Chapter 5: To Survive

Everyone was screaming outside. I noticed something: I pointed my finger at the doctor who was badly wounded on his left arm. "He has a bite," I said. Ate Beth looked at it and saw the doctor's injury. "Excuse me... Could you... tie yourself?" Ate Beth was speaking Korean, and I didn't understand what she said or what she was asking the doctor.

The doctor and the others looked at her in deep confusion. "I'm sorry, sir, but I need to tie you up... I need to do it... just in case..." The doctor couldn't believe his ears; even I didn't know what they were talking about.

I knew he was mad about something Ate Beth said. Then, all of a sudden, we heard a crack. The doctor stopped talking, and we all looked at him, terrified...

His face twitched, and his arms were twitching. He dropped his head; it was low yet twitching, and a cracking sound could be heard from him. The nurse pulled the patient to her, protecting him from the doctor.

The doctor stopped twitching, and his head was low. "Doc...?" Ate Beth called him, her face pale with fear, her body trembling in deep fear. She was about to check on him when I grabbed her hand and shook my head before we heard a small growl from the doctor.

We stopped moving. I heard the nurse whimper in fear, and my body was shaking as well when I remembered the last event back in Davao.

The doctor slowly raised his head. The moment he did, my eyes widened before he let out a loud growl and ran at me.

I put my hands on his shoulders to push him away, despite my weak body since I was still not recovered from the plane crash.

I tried my best to push him away, but he was too strong for me. The zombie doctor pushed me onto Anna's bed and tried to bite me. Ate Beth immediately went to us, grabbed the doctor's shoulder, pulled him away from me, and pushed him to the floor.

The nurse and the patient were both screaming in fear, and because of their voices, the zombie doctor was attracted to their sounds and attacked them.

But before he could get to them, Ate Beth went to him and pushed him. "Ate Beth!" I tried to stand up and went to them as quickly as possible and saw the doctor zombie push Ate Beth against the window and...

"AHHHHHH-!!!!" The doctor zombie managed to grab her neck and bite her. I stopped in my tracks and looked at it in horror... I couldn't let a word escape from my mouth.

I felt like my whole world had just come crashing down. I shook my head, my body trembling. "ATE BETH!!!!!!!!" I shouted her name desperately, and the doctor zombie turned his head toward me before he came for me...

I couldn't control my tears of pain, but deep inside, I was angry with myself. I glanced at the table and saw a knife and immediately grabbed it when the doctor zombie almost got me. "ARGH!!!!!" I raised my hand with the knife and stabbed his head.

He stops moving; his mouth is open to bite me. I take the knife away from him, and he falls on the floor, but it isn't enough.

I kneel down and stab the doctor's head, chest, shoulder, and stomach. I stab him everywhere, and blood splashes on my face and the hospital cloth. The doctor's body gushes blood, which spreads on the floor...

I am crying in a mess while stabbing him; it isn't enough. I am mad... I stop when I hear a groan from Ate Beth. I look at her; blood is coming out of her neck.

I let the knife go, and my body weakens when I try to reach for her. I barely walk towards her, but still, I manage to get to her. I sob, seeing blood from her neck, and I try to stop the bleeding by placing my hand on her neck.

"Pakiusap... Kumapit ka.... At Beth, please..." I beg her to fight and not to close her eyes; my heart breaks. She is like a mother to me now. "Mel... Once... You... N-need... To... Tie me... Up.... Mel...." She is struggling to talk; her eyes and skin are starting to change. I sob hard and look at the nurse.

"Please... kung may tali man dito... kunin mo para ma-tali natin si Ate Beth," I beg the nurse to find the rope if there is any inside the room so we could tie Ate Beth. Even though the nurse could not understand my words, she understands what I want.

She left the patient on her side and started rummaging through the whole cabinet. "Mel... My sons...." She tries to grab something from her neck. I help her out, and it was a locket necklace. "T-take it.... G-gave... it... to my—argh....!... my—.... S-sons....!"

My hands were shaking as I started to remove it from her neck. "Please... Tell... Them... Please... Sabihin... Mo... Sa kanila na... Mahal na mahal... Ko sila... Tell them... That I love them so... m-much... my... Taehyung and... N-namjoon..." Tears were in her eyes; her last words were for her son to tell him that she loves him so much. Before she closed her eyes...

I shook her body. "Ate Beth...? Ate Beth...? No... No... Please... No..." I screamed out in pain as my tears couldn't stop falling. My heart hurt. I saw the nurse; she witnessed the scene. She had a rope in her hand. I hugged Ate Beth tightly but let her go after a second because she would be changed any minute.

I looked at her and then at my bed. She understood what I wanted. We both dragged Ate Beth until we placed her on my bed. We tied her hands and feet, and we also covered her mouth with a cloth. "Forgive me... for doing it you..." After that, the nurse went to the patient.

I looked at Ate Beth and noticed that I still had the locket. I opened the locket to see two pictures inside. On one side was Ate Beth with her two sons; one was a handsome young man, and her other son was tall and had dimples on his cheeks, while the other side of the photo was of her husband. Ate Beth married a Korean man...

My tears fell and I couldn't stop when she opened her eyes. Her eyes changed and she saw me. Ate Beth, who is now a zombie, growled at me and tried to get out, but because of the robe I tied around her with the nurse, she couldn't escape. I sobbed and cried hard as I saw her...

It was my fault... Because of me, Ate Beth died... She died protecting me.

The students at Yeon were peacefully attending their lectures, studying, participating in activities, and taking lessons without knowing that they were all in danger.

"That's weird; Namjoon and Hoseok are late," Seokjin said, feeling a bit worried and suspicious. "Maybe they did something important, or maybe they're cutting classes," Yoongi replied, and Seokjin gave him an are-you-serious look.

"Namjoon is the president of this school; he can't be late or cutting classes," Seokjin said, unable to believe what Yoongi had suggested. He thought that Namjoon must be sleeping right now and was late for class.

Yoongi sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Hoseok and Namjoon are roommates; I wonder what they are doing now." Yoongi was sure that they wouldn't want to be late for class, but it was suspicious why they were late this time.

Meanwhile in Cafeteria

Taehyung, Jimin, and Jungkook were all together to buy something. Taehyung was looking at his screen and then scanned the whole room. "Hey guys, have you seen Ella?" Rona saw the three of them and approached them.

She had a worried expression when she approached them. Taehyung shook his head. "I was about to go to you and ask if she's already here. Ever since the accident three days ago and her being grounded in her condo, she has been acting weird," Taehyung said.

"Do you think something happened to her? I mean, seeing a dead body is very traumatic," Jimin, who was chewing his food, said, and Jungkook looked at him with his eyebrow raised. "And how did you know?" Jungkook asked in a sarcastic way.

"From movies," Jimin replied, and Jungkook scoffed in disbelief, then chuckled. Rona joined them since Ella was not in school yet; she was worried that something bad might have happened to her.

"I think after this, I'll look for Ella. I'm worried sick about her. I haven't seen her these past few days..." Rona sighed as she ate her food.

Taehyung was also thinking about Ella and what happened to her in her condo. He didn't want to think of anything bad, so he shook off the feeling. As the friends continued eating their breakfast or snack, a loud scream was heard. All the students stopped eating and looked behind them...

At the outside of Yeon High school

A group of zombies running from Yeon Village started to attack the students. When the students saw this, they began to run for their lives.

One student tripped and was bitten by three zombies before he died, while others were caught by the zombies that were running and chasing after them.

Outside the school, there were screams and yells from the students who were running for their lives.

In Senior High school hallway

Seokjin and Yoongi decided to go to Namjoon and Hoseok's condo, but as they were about to leave, a man was running down the hallway, screaming, "RUN....!!!!! RUN.....!!!!" He was not alone.

He was with two girls who were running, their faces looking pale. Seokjin was about to stop the man when he grabbed him by the shoulder. "Don't stay here... Run...!" he said, and then he ran before Seokjin could ask anything.

They were confused about why they were running. The hallway started to become quiet; students from the classroom stopped cleaning and began to look. They all stopped until they heard more screams and growls coming their way.

When the students ran, a bunch of zombies followed them. The senior high school students saw it, screamed, and started to run as the zombies attacked them. Seokjin and Yoongi weren't able to move at what they saw.

They couldn't believe their eyes; a zombie had killed a bunch of students. Seokjin snapped and looked at Yoongi as he shook his body. "Yoongi! Let's go...!" Yoongi snapped as well and started to follow Seokjin to run.

At Cafeteria

Junior students looked behind them; they were all confused when five students ran inside. The AI door closed, and one of them threw the food from the table. The students were all shocked at what he was doing.

He grabbed the table and put it against the AI door. The other students who ran with him helped him. "Hey!" Taehyung went to them. "What are you guys doing? Stop that!" Taehyung said as he tried to pull them away.

But one of them pushed Taehyung and said, "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! THERE'S A MONSTER THAT KILLS AND COMES AFTER US!" the girl shouted at him. He was confused until he saw another student running toward the cafeteria. She was banging on the door, begging to be let in.

"What is—" Jimin was about to ask when his eyes widened at the sight of a bunch of zombies behind the girl. "FUCK IT! THEY ARE HERE!!!!!!"

"Wha.... w-what.... is that?!!!!" I saw a bunch of zombies coming our way. Students from table to table left as they started running. The student who held the door left and started running; Taehyung left the door and ran.

"EVERYONE TO THE BACK OF THE DOOR!!!!" Taehyung shouted as he helped the girl stand up after she tripped on the floor.

"Taehyung!" Jungkook called his name when more zombies managed to get in and began to chase their prey. Rona screamed and started to run, but as soon as she ran, a student bumped into her, and she fell to the floor. Everyone was bumping into each other while running, causing the zombies to attack them on the floor.

One of the zombies was on top of Rona. Rona put her hand on its shoulder as she screamed for help.

Jimin went to Rona to help her; he managed to pull the zombie away from Rona. Jungkook hit the zombie with the tray when it tried to get them. "Let's go!" Taehyung exclaimed as Jimin and Jungkook helped Rona stand up and follow Taehyung.

Taehyung looked around to see some students climbing on the table that reached the window. "There!" he said before going there.

Taehyung climbed first, then Jungkook, and finally Jimin. "Give me your hand," Jimin said, reaching out his hand to Rona. Rona took his hand, and Jungkook helped Jimin pull Rona up. All of a sudden, a zombie grabbed her foot, and Rona screamed.

Taehyung saw a broom on the table, grabbed it, and tried to hit the zombie on the head while Rona kicked the zombie in the face.

And finally, the zombie let her go, and Rona finally climbed up. Taehyung opened the window wide. "Jimin and Jungkook, you both go first; Rona and I will follow!" Jungkook and Jimin nodded their heads before going and jumping out of the window.

Both of them saw the zombie biting and killing the students on the ground; even the sports ground was filled with zombies and students dying.

Taehyung went out first, then he looked up and reached his arms. "Jump!" he said before Rona jumped. Taehyung made sure to catch her and put her down. The four of them started to run when someone bumped into Rona. "Ahhhh-!" "Hey, it's okay." Rona looked up to see Seokjin, and behind him was Yoongi.

"Hyung!" Seokjin looked to see Taehyung. "Where's Namjoon hyung?" Taehyung asked, his heart beating fast, thinking that something bad had happened to his brother. "He's okay; he's with Hoseok. Both of them are in their condo," Seokjin reassured him. Taehyung sighed in relief.

Rona couldn't help but ask, "How about Ella...? I haven't seen Ella since I came here...!" Rona shuddered, and Seokjin looked at her with a serious face. "We can't stay here; we need to go, now!" Yoongi said, giving the others the signal before they ran off.

Groups to Groups were stuck together... Group A, which consisted of Namjoon, Hoseok, and Ella, was trapped in their condo. They couldn't get out because there was a group of zombies, or walkers, waiting for them, eager to bite and kill.

Group B, which was from the hospital not far from Yeon High School, faced a different challenge. Mel never expected things to turn out like this; she thought everything would be okay, but she was wrong. The members of Group B who needed to survive were Mel, Anna, Rolona, the nurse, and the patient. However, how could they run and survive when Anna and Rolona were still unconscious? To make matters worse, Rolona was in bad condition.

And finally, Group C ran for their lives until they found a safe place for now and stayed there. They were ragged in breath, panting heavily from their running. As Groups A and B are in danger, Group C will need to find a way to survive the apocalypse. The groups need to help each other to survive: Seokjin, Yoongi, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook, and Rona. The six of them need to survive to help their friends who are still in danger.

But will these three groups be able to survive? Or are they going to die at the hands of the zombie apocalypse? Still, they need to move if they want to survive the apocalypse...
