Nora's dream

Olivia returned from her trance as the maths teacher mr. Smith entered the class. Mr. Smith is a man in his forties and is a strict teacher. Along with the attendance sheet, he brought a brown package that gave the students an omnious vibe. As feared, after placing the things in the table mr. Smith called out the class prefect and handed him some papers from that brown package,

'Colins, distribute these to everyone. Today we will take a surprise test on trigonometry.' Hearing the words 'surprise test' and 'trigonometry' everyone in the class except Olivia turned pale. Mr. Smith's surprise tests are truly of surprise, they come without any prior notice. But this doesn't bother Olivia like others as she masters all her subjects right after they are taught by the teachers and keep practicing regularly so that she could attend tests anytime. The class prefect Colins handed out all the questionaires to the students.

'You will have 30 minutes to answer all the questions and your time starts right now,' mr. Smith announced as he started to monitor the student's activities.

Nora gulped looking at the question and tried to recall if she has practiced any of these questions. Nora is a bit outgoing person. She spends most of her time running around here and there and her curiousity about others is one of a thing. Any gossip inside the school reaches her as fast as lightening. She is immersed in these so much that she gets little time to study and not to mention trigonometry is her most hated topic. As expected, Nora found no question that she fully remembers.

'Psst, Olivia, hold your paper in a right angle,' Nora tried to attract Olivia's attention but suddenly felt a chill through her spine as if a devil was looming over her. She slowly looked back only to frick out finding mr. Smith standing right behind her.

'Go sit in the last desk on the left corner,' mr. Smith told her with a warning gaze.

Nora cursed at her bad luck and took her things to move to the desk mentioned by mr. Smith. After the test ended, Nora returned to her desk beside Olivia with a bitter expression. She only managed to answer half of the questions by peeping at others papers whenever mr. Smith looked away from her. Mr. Smith took the scripts from Colins after the latter gathered them and left the class after giving some homework for the next day. Olivia looked at the gloomy Nora and said with a smile,' Everytime you roam around without studying a bit and after the test you look like this. Isn't it time you started studying seriously? We'll leave the school this year and the entrance exam is not a childs play at all. Besides, you will have to get a good result if you want to attend the college of your choice.' 'Not even half of the year has passed, the teachers are already giving this much pressure. Had they not been this strict and kept us busy with all these tests and blah blah I could have studied better with some peace,' Nora complained.

'The teachers are doing this for our betterment. You always say these things but every year at the beginning when the teachers are a bit laxed, you slack off even more than this. It's only when the teachers start taking tests that you start studying a bit,' Olivia pointed out.

'Alright, alright, I'll start studying from now on. It's not like I'll be able to do good enough to match you and get into the same college even if I study the whole day, so what's the point of this?'

'At least you will be able to get into the art college that you dream of, so this always has a point,' Olivia mentioned, as she knew how much Nora wants to get into the state art college to study fashion designing. Nora's family is not that affluent and thus she had to start working part time from an early age which was one of the reasons of her not being able to study properly as she couldn't gather her concentration after all that she goes through the whole day and also the reason she tries to keep herself busy in gossips and other matters which helps her forget the worries of her life. There is a big chance that Nora has to start working full time after the graduation.

Nora looked at the sky through the window,' I am so bad at this that sometimes I think whether to start working right after the graduation or not.'

'Come on, its never so late to start working for your dream. Hasn't studying fashion designing always been your dream?' Olivia tried to encourage Nora.

'Ok, I'll try it for your sake, bestie,' Nora smiled at Olivia as she promised.

Both of them prepared themselves for the rest of the classes.
