Episode 15: Shadows of doubt
the early morning sun filtered through the heavy curtains of the guest room, casting soft, golden light across the bed. Armaan stirred, his body still sore from the events of the previous day. His mind was foggy with exhaustion, but there was an overwhelming sense of relief—he was safe, for now. When he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Rudra, sitting quietly by the window, staring out into the vast expanse of the garden. His posture was tense, and there was a deep furrow in his brow, as if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders."Rudra?" Armaan’s voice was barely above a whisper.Rudra turned, his intense gaze softening slightly when he saw Armaan was awake. "Did you sleep well?"Armaan nodded, though the sleep had been fitful at best. "Better than I expected."Rudra gave a small nod in return but didn’t say anything. The silence between them was heavy, filled with all the things left unsaid. Armaan could see the worry etched into Rudra’s features, and it made his chest tighten. For a man so powerful, Rudra looked vulnerable in that moment—like someone trying to hold onto something slipping through his fingers."Are we really safe here?" Armaan asked, pulling the blankets tighter around himself."As safe as we can be," Rudra replied, standing up from the chair and walking over to him. "Aarav and I have taken every precaution. No one knows about this place."Armaan nodded, but his heart still raced with unease. It wasn’t just the danger outside that troubled him. It was everything—Rudra’s distant demeanor, the mysterious events surrounding him, and the growing tension between all of them. The more he got involved with Rudra and Aarav, the more he realized how little he knew about their world."Rudra…" Armaan started, his voice faltering slightly. "Why did you bring me into all of this? I’m just a florist. I’m not part of your world."Rudra looked at him, his expression unreadable. For a moment, it seemed like he was about to open up, to reveal something deeper, but then he closed off again, his walls going back up."You’re not just a florist, Armaan," Rudra said quietly. "You’re important.""Important?" Armaan repeated, confused. "To who? To what?"Rudra didn’t answer right away. Instead, he sat on the edge of the bed, his hand brushing against Armaan’s. The touch was brief, but it sent a wave of warmth through Armaan."You’ll understand in time," Rudra finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. "For now, just trust me."Armaan wanted to ask more, to press for answers, but the look in Rudra’s eyes stopped him. There was something broken in Rudra, something he wasn’t ready to share. So instead, Armaan nodded, choosing to trust him—for now.As the two sat in silence, the door creaked open, and Aarav stepped in, a serious expression on his face."We need to talk," Aarav said, his voice low. "It’s about Nisha."Rudra stood immediately, his entire demeanor shifting. "What about her?"Aarav closed the door behind him and stepped closer. "She’s asking too many questions. She’s been poking around, trying to find out where you and Armaan went after the attack."Armaan’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Nisha. He hadn’t thought about her since they escaped, but now that she was back in the conversation, a cold dread settled in his stomach. The way she had looked at him in the flower shop—the possessive way she clung to Rudra—had unnerved him."What do we do?" Armaan asked, his voice shaky.Rudra’s eyes darkened, and his jaw tightened. "We stay out of sight. Aarav, I need you to keep an eye on her. Make sure she doesn’t get too close."Aarav nodded. "Already on it. But Rudra, she’s not going to stop. You know how she is.""I know," Rudra muttered, running a hand through his hair. "But I can’t deal with her right now. Not with everything else going on."Aarav sighed, crossing his arms. "It’s only a matter of time before she figures out where we are. You’ll need to deal with her eventually."Rudra’s expression hardened, but he didn’t respond. Instead, he turned back to Armaan, his gaze softening slightly. "I need you to stay here today. Don’t go anywhere. Aarav and I will handle this."Armaan’s heart sank. He didn’t want to be left alone in this strange mansion, but he knew he didn’t have a choice. "Be careful," he whispered.Rudra gave him a small nod before heading toward the door. Aarav followed closely behind but paused at the doorway to glance back at Armaan."Don’t worry," Aarav said with a wink. "I’ll make sure Rudra doesn’t do anything too reckless."With that, the two men disappeared, leaving Armaan alone in the quiet room. He lay back down, staring up at the ceiling as his thoughts spiraled. He couldn’t shake the feeling that things were only going to get more complicated from here. And somewhere deep down, a part of him feared that Rudra’s world was far darker and more dangerous than he had ever imagined.
