Birthday party

After she left my mom made me soup .

Then I took a nap. I only woke up after three hours.

When I came down stairs Eve was waiting for me.

She looked worried but somehow relieved.

We went to the park next to our house.

I still had a little headache but it wasn't so bad.

We sat on a bench under a tree in the park .

" How are you feeling ? " she asked me .

" I still have a little headache but I'm fine " I said.

" I'm really sorry " she said her eyes fixed on me .

" What for ? " I didn't want to blame her.

" You got beat up because of me " she said .

" It's not your fault I don't know how to fight " I said I wanted it to sound like a joke .

" Maybe you should start watching action movies there are a lot of people beating up each other " she said and smiled.

" Yeah but on one condition " I said

" Say " she said.

" If we watch them together ." She smiled.

" My mommy says I shouldn't watch such movies but, yeah I will "

And that's how our love for action movies started.

Later that evening we watched undisputed a movie staring Scott Adkins. We liked it. She like it better than I did.

Few years later she invited me to her 9th birthday party. We were still friends although she had never invited me to her birthday this was my first time. I went alone to her house. Mom said she couldn't come with me because she was busy but as I grew up I learned that there was more to it than just being busy but anyway we will get there that's a story for another time .

I reached her house.Three knocks and her mom, Auntie Lola opened up .

" Oh hey Will " Auntie Lola said . She has always been nice to me .

" Good evening Auntie Lola " I greeted her.

" Good evening William " she smiled.

" Come on in the party is that side " she said .

I stepped foot in Eve's house for the first time. It looked big from the outside but it actually was bigger in the inside, bigger than ours .

" Is that for Eve ? " Auntie Lola asked me noticing something I had wrapped. My mom had suggested I come with a gift but I hadn't thought about bringing a gift .

" Yes "

" That's nice of you " she said and patted my head gently.

The party was in the living, Birthday decorations all around. Not very many people had come some neighbors and a few kids from school. I landed my eyes on Eve, She looked heavenly as always, she wore a beautiful tiara and a pink dress with sparkles. When she saw me she came to me and put a birthday hat on my head.

" Happy birthday " I said to her .

" Thanks for coming " she said.

" Eve " someone called her from behind,

she looked at him then back at me .

" How is the party ? " she said to me ignoring him.

" Well it's nice, fancy, cool " I said. I still hadn't given Eve the gift I brought for her.

" Thanks my dad organised it but he couldn't come " she said in a sad voice .

" Sorry about that " I said .

The boy who had called her came where we were standing .

He looked older than us. He was actually the oldest kid at this party. He was 13 by then .

" Eve I brought you something " he was holding something wrapped in pink.

He handed it to her. When she opened it .

She found a Barbie doll. Her eyes brightened up and she smiled. " Thank you so much Jackson " she said her voice cheerful .

" Welcome I brought it from New York when I was coming, I picked it specially for you " he said.

At that moment I felt stupid. My gift for Eve was a cup cake. Mom had made it for me but I decided to give it to Eve . My mom's cupcakes were nice so I thought I should let Eve try them too but obviously I couldn't compete with a Barbie doll from New York right.

They continued talking about their life in New York. There families were actually friends from a long time. They were even neighbors from New York. I stayed there silent wondering what to say to fit in the conversation. Jackson's mother called him and he left us alone for sometime .

" That's my friend, Jackson from New York he's cool right " she said smiling at the Barbie doll .

" Yeah " I said.

" Aren't you going to give me your gift " she said looking at my poorly wrapped cupcake.

" Oh ! Here " I said and handed it to her .

Before she could open it her mom called us for cake cutting .

" Come let's go " she said .

" Jackson come and cut the cake with Eve." Auntie Lola suggested. Jackson stepped forward. We sung happy birthday day to Eve before the cake was opened.

Auntie Lola opened it and my eyes landed on a huge cake with a big Nine on it and the words'Happy birthday Eve ' . I felt more stupid cupcake and cake .

Jackson and Eve cut the cake and served .. Eve delivered cake to me personally.

After that her mom called her to take pictures with Jackson . Don't know why they favoured Jackson this much. but wait he was visiting from New York and I was just a neighbor across, so yeah maybe that's the reason.

They took pictures then Eve called me to take one with her .

And By the way after the party the next day I shared the cupcake with her she said it was sweeter than the birthday cake but I think she didn't want me to feel bad I had also tasted the cake and it was sweeter. That's how I started putting more thought in birthday gifts for Eve .
