Davao City, Airport
"Ella, mommy will miss you so much. Remember to call us when you get there" mom looks at me with her teary eyes as I smile at her and give her a tight hug "don't worry mom, I will" I said as I pull away from her.
"Flight 206 from Manila to Korea is now boarding" As soon as I heard my flight being announced, I grabbed my suitcase and looked at my mom one more time and smiled. After that, I turned around and walked away.
This is actually my first time going alone without my parents. Two months ago, I received the news that I had passed high school in Korea. I was confused about how I got in, as it turns out my grandmother accidentally put me there, thinking it was an audition. *sigh* I'm going to miss my family here.
3 hours later
My flight successfully arrived in Korea. I was nervous at first, but I remembered what my mom said to me. She mentioned that she has a friend who works in Korea. She also said that she told everything to her friend and that she is ready to help me. As people walked straight, I saw many people waiting for their loved ones.
I guess I'll need to find her As I was about to walk around, my phone rang. I grabbed my phone to look at the caller, but it was a mobile number, so I didn't know who was calling me. I decided to answer it. "Hello?" "Is this Ella?" I raised my eyebrow as I heard my name on the other line.
"Yes, who is this?" - Ella
"Hello Ella, this is Alexa, your mom's friend. Your mom told me everything. Are you here in Korea?" - Aunt Alexa
"Yes, I'm already here. I was about to find you, but I can't seem to see you since there are a lot of people." - Ella
"Wait, hold on. I'll raise the board so you can see it." - Aunt Alexa
I turned around to look for the board, but I couldn't find it. "Aunt Alexa, I can't find it," I said, worried, and then started to walk to find the board. "The board is pink and it says, 'Welcome to Korea, Ella.'" After a few minutes, I finally saw the board. A woman in her 30s waved at me. "Ella! Here!" I smiled and went to her. Aunt Alexa hugged me tight. "Goodness, I can't believe I'm able to see you! The last time I saw you, you were a little kid, and now, look at you! You've grown up to be a beautiful lady!" I chuckled at her words. "Thank you, Aunt Alexa. I'm also closer to being an adult now." Aunt Alexa smiled at me as she hugged me again."
After a few hours of eating lunch and riding in my aunt's car, I'm finally at her house. She shows me where the guest room is, and here I am, in my room. Honestly, my aunt's house is big; her husband is a billionaire, so I'm not surprised that her house is a mansion. I lay down on the bed as I look at the ceiling.
"My... such a long day..." I stretch my arms even though I'm lying on my bed when my phone rings. I look at the ID, and it is my best friend from the Philippines. I smile and answer the call. "You, what's up, bitch!" she greets, and I roll my eyes and then chuckle. "Yeah, you bitch. That's so bad for saying goodbye to a friend," I scoff at the line. "Yeah, it's hello, not goodbye, you dumbass she replies, and I laugh. "Mel? Seriously????" We both laugh through the line.
"Anyways, how are you? Did you already land in Korea?" - Mel
"Yeah, I did. I'm going to miss you there." - Ella
"Well, not me, you bitch." - Mel
"You know what, forget it. I'll hang up the call." - Ella
I was about to turn off when she said, "Wait," and I grinned as I rolled my eyes. "Okay, okay, sorry. But anyway, you're so lucky to be there, you know? I mean, you will get to meet some Korean actors there, and OMG, some oppas!" Mel screams, being a fangirl of Korean actors. Well, that's my best friend, who loves to watch too much K-drama. "Take care of yourself, especially since I'm not there anymore" Mel said in a sad tone. "Aw, don't be sad, Mel. I'll visit after school," I smirked, and I could hear her frustrated voice on the other line. "Oh, come on, that's a long way to go!" I laughed at her reply. "Remember, Mel, time flies too fast," Mel scoffed.
"How's Anna?" - Ella
"She's fine, still being a brat." - Mel
"I can hear you, you know!" - Anna
"My!" *laughs* - Ella
"Hehehe, anyway, it's better if you are in Korea because the Philippines is getting weirder and weirder." - Mel
"Huh? What do you mean?" - Ella
"Well, I don't think you heard the news, but it said that there's a zombie virus that has spread here in the Philippines. The scientists still haven't found the cure yet..." - Mel
"Well, that's one big scary virus. It's like Train to Busan, and all of us are dead!" *laughs* - Ella
"Yeah, right. What's more is that there are some military personnel here in Deca. I guess they're checking something." - Mel
"Well, stay safe, and I hope you don't die." - Ella
"Yeah, yeah. Love you too. Gonna hang up now, and oh! If I die and turn into a zombie, I'll come to find you and bite you so you can be a zombie as well. Remember, girl, best friends forever until death." - Mel
Mel and I both chuckle from our joke "Okay, see you on summer!" "Bye!" She said with "Muah" before hanging down the call. I smile for myself...
But...
What I didn't know was... It will be the last time I'm calling her.
2 weeks, at Seoul Korea
Everything was messed up; the zombies are all over the school. I could hear their growls outside my dorm. What's worse is that my roommate, who turned into a zombie, is now in her room. I locked her in there before she could bite me.
I tried to call Mel, but she didn't answer. I scrolled down social media and found that a virus has spread in the Philippines, and people there are infected. My heart aches as I think of my family in the Philippines and my best friend...
2 weeks ago, at Seoul Korea
*phone vibrates*
I whined upon hearing my phone vibrate on my desk. I covered my ears just to avoid hearing the sound. "Just please, 5 more minutes..." I whined. The phone kept vibrating until I gave up and groaned out of frustration. I grabbed my phone to stop the alarm, and that's when I saw the time. "OH MY GOD! IT'S 7 AM?!! I'M LATE!" I immediately got out of bed, made sure to dress up, fixed my hair, and then prepared my things before going downstairs.
"Good morning, Ella! Join us for breakfast," Aunt Alexa invited me nicely with her smile. I'm sorry, Tita, I would love to, but I'm late!" I said, ready to run, but she stopped me by calling my name. "Take this with you and let our driver take you," she said, giving me a lunch box. I smiled at her and thanked her for her kindness.
At Yeon City School..
"Thanks!" I said before getting down and taking my baggage from the driver, who bowed at me. "Woah!" I looked at the high school, and it's freaking big. I looked beside me to see some elementary students and kindergarteners. In the other buildings are the high school, and finally, the biggest building is the university. "No wonder it’s called Yeon City School," I said to myself and grinned before walking across to the side.
At the entrance of the school, I kept looking at the card that my mother gave me. I was so busy looking at it that I wasn't paying attention to where I was going until I bumped into someone. "Oh no, I'm so sorry!" I apologized, and I heard the man chuckle at me. "It's fine, just watch where you're going next time," he said.
Dang, I hit something hard! I thought to myself before looking up. The boy smiled at me; his boxy smile appeared, and his hair was golden with no eyes. Woah, he's so handsome! "Wow, are you new?" he asked, making me snap back to reality. "Ah, yeah! I am," I said nervously as I nodded.
"Wow, you're lucky because I'm one of the students who will show you around. The principal is actually waiting for the newbies to arrive, and one of them is you. I'm Kim Taehyung, a 4th-year high school student." He extended his arms toward me, and I smiled. "Ella, Ella Cruz," I replied. Taehyung looked at me as he tilted his head to the side.
"Cruz? Are you perhaps from Spain?" I blinked at his question and shook my head. "No, I'm from the Philippines." Taehyung's mouth formed an "o" as if he was amazed. "Wow, I never knew the Philippines and Spain were related," he said, making me chuckle.
Taehyung nodded his head in agreement. "Oh, since you're here, I'll be showing you around." We both smiled at each other before he guided me the way.
"First off, we have the entrance. This entrance that you're standing at is for the high school. This whole building is for high school students."
(Imagine that the entrance is big, imagine it's different high school)
"Wait, is that an escalator?" Teahyung hums, "Yep, let's go up! And you'll see!" Teahyung and I ride the escalator. I look down and see some students chatting together. "And here, Ella, is the cafeteria, computer lab, and library. Over here is the cafeteria, and on this side is the library and computer lab." I look at the cafeteria, and it is big. I also walk to the next side and see the library; everyone is busy reading. In the next room is the computer lab, where everyone is also playing games and doing their homework.
I am amazed by what I'm seeing. The school has some American vibes and Korean influences. Next, Teahyung shows me the next hallway. "In this hallway are the classrooms. This hallway is for first-year high school students, and even the third floor is full of first-year students."
By the way, what year are you?" Teahyung ask "4th year" Taehyng claps his hand "woah, we're same! Oh The Senior classroom are right in the next building that is near at the university." Taehyng said making me eyes widen in surprise. said making me eyes widen in surprise.
"Woah, this hallway is giving me some American vibes," Taehyung chuckles after hearing my words. "Well, because the owner of this school is American and his wife is the principal. Because of their love for each other, they made this school for us. They want young children to have a bright future!" Taehyung exclaimed.
Next, Taehyung and I walk to the rooftop. "Is this the end?" I ask, and he shakes his head. "This is just the beginning for the building. The rooms we see are for junior high school. The senior high school is over there!" Taehyung points, and I take a glance at it. My jaw drops to see a bridge that crosses over to the other side.
"Bruh!!!! I never knew there was a bridge! And fuck! It's a glass bridge?!!" Taehyung laughs as he makes my jaw close. "Language, lady, you don't want to get sent to the principal's office on the first day of school, right?" he said as I covered my mouth.
Taehyung shows me around the building. The building is not just for the Senior High School; it also has clubs inside and a gym. Our tour was about to finish when he said, "And of course, I have to show you where the dorm is, but you might be surprised." I blinked and tilted my head. I was about to ask when I heard something noise coming from Taehyung. "Oh, that's my phone," he said. "I need to answer it."
After the phone call, Taehyung was asked to bring me to the principal. He knocked at the door, and we heard a faint voice inside the room. "Well, Ella, it's nice to see you. I guess I can't show you the dorm, but the principal's assistant will help you. I'll get going now; see you around," he said, waving at me before walking away. I took a deep breath before opening the door.
"Ah, Ms. Cruz, I've been waiting for your arrival. Come inside, please." I nodded before stepping inside and gently closed the door. "Please sit down, Ms. Cruz," the principal said. I went to the seat near her desk and took my seat. "Do you want something? I can ask my assistant to get you some," she smiled at me.
"Oh... But," Ella began.
"It's fine, I insist," the principal replied.
"Alright, juice please," Ella said.
"Okay, dear. Ms. Kim, please make juice for Ms. Cruz," the principal instructed.
Ms. Kim nodded before she went outside the room. "So, Ms. Cruz, how do you like the school? I'm sure Mr. Taehyung showed you around," she said as she took some documents. "Umm... Yes," I replied. The principal chuckled.
"Are you nervous?" - Principal
"Yes, kind of," - Ella
"I see. Don't be. I'll be looking at your info for a bit, and I'll start asking some questions. Oh, it's normal to be nervous. But make sure to take a breath in," - Principal
"Yes, Ms..." - Ella
"I'm Kang Sandra, but call me Ms. Kim," - Ms. Kang
I nodded and smiled at her nervously as Ms. Kim took one folder before she took her seat. "So, Ms. Cruz, you are from the Philippines. You just turned 16 on July 24. Your achievements are top class with the highest score of 98 and also with honors. Wow! Some of your awards are from reading, quiz bee, and singing. And you joined the art club and the varsity volleyball team at Bernardo High School." Ms. Kang looked at me, still holding the folder, while I looked down nervously.
"Wow, Ms. Cruz, you are something else. I believe you are supposed to be in the same class as Kim Namjoon," said the Principal.
"Ah, it's actually a long story," replied Ella.
"Well, it's not a problem. Your mother already enrolled you here with the help of her friend, and of course, you couldn't be enrolled without meeting me first, Ms. Cruz," said Ms. Kang.
I looked at her nervously. "Congratulations, you are enrolled at Yeon City School," she said as I chuckled with happiness. "Thank you! Thank you, Ms. Kang!" I smiled at her. The door opened, revealing Ms. Kim holding a tray with coffee and juice. "Ah, Ms. Kim, come in and give the juice to her." Ms. Kim went inside and placed the tray on the desk. She took the coffee and put it to the side of Ms. Kang while she handed me my juice.
"Ms. Kim, one more thing, please guide Ms. Cruz to the dorm." "Yes, Ma'am," Ms. Kim nods. "Please follow me, Ms. Cruz," she said, and I start to stand up and lower my bow to Ms. Kang before following Ms. Kim.
Ms. Kim and I went outside of the building and went to the other side. "This school is not just called Yeon City School without this," Ms. Kim stops in her tracks, and my eyes widen. "Oh my... What's behind the gate?" "You'll see," Ms. Kim said before she called the guard. The guard nodded his head as soon as he opened the gate. My eyes widened even more, and my jaw dropped in surprise.
Inside the gate were buildings; it looked like a resort. "Ms. Cruz, welcome to the Yeon Dorms. This is where elementary grade 6, high school, and university students live. Please follow me," she said. I was still looking and trying to process what I was seeing. This school never disappoints in surprising me "Woah!" I said before following Ms. Kim.
The Yeon Dorm is not the only one here; there are some stores for school supplies and a store for snacks. "Hello, Mrs. Cho. This is Ella Cruz, a new student. She is here to get her dorm," Ms. Kim said as she introduced me. "Ah, I see. Hold on," Mrs. Cho said as she got something like a piece of paper and started to pick them one by one until she picked number 7.
"Ah, her room will be in Tower 7, on the 7th floor, and her room number is #107, the same room as Ms. Roberts," Mrs. Cho said as she looked at me and smiled. "Welcome to the Yeon City School, Ms. Cruz," Mrs. Cho welcomed me and gave me the key and a card.
"Well, Ms. Cruz, I'll be leaving now. Someone will take you to Tower 7, and you will be the one who goes to your room," Ms. Kim said.
"Thank you, Ms. Kim," Ella replied.
"You're welcome," Ms. Kim said.
As Ms. Kim left, a voice called out, making me look behind me. A man in his 40s smiled at me. "Hello, Ms. Cruz. I'm Mr. Park Junghyeon; I'll be at your service for the day. Let me carry that for you." Mr. Park took my baggage from my hand and told me to follow him. It seems like this will be a long journey for me here.
