The next morning, Emma woke up with a lingering warmth from the previous night. Her mind replayed the moments with Lucas, the way his hand had felt in hers, and the softness of his kiss on her cheek. There was something undeniable between them, something that was growing stronger with each passing day. As she prepared for the day, she found herself smiling at the thought of what might come next.

It was a place that held a lot of memories for him, and Emma hoped that by visiting it, she might gain some insight into his past.

The shop was tucked away on a quiet street, its windows filled with old cameras and black-and-white prints. Emma stepped inside, the scent of chemicals and old film greeting her as she entered. The shop was small and cluttered, but there was a charm to it, a sense of history in every corner.

As she browsed the shelves, her eyes fell on a photograph that caught her attention. It was a portrait of a woman, her expression somber, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and longing. Something about the photo felt familiar, as if she had seen that face before.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” came a voice from behind her.

Emma turned to see an older man, the shopkeeper, standing behind the counter. He smiled warmly at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

“Yes, it is,” Emma replied, turning back to the photograph. “Who is she?”

The man hesitated for a moment before answering. “That’s Claire. She used to come here often, back when Lucas first started taking pictures. They were… close.”

Emma’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Lucas’s name. “Lucas? He took this photo?”

The shopkeeper nodded. “He did. Claire was his muse for a time. They had a special bond, but… well, things didn’t end well between them.”

Emma felt a knot form in her stomach. So, this was the shadow that had been lingering over Lucas—the reason for the sadness in his eyes. Claire, the woman in the photograph, was someone who had been important to him, someone who had left a mark on his heart.

“Do you know what happened between them?” Emma asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

The man sighed, shaking his head. “I don’t know all the details, but from what I gather, she left suddenly, without much of an explanation. Lucas was devastated. He hasn’t been the same since.”

Emma stared at the photograph, her mind racing. Claire was a part of Lucas’s past, a past that he hadn’t yet shared with her. She felt a pang of jealousy mixed with concern.
