Episode 5

Thailor walked with his heart pounding as he approached Dimitrei's office. The space that greeted him upon crossing the threshold, majestic and elegant, only heightened his nervousness. The sober but imposing decor reflected the power of the man who awaited him inside.

For Thailor, an employee who was just beginning to make a name for himself in the company, a private meeting with Dimitrei Uvarov was an honor, but also a monumental challenge. Even more so, after having presented before the man who headed one of the largest empires in the industry.

Anxiety took hold of him. His mind reviewed every word, every graph of his presentation. Had he done it right? Had he missed any critical errors? Despite having practiced exhaustively, nervousness continued to haunt him as he crossed the threshold into the office, where Dimitrei was already waiting, standing next to a huge window, observing him with a firm and impenetrable gaze.

Dimitrei, who spent most of his time in Russia, rarely visited the headquarters in America. This fact only increased the doubts in Thailor's mind. Why was Dimitrei there on this occasion? Was it to point out some flaw that others had overlooked?

The door closed behind him with a soft click, and Dimitrei, without moving, indicated with a slight gesture that he should take a seat on a nearby sofa.

"Sit there," the alpha ordered, his voice low but authoritative.

The weight of his gaze made Thailor feel exposed, as if each of his secrets were laid bare. He swallowed, trying to maintain his composure as he obeyed.

"Did I make any mistakes in my presentation, sir?" he asked, trying to make his voice sound calm, although inside he felt everything in him tremble.

It was the moment he had anticipated and dreaded at the same time. He was hoping for some sign, anything that would give him an indication of what Dimitrei thought.

Dimitrei walked calmly towards him and sat on the sofa opposite Thailor, leaning back with apparent relaxation. His eyes remained fixed on him.

"You did a good job. I would say it was impeccable," he said finally, his tone so neutral that Thailor found it hard to read his intentions. "However, there is something I want from you."

The relief Thailor felt was almost palpable, but the uncertainty did not disappear. What could Dimitrei want from him?

"Is it something related to work? Am I going to be transferred?" he asked cautiously, his mind searching for possible explanations.

Dimitrei did not respond immediately. Instead, he stared at him for a moment longer, as if he were evaluating every aspect of Thailor before speaking.

"Wait for my assistant," he said at last, with a tone that left no room for objections. "I have requested your file and will make a decision after reviewing it."

Time passed slowly. After a few minutes, Tony, Dimitrei's assistant, entered the office with a thick folder in his hand. He handed it over without saying a word, and Dimitrei took it, beginning to leaf through it carefully.

Thailor watched in silence, feeling the tension growing with each second that Dimitrei spent reviewing the documents. What was he looking for? He knew that he had been hired after a demanding selection process, but now he was beginning to doubt whether there was something in his history that could have escaped his control.

Twenty minutes seemed like an eternity as Dimitrei examined every detail, and Thailor began to wonder if he was also reviewing his chaotic family history. Those memories of his father, the tangle of legal problems, and the inheritance disputes were topics he preferred to forget.

Finally, Dimitrei closed the folder and left it on the table. His eyes returned to Thailor, who held his gaze, aware that frankness was what Dimitrei valued in his interlocutors.

"Do you like working here?" Dimitrei asked suddenly.

"Of course. Working here is a dream for anyone, and I am no exception," Thailor replied sincerely.

Dimitrei leaned slightly forward, and the atmosphere in the room seemed to become denser.

"I am going to offer you a job, but it will be outside your usual duties," Dimitrei began, his tone calm but loaded with tension. "I will pay you much more for it. But if you do not accept, you will have to leave the company."

Thailor's world seemed to stagger at that moment. He had no idea what the job was, but the weight of Dimitrei's warning hit him hard.

"I want you to be my exclusive partner for an indefinite period," Dimitrei said, without mincing words. "I will take you to Russia, introduce you to my father, and you will have to fulfill that role until I decide otherwise. I do not accept a no for an answer. If you refuse, you must leave your position here."

The words fell like a hammer on Thailor. The air in the room became denser, and a sense of disbelief invaded him. He needed that job desperately. Working at Dimitrei's company had been his greatest ambition, but this offer went beyond anything he had imagined.

"Okay, I'll accept it," he said finally, although the speed with which he uttered those words did not reflect the whirlwind of emotions that consumed him inside. Dimitrei nodded, satisfied.

Thailor knew that his life would change drastically, but what awaited him with Dimitrei was still a complete enigma.
