell rang. She gave me a quick smile, said goodbye, and returned to her seat as the next period started.

A part of me felt disappointed. I wanted to talk more, to spend more time with her.

After school, as the dismissal bell rang, we lined up to leave the campus. I was walking home alone, still thinking about our conversation when I heard that familiar voice again.

"Hey, Lucca! Wait for me!"

I froze, turning around to see her running toward me, like some kind of fairy out of a dream, she run towards me and hug me tightly (Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but that’s how it felt at the moment. And she didn't hug thought lol)

She caught up to me, out of breath but smiling, and joined me as we walked home. Coincidentally, her house was in the same direction as mine.

We walked side by side, talking and talking. I didn’t feel tired around her at all. In fact, I loved listening to her. It all felt so sudden, but I couldn’t help but like her even more. Maya was an introvert, and that worked out for me, because it meant I was one of the few people she felt comfortable talking to. We started spending most of our days together, and soon enough, people at school—especially the juniors—began "shipping" us as a pair.

That’s how we reconnected. A few days later, my other friends returned, so life became more lively again. We had a lot of fun during that time. But, as always, happiness doesn’t last forever, and soon enough, our final exams loomed over us.

Our first exam was of Social Science, so my friends and I decided to plan for it. We each had our strengths: I was good at geography, while my friends were better at economics, political science, and history. The problem was, our roll numbers always got split—two of us in one class, and the other two in another.

I had two friends with roll numbers between 1 and 20, while my other friend and I had roll numbers between 20 and 40. So, we split up the subjects: I would study history and geography, while my friend would focus on economics and political science. We had a decent plan for cheating too—we only had a two-bench gap between us, so we thought we could pull it off.

But of course, my BAD LUCK is always Worst!

On the exam day, I ended up on the front bench, and my friend was sitting near the back—in a different row! I couldn't believe it. And as if that wasn’t enough, the entire exam was based on economics, political science, and history. Only one geography question was there—a 1-mark MCQ! From history, only a 5-mark and a 3-mark question showed up. The worst part? Our invigilator was none other than our Social Science teacher himself, so cheating was out of the question.

Tch… At least I passed_+
