Jeong Tae-ui's birthday - Fanfic
Rita's daily work at Riegrow's house is: Waking up early, preparing ingredients and cooking. When Jeong Taei arrived, nothing changed.
Today the work was the same as always, but it had a more special meaning because this was the first time she tried cooking the traditional Korean dish- seaweed soup.
Normally, Taei is not a picky eater. He even got used to eating dishes that had the flavor of his grandmother's cooking.
However, just today, Rita had put all her heart and soul into going to the local library to borrow a Korean cooking book in German (which she would not have been able to find in Kyle's study).
Today is Taei's birthday.
When the Riegrow family's children were young, she had to work hard to prepare German-style birthday parties, with the main purpose of inviting guests who had business relationships with the family.
Then when they grew older and the procedures became less cumbersome, she no longer had the opportunity to do that job. Even in the past few years, the second master has never been at home on a special occasion in his life.
Or maybe Rita is the only one who considers speaking special.
But everything changed when Taei arrived. Rita, who personally prepared the first birthday after so many years for her master, this time it was Taei's turn to organize it.
"Oh, I smell a familiar smell."
Jeong Taeui noticed it as soon as he opened the kitchen door. Initially, he intended to come here to ask if he could get some fruit before dinner, because on the dining table now there were only varieties that would not be good for an hungry stomach such as grapes or oranges.
But that scent made him forget his main purpose, and Jeong Taeui immediately exclaimed when he clearly saw the last dish that Rita was cooking.
"Ah! Seaweed soup. Is today a special day?"
"Mr. Taei, stand a little further away or you will be haunted by the smell."
Rita, who had been concentrating on stirring the soup until now, turned to look at Jeong Taeui standing next to her and continued.
"Don't tell me you forgot today is your birthday?"
"Eh? Ah, no, no, I remember that. But I don't think... Anyway, thank you very much."
Jeong Taeui quickly found a bag of apples and kiwis in the refrigerator in the kitchen.
Normally, if they were still in this cupboard, they would be untreated items, so he carried both bags over to the kitchen sink.
While he was attentively washing each fruit with salt water, he heard Rita's voice.
"Next time, Mr. Taei, don't talk like you're an outsider. If you want to eat something, just let me know."
Rita paused for a moment to put the finished pot of soup on the kitchen table.
While scooping each tablespoon into a small bowl, Rita added more.
"But only if the ingredients are available in Berlin and are not junk snacks, such as topoki."
Topoki? Hearing Jeong Taeui's laughter, Rita raised her head. But he just pursed his lips and shook his head looking at her.
After that, he quickly nodded and thanked Rita again. Looks like today is really a good day. The kitchen door was slightly closed when he left.
Jeong Taeui placed the plate on the table in a state of elation and overflowing happiness.
Just now he wanted to say that spicy rice cakes are actually not just a snack but also a traditional Korean food, or even her pronunciation made him confused at first, but Jeong Taeui decided intend to keep that to himself. He savored the small joys like tasting a little bit of cinnamon on the tip of his tongue- something that Jeong Taeui had the opportunity to taste when he was young and went to tropical countries with his brother.
It's moments like the present that make him feel like this place is his home.
"What 's up?"
The man with thick eyebrows and deep eyes asked when he saw Jeong Taeui just sitting and chewing Kiwi and smiling.
Those eyes could certainly have scared many people when he was young, but over time, wisdom and old fox had covered those eyes with an unpredictable depth, creating a feeling that just a glance Looking at someone, he can read that person completely.
"It's nothing, Sal. I was just thinking that kiwifruit tastes better today than usual."
"Really? Hmm, anyway, this is not a common fruit in our country, so I can't judge."
Sal is the name of that South American man. Calling it out straight is a bit rude considering the age gap between the two, but that's the case with any guest coming to this house. They don't care about each other's background, family background or age. What they need is someone who knows how to talk during the time they come here to rest.
While the two exchanged a few words, Rita brought up each dish according to different portions. As for Jeong Taeui, his portion includes a bowl of simple seaweed soup.
"Rita, the soup is delicious."
Jeong Taeui tried the soup before Rita could turn her back to the kitchen. Even though she didn't respond to his compliment, he knew she was smiling.
If she weren't hiding an obvious pride, she would have scolded Jeong Taeui for hastily trying to eat the soup while it was still hot. Also out of curiosity, Sal looked over here.
"Hmm, is it that delicious?"
"Ah, that's right, do you want to.."
"No no."
The refusal was accompanied by a wave of the hand. His eyebrows were slightly frowned, showing that he did not understand why that fishy-smelling soup was so attractive to Jeong Taeui.
In fact, the bowl of soup has been prepared very carefully according to Rita's standards. When he still went out to eat his birthday with his brother at restaurants near his house, the flavor of soup cooked according to Korean standards would be much stronger than this.
Jeong Taeui ate attentively and ignored the other guest. When he was almost finished and raised his head, he was looking at him with sarcastic eyes.
"You eat like you're starving."
"Leave me alone."
He ignored Sal's sarcasm, reached for a tissue and wiped his mouth.
"Is Riegrow not coming home today?"
Jeong Taeui's hand slightly stopped in mid-air.
Just now, while they were in the middle of eating, Kyle came home groggy because he had just attended a partner company party. Rita then prepared a hangover drink and was now in Kyle's room.
From that fact, we can guess that the person Sal is talking about is definitely not Kyle (even if he was, he would still call him by name).
"I don't know, do you need to see him for something?"
"Ah, no. I was just thinking why he let his lover spend his birthday alone like this."
"Huh? Lover? Who said that!?"
Jeong Taeui almost stood up and glared at the man in front of him. Sal still leisurely peeled each grape and looked keenly over here. The corners of his lips curled slightly.
"Isn't that so?"
"...."
Because he didn't know how to respond, Jeong Taeui stiffened his tongue and sat down. Then, he aggressively snatched the bunch of grapes from the plate that he was leisurely plucking one by one. Before the "Hey!" of Sal, Jeong Taeui only responded with a glare and put the peeled grape straight into his mouth.
The sweet and sour taste of grapes melted throughout his throat, making him feel sour in his heart as well. All the flavors of the bowl of soup just now have disappeared.
Facing him, Sal spoke.
"In our country, if you leave a woman alone on a date, she will cause a big fuss. That said, in front of the woman you love, even a fool will have to become a gentleman, he is delicate."
Even though he knew Sal was provoking him, Jeong Taeui still scoffed back.
"Is that why your country specializes in making movies about smart tycoons who die in women's bodies? It doesn't seem to be completely unfounded."
"Haha, it's possible, even though I've never experienced that situation myself."
Ugh.
The unchewed grape slipped down Jeong Taeui's throat. D-Don't tell me this man in front of me is a mafia boss of some gang? Suddenly, he wanted to return the bunch of grapes that he had eaten half to him.
"Come on, erase that gloomy face, young man. Shall we have a drink?"
The words rang out, causing Jeong Taeui to wake up. He looked at Sal, who had been standing there with two cans of beer in his hand. At first, he was a little hesitant and took a can from the man's hand. But when Rita walked down from the second floor to the dining room to clean up the dishes, she only glanced at them and there was no reminder about drinking in moderation.
Therefore, Jeong Taeui felt a little relieved and stood up and walked to the refrigerator.
He pulled another dozen cans from the cupboard and gestured to Sal.
"Shall we go to the living room?"
So the two friends, who had only known each other for less than a week, sat down in the living room with a table littered with empty cans. They clinked glasses and talked about all kinds of things, until Jeong Taeui's mind started spinning like he was thrown into a washing machine drum, did he stop.
Right next to the sofa on the other side, Sal was lying still and fell asleep. Jeong Taeui stood up but the dizziness made him unable to stand and had to lean one arm on the sofa.
He intended to go over there and tell Sal to go back to his room to avoid catching a cold, but as they say, drunk people weigh more than their normal weight, so Jeong Taeui, who was also equally drunk, decided to Go close all the doors instead of trying to drag him back to his room.
I don't know if Rita has gone to sleep yet, but the house is so quiet that only the wind can be heard.
The weather in spring is cloudy but still enough for the cold moonlight to shine down on the porch. Jeong Taeui stood blankly in front of the closed glass door and looked up.
It must be a place very far from here, right? Maybe he was somewhere with a time zone difference of nearly half a day from Berlin, so he came back later than expected.
But anyway, his birthday is almost near. He can only rely on the electronic watch to know that in a few minutes he will be about to turn a new age. This afternoon, Jeong Taeui called his brother because Jaeui was currently at the US branch of UNHRDO. So from now on, I will immerse myself in this quiet space for a while and celebrate my new age.
Previously, when Ilay saw that he drank too much and secretly hid all the beer in the refrigerator, Jeong Taeui got angry and shouted that the beer was just water. It seems like you're angry with him again, right? Don't remember anymore.
However, no human being lives together without quarrels or conflicts. Normally, he and Ilay often have many things to be angry at each other, but they are as small as spices, they will make this life more flavorful.
Sigh...
An irrepressible sigh slipped out of my throat. In the end, beer is still beer. Jeong Taeui still feels thirsty after consuming too much alcohol.
He gloomily walked into the dining room and took out a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator. Not knowing what to think, he conveniently bent down and took out a bottle of whiskey stored under the kitchen.
The sofa sank deeply and made a sound as his whole body fell down tiredly. He drank all the mineral water on the way here, so now he only has an open bottle of wine in his hand.
The sound of amber liquid hitting the glass walls stirred the stuffy night air.
Jeong Taeui tasted the wine on his lips and looked at Sal who was sleeping with one leg draped over the edge of the sofa, one leg falling to the ground.
Not directly hitting the tongue with a bitter taste like beer, whiskey is more mellow, even giving off a pleasant aroma like the scent of agarwood. Even though this bottle of wine costs several thousand dollars, Jeong Taeui still craves the spicy taste of the popular bottle of soju he drank with Jaeui or his friends back in Korea.
The nature of wine is like that, delicious or not depends on the drinking mood of the drinker. And those who sip them alone often do not have the satisfaction of waiting for someone to return.
When his head started to hurt and his stomach felt a little nauseous, Jeong Taeui put the cup down on the table. Before he was even startled to discover that Kyle's expensive bottle of wine was half empty, there was another noise that made him even more startled.
"Crap..."
Someone is opening the door to the house.
This area is extremely secure, who would dare to come all the way here? But no, with such a huge fortune of the homeowner, there are many brave people. Jeong Taeui stood up, but he almost fell to the floor from shock. Instead of going empty-handed, he grabbed a light bottle of wine with one hand because it was about to run out, then headed out the main door.
A figure was standing there, blocking the moonlight so Jeong Taeui couldn't see his face clearly.
"Who is that?"
He asked in a drunken voice and stepped forward. It seemed that the other person, who was removing something from his hand, had noticed his abnormality, so he asked again in a low voice mixed with surprise.
"How much did you drink?"
People will only receive answers when the other person is awake. And the person the man asked was definitely not in his right mind. So, instead of responding, Jeong Taeui rubbed his eyes and approached him.
Poof.
His whole body fell to the ground as one foot kicked the other. No, it seemed he had fallen into a place as solid as a wall but warm with human body temperature.
"Who is that?"
Jeong Taeui's hands fumbled and he asked again with a harsher tone. He touched from the top, but because he had no strength left, he soon slid down.
Jeong Taeui picked up his larger hand and looked at it with both eyes. Even though they were right next to his pupils, for some reason he still saw them blurred like a shadow.
"Fuck, how do you have 10 fingers on one hand?"
"..."
Hearing laughter right above his head, Jeong Taeui knew that his ears were still working. But his eyes were not like that, they were all dilated and only a white moon shape could be seen.
"You, your hands are...*sniff*...as beautiful as my lover's hands."
The praise broke out in hiccups. Perhaps Jeong Taeui himself didn't know how pathetic his appearance was with his head slumped against the other man's chest and his hands still touching him as if he were checking to see how many fingers he actually had.
It seemed like the other person was in a good mood so he asked him with a laugh.
"So where is your lover that lets you wander here like this? I thought you were sleepwalking."
"Don't know."
Jeong Taeui mumbled and shook his head.
"Hmm... Does that mean your lover is going away?"
"Uhm..."
"So...."
The man lasted a long time, lifted his whole body up and hugged him tightly in his chest. His chin rested on his shoulder as his head collapsed.
He leaned down and kissed his neck, his voice and warm breath evenly blowing on his ear.
"If he hasn't come back for a long time, then let me comfort you tonight, okay?"
"Huh.."
Jeong Taeui hiccuped loudly. That sob pulled back his mind, which was still floating in the chaos, causing him to wake up and shake his whole body.
"W-Who are you? Even though there are only 5 people at home right now, including 2 drunk middle-aged men and two elderly people, don't you dare do anything to me! I'm still...still completely awake."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and slowly pushed the bottle of wine into the man's chest.
"...."
Perhaps the 'thief' also felt speechless in front of the silly homeowner who hadn't even attacked him yet, threatening loudly while he couldn't hide his stuttering and panic. He just sighed and grabbed the bottle of wine from the table hands are limp.
After a moment of silence, he opened his mouth to tease.
"What if I keep doing something now? It's a waste when you're so delicious but the person who loves you leaves you like this. I'll definitely do better than him, I'll take you to heaven, okay?"
"!!"
This time Jeong Taeui tried to pull his whole body away when the other hand slid down and squeezed his butt.
Even though his legs were unsteady, he still stepped back and raised his arms in an "X" shape in front of his chest.
"You can't do better than him... No no, whether it's good or not... I don't care, I'll never sleep with anyone else except the person I love."
"Ha...."
Perhaps this time the man was truly happy when he burst out laughing out loud like that.
He just stood there laughing for a long time and when Jeong Taeui was still looking at him with wary eyes, he came closer, patted his head and walked back to the kitchen.
The floor of the house is tiled with porcelain white ceramic tiles, and the moonlight shining through the window makes the scene even more peaceful and poetic. Gentle rays of light flowed from her hair to her shoulders, then cast the silhouettes of two people, one in front, one behind, following each other into the kitchen.
Queue?
When Ilay stopped in front of the refrigerator door, the person behind him, not paying attention, bumped his head against his back. His eyebrows furrowed slightly when he saw Jeong Taeui retreating behind with his arms hanging down like a ghost.
"What are you doing?"
The white light when the refrigerator door was opened made Jeong Taeui's eyes squint because of the glare. Even so, he still did not turn away and mumbled.
"I have to watch over you for Kyle."
So it turns out that this ghost has been following him since he thought he was a suspect? Ilay held her forehead, not knowing whether to cry or laugh in front of someone who, when drunk, looked like another person.
After getting the necessary things from the refrigerator, Ilay reached out and turned on the light switch. He waited a few seconds for Jeong Taeui to regain his composure, then pinched his cheeks and patted them a few times.
"Look closely to see who is standing in front of you?"
Jeong Taeui raised his hands to rub his eyes so he could see the person in front of him more clearly. The other man was a head taller than him, with skin as white as a porcelain statue. Right now, that's all he can describe because his mind has spiraled, seeing that the person in front of him only has one head is already very good.
"I...Ilay?"
A name hung awkwardly on the tip of Jeong Taeui's lips as if Jeong Taeui still didn't believe it was real. He made a judgment based on the warmth and familiarity that person brought. While he was still thinking, he took a knife and cut the lemon in half and squeezed it into a cup.
Because he wasn't sure yet, Jeong Taeui asked a few more questions.
What's your name?"
"You just called my name."
"Um.... Sniff... So, how old are you?"
The hiccups still haven't subsided with my stomach rumbling like it's about to burn. Jeong Taeui suddenly felt his throat was a bit thirsty so he decided to go to the refrigerator to get water. But the other person promptly stopped him by placing a glass cup in his hand.
"Same age as you."
"What about your blood type?" He continued to ask while drinking, causing tiny bubbles to appear on the surface of the water.
"Same blood type as me."
"Why do you always answer vaguely?"
"But is that true?"
The other man was still looking at him intently as if afraid that his hand would drop the cup. Waiting until he finished drinking, he breathed a sigh of relief, took it and placed it on the table.
"So what is my date of birth?"
Jeong Taeui asked one last question.
After stating the specific date, Ilay stepped closer and supported him. He was considering whether he should stand here and listen to this person's unconscious chatter or should he carry this person back to his room. Then, Ilay saw a flash of bitterness flash across her pink, drunken face, and Jeong Taeui smiled slightly in irony.
"So you're probably not Ilay. If he remembered my birthday, then why didn't he come back until now?"
Tik..tak...
The hour hand at that time was already pointing past the number 1. Without looking at the clock, just noticing the dark sky outside and the whole neighborhood falling asleep to know that it was t and a smile flickered.
* * * * * *
Before those lips could open and speak, Jeong Taeui hastily scratched his head and beat the drum.
"Um... When did you come back?"
Ilay's arm lifted from Jeong Taeui's chest and stopped on his cheek. His thumb gently rubbed his gradually hot face, his eyes curved up as if to ask:
"Have you forgotten?"
If you've been stabbed, you have to stick with it. Even though he didn't know how long he could pretend, the memory of last night was too humiliating, Jeong Taeui couldn't just admit it so easily.
"No, I don't remember anything. I'm serious."
At the end of his excuse, he looked up at him with fear. Because he still had one arm wrapped around him and hugging him, Jeong Taeui had to lie in Ilay's arms at such a close distance.
"Hmm... No wonder, when you saw me, you happily ran up to me and kissed me fiercely, not wanting to let me go..."
"Huh? Hey! Don't misrepresent yourself, at that time it was clear that you..."
The scream rang out then faded and fell silent as Jeong Taeui's eyes closed tightly. I know that when people drink alcohol, they become very confused, but I can't believe that I could fall into his stupid trap like that.
A gentle breeze swept across his face. Ilay was laughing with amusement. Because he was so shy, Jeong Taeui didn't bother to open his eyes to verify if it was true. He turned his head down and buried his face in the pillow.
Despite his frustration and discomfort, that obnoxious smile still persisted as if he was feeling very comfortable.
After a while, seeing that Jeong Taeui didn't bother to move, Ilay lifted his head and pulled his whole body into her arms.
The warm pillow with soft fabric is replaced by a solid chest.
"Tae.. Tae..."
No one answered.
"Taei ah....Taeui..."
When he raised his head, a kiss fell on the tip of his nose.
"Sorry, Tae."
Ilay said while her lips still stopped on his face. Afraid that he would insist on apologizing until he opened his mouth to respond, Jeong Taeui sighed and surrendered.
"Okay, I know the way back. Anyway, I didn't promise anything."
That statement is only meant to calm things down. Over the past few years, although he and Ilay have never had an official contract, on special occasions like this, they have never been apart.
It's not necessarily a hidden law or anything like that, it's simply a belief. They understand each other to the point that even if no one says anything, that trust will never be shaken.
Of course, Ilay understands that better than anyone.
"Do you want any gift?"
Yesterday when he returned, he had a gift in his hand. But that and this question are unrelated, because what he means here is a redemption gift.
Jeong Taeui was silent for a bit.
Even though he was a bit upset to see him miss the appointment, he wouldn't be petty enough to force Ilay to compensate. But come to think of it, this is also the first year this has happened, right? Therefore, Jeong Taeui took time to consider Ilay's words.
"Hmm... Ilay, you were born in *, right?"
He just nodded and looked at me as if he didn't understand.
"If you calculate correctly, I'm a few months older than you. Even though it's still the same year, it's more than a second. Wasn't Jaeui carried out before me, so he became my older brother..."
"So that?"
"I want you to call me brother."
The atmosphere sank into silence. During that time, Jeong Taeui attentively observed every expression on Ilay's face.
He seemed to be seriously thinking about a certain problem. At first his eyebrows were slightly furrowed, then gradually relaxed and his lips curved into a smile where even his white teeth could be seen.
"Okay, brother Taeui."
"..."
Although this feeling was a bit strange, Jeong Taeui's face gradually turned red for some reason. Reading his facial expression, Ilay smiled even more brightly and approached.
"Taei, do you miss me at home? Have you ever wondered about me these past few months, brother?"
For the first time, Jeong Taeui felt like the person in front of him was not Ilay but like someone else. To the point where he was wondering if he was drunk or not.
And this was also the first time he heard Ilay speak completely in Korean. These past few years, he secretly learned the language from me, but I've never heard him say a single word. And now, this sentence full of honorifics with poor pronunciation sounded so cute that his heart couldn't help but tremble.
It's a pity that I couldn't record it.
His face turned red, until he couldn't stand it anymore, he raised his hands and placed them on his cheeks and kissed his lips that were still calling out the words.
"Dangshin" (which means honey)
Following the momentum, Ilay returned his kiss and pressed Jeong Taeui back down on the bed.
His eyes stared intently at his gray eyes, for a long time, deeply, as if he wanted to pour out his heart so that he could see his sincerity. After that, Ilay kissed him and whispered.
"Wish you a happy birthday, Taeui."
The window was wide open, inviting the sunlight to dance in the room. The scene outside was peaceful with clouds drifting lazily, while inside the room was filled with morning sunlight, the curtains were blown away as cool breezes rushed in.
A new age has come, filled with peace, countless good things, and.. even love.
