secrets in the dark

**Episode 11: Secrets in the Dark**

Night had fallen, casting long shadows across the cottage. The small, flickering light of the fireplace was the only source of warmth in the room, but even that couldn’t chase away the cold tension hanging in the air. Armaan sat on the couch, trying to steady his racing thoughts. Rudra and Aarav were in the next room, speaking in hushed tones, their conversation too low for him to overhear.

Despite the fear and confusion swirling inside him, Armaan couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of safety being with Rudra. There was something about the way Rudra had been so protective, so determined to keep him safe, that made Armaan’s heart ache with emotions he wasn’t ready to face.

Suddenly, the door to the room opened, and Rudra stepped out, his expression unreadable. Aarav followed close behind, his eyes landing on Armaan with a mixture of concern and determination.

“We’ve decided to stay here for the night,” Rudra said, his voice calm but firm. “Aarav will take the first watch. I’ll take over in a few hours.”

Armaan frowned, confusion lacing his features. “Watch? Are we expecting someone to find us here?”

Rudra hesitated before answering. “We can’t be too careful, Armaan. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”

Aarav offered a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Armaan. We’ve got it covered. Just try to get some rest.”

Armaan wanted to argue, to demand more answers, but he could see the strain on Rudra’s face and knew better than to push. Instead, he nodded, forcing a small smile in return. “Alright… I’ll try.”

As Rudra guided Armaan to the bedroom, he placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, squeezing it lightly. “I promise, I’ll explain everything when the time is right.”

Armaan nodded, appreciating the gesture even though his mind was still racing with unanswered questions. “Okay, Rudra. Just… be careful.”

Rudra gave him a small, reassuring smile before closing the door behind him, leaving Armaan alone in the dimly lit room.

Lying in bed, Armaan found it impossible to sleep. His mind kept replaying the events of the past few days—the sudden danger, the mysterious threats, and the strange connection he felt to Rudra. The more he thought about it, the more he realized just how little he knew about the man who had turned his world upside down.

Who exactly was Rudra? And what kind of life had he been pulled into?

Hours passed, and sleep still eluded him. Finally, Armaan couldn’t take it anymore. He quietly slipped out of bed and tiptoed to the door, careful not to make a sound. Opening it just a crack, he peered out into the living room.

Aarav was sitting by the window, his gaze focused on the darkness outside. The room was silent, save for the occasional crackle of the fire. For a moment, Armaan considered going back to bed, but something pushed him to step out.

As he moved closer, Aarav turned his head, his expression softening when he saw Armaan. “Can’t sleep?”

Armaan shook his head, sitting down across from Aarav. “Too many thoughts. Too many questions.”

Aarav nodded, as if he understood exactly what Armaan was feeling. “I figured. It’s a lot to take in.”

Armaan hesitated before speaking, his voice barely above a whisper. “Aarav… what is Rudra hiding? I can tell there’s something he’s not telling me.”

Aarav sighed, glancing towards the closed door of the bedroom where Rudra was resting. “It’s not my place to say, Armaan. But I can tell you this—Rudra cares about you. A lot more than you might realize. He’s doing everything he can to protect you.”

“Protect me from what?” Armaan pressed, desperate for some kind of clarity.

Aarav looked down, his expression conflicted. “From the life he’s involved in. Rudra’s… he’s not just a businessman. There’s a side to him that he doesn’t like to show—a side that’s dangerous.”

Armaan’s heart sank at Aarav’s words. “What kind of side?”

Before Aarav could answer, the door to the bedroom creaked open, and Rudra stepped out. His eyes immediately locked onto Armaan, a mixture of surprise and concern crossing his face.

“Armaan,” Rudra said, his voice low. “What are you doing up?”

Armaan looked at Rudra, then at Aarav, before finally speaking. “I need to know the truth, Rudra. I deserve to know what’s really going on.”

Rudra closed his eyes for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts, then he walked over and sat down beside Armaan. “You’re right,” he said quietly. “You do deserve to know.”

Taking a deep breath, Rudra began to explain. He told Armaan about his connections to the underworld, about the powerful enemies he had made, and the constant danger that followed him because of it. He explained that the people after them were not just after money or power, but control—control over him, and by extension, control over Armaan.

Armaan listened in stunned silence, his mind struggling to process the gravity of what he was hearing. It felt like something out of a movie—a dark, twisted world that he never imagined he would be part of.

When Rudra finished, he looked at Armaan, his eyes filled with a mixture of guilt and vulnerability. “I never wanted you to be dragged into this, Armaan. But now that you are, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe. Even if it means… keeping you away from me.”

Armaan’s heart ached at Rudra’s words. He reached out, placing a hand on Rudra’s. “I don’t want to be kept away, Rudra. I want to be here, with you. We’ll face this together.”

Rudra looked at him, a flicker of hope in his eyes. “Are you sure? This isn’t going to be easy, Armaan. There’s a lot of darkness in my world.”

Armaan nodded, his voice steady. “I’m sure. I’m not going anywhere.”

Rudra squeezed his hand, a small smile playing on his lips. “Then we’ll face it together.”

As the night wore on, the three of them sat in the living room, keeping watch as the fire crackled softly in the background. The shadows outside loomed large, but inside, there was a sense of unity—a feeling that, no matter what came their way, they would face it together.

And for the first time in days, Armaan felt a sense of peace, knowing that he wasn’t alone in this. He had Rudra and Aarav by his side, and together, they would find a way to navigate the darkness ahead.
