Episode 13

"Follow me, it's this way…" said Prince Maximus, and Gianna trailed behind him.

"It's not just about learning to fight in controlled situations; you must also do it in the forest with real dangers," he said, and she was attentive: she had already been warned about the final test, where she would demonstrate what she had learned.

Both walked through the forest, and several warriors went ahead; she carried her sword and her bow, knives at her sides, everything necessary. He ordered her to take them, and she did.

She walked beside him as he looked ahead; the forest was covered in snow; winter had arrived.

Gianna, in her training clothes and leather jacket, followed through the vast forest until she looked up at the sky; great dragons attacked other creatures, and warriors fought against wolves, vampires, and elves; there was a giant cyclops. She sighed and tried to calm down.

"Show me, girl; I want to see how ready you are." The young woman ran through the snow with the others and began firing arrows, taking down several wolves. They were wolves of the united clan that terrorized all species. They were arrows tipped with silver; others had a potent poison; they were for giants and cyclopes or any other species…

The young woman shot, watching them fall like flies; she saw them howl and writhe; the silver burned them.

She used the crossbow to shoot some vampires. They fell engulfed in flames, and then the ashes flew in the cold wind.

A wolf charged at her, and the impact threw her, but she landed in the snow. The wolf lunged at her but was caught on her silver sword, a painful death for the large animal. Marcus was startled to see her under the beast and breathed when he saw her standing; she was fast, agile, and attacked everything she saw.

Maximus also attacked with his sword, leaping, and enemy heads fell to the ground; he had grace when fighting.

It was fascinating to watch him in action. When only the cyclops and the odd enemy remained, he asked her to stay behind him while he continued attacking.

The prince walked away, and she watched as the cyclops hit the dragons. This cyclops had a huge shield and with that, it resisted the fire.

The young woman ran among the warriors and pulled bombs from where she was carrying them, bombs that she was preparing with what she knew.

Gianna, reaching the feet of the enormous cyclops, observed its stride, and then she ran to where a huge tree stood. It was obvious that there were grenades and bombs created by humans, but they were useless against magical beings.

Gianna climbed without looking back as Marcus looked for her where he had left her and despaired, so the girl climbed high enough; the tree was a giant pine.

"Don't look down… Don't look down," she told herself and continued. She wasn't afraid of heights, but after what she had climbed, she would have to slide down.

The cyclops managed to grab a dragon by the tail and flung it away. It wasn't very big, but it was bigger than the one she saved.

The blonde was upset, that's why she loved those creatures so much, and this was now her kingdom, and she had to give back some of what she had received.

The pine tree was quite close to the cyclops, so she took out her crossbow and took two bombs; one would paralyze it, and the other would detonate.

She took a breath and placed her finger on the trigger, aiming directly at its eye. She released her finger, firing the charge and with it, the bombs.

The impact hit the target right in its eye; the blast wave sent her flying; the impact was cushioned by the snow.

Marcus ran out like crazy and went to her; she was lying in the snow with her arms outstretched and snowflakes on her face.

The man was worried, and the color drained from his face. Not even the snow was that white.

"Gianna, are you okay?" he said, and she blinked several times and just said,

"Did I kill it?…"

"What... Tell me if you're okay," he said, checking her over and brushing the snow off her.

"I am, Prince, but I managed to give it to him." The man looked at the remains of the beast and looked at her.

"Yes, but don't you ever disobey me again. What would I do if something happened to you?" he said, and they both looked at each other. The moment became awkward; she reacted.

"My parents and Dayana would kill me, now, up," she said and gave him her hand.

Everyone was celebrating, and then they came up to her.

"Well, that's it, everyone is going back," she said, seeing that they wanted to hug her.

"How did I do it, Prince Marcus?" He looked at her and nodded.

"Good job, warrior," he said, and they both walked back.

"Where's the dragon he hit, poor thing, I can heal him," she offered. He refused.

"He'll be fine, don't worry so much, you've done enough, and welcome to the Dragon Warriors; you're ready for any battle." She looked at him in surprise.

"Seriously, thank you, Your Majesty," she said, looking at him as if it was so important to her; she felt accepted and loved by some, everything she never had.

"Let's go; Nael will check on you." She agreed; when they arrived at the castle, everyone already knew: there were Maximus, Darius, Dayana, and the king and queen, but Marlon was not there.

"Congratulations, daughter, we are proud of you." The King spoke, and she almost cried. She had never felt that; those words were too big for her.

"Yes, daughter, we are happy for your achievements; come and give me a hug," said the queen; they were not stuck-up and snooty like other royalty; they were unique in their humility.

Each one congratulated her; even Marcus did.

"Gianna, beautiful, congratulations, you are all Wellington," said Dayana, as cheerful as ever, and they hugged.

"And Marlon?" she asked.

"He's finishing up fixing the warriors. He was in the battle," Maximus said.

"Oh, I didn't see him, but well, there were so many," she said, and went up to her room where Nael checked on her, but she was fine.

"See, Nael, I'm fine, I told you," she said. He sat down on the bed and said,

"I know, but I had to make sure, besides, stop doing crazy things, I know what happened to you," Nael said.

"You know… how do you know that…" she said nervously.

"Easy, Gianna, I know you were rejected on your wedding day; I know they made you fall in love first and then humiliated you, that's why your wolf is bad," Nael said.

"And how do you know that… You must think I'm pathetic, right?" He shook his head.

"Of course you're not pathetic, it wasn't your fault, I know you have an emptiness and a certain fear, I knew everything when I touched your head, I suffered the same as you, and believe me, it was painful." She nodded.

"Don't say anything; you can't; I don't want them to know this." Nael hugged her, and Marcus entered.

"Well, it's late, he already did, I know, and calm down," he said, and discreetly pulled Nael away.

"You should not be ashamed. Nael, you can leave." Nael nodded and left.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I am, thank you, Your Majesty," she said. He sighed heavily.

"Marcus, just call me Marcus," he said, and then,

"Okay, Marcus." The prince said goodbye and left the room. The next morning at breakfast, only the King and Queen, Dayana, and Darius were there; the others were not and had left early.

The young woman went to train, and they were not there either, and so it went for several weeks; she only saw them in the evenings.

One day Gianna arrived at the academy, and one of the masters was practicing with the dragons because the princes were not there. There were several of different colors and sizes. Gianna went to touch one. It was light brown with dark brown on the underside.

"Hello, beautiful, I would love to ride you…" she said excitedly and touched him. The dragon was docile with her and lowered his body for her to climb on. She already knew all the theory; she had even practiced in a simulator since the others were not going to give the trainings. Other masters did, she just needed to do it for real.

"Today you're going to ride this dragon—" she tried to climb up, but she couldn't because of the arrival of several dragons; the one that brought her approached and blew smoke through his nose, looking at the brown one that was with Gianna, and this one retreated.

"Hey… Don't be like that, do you remember me?" she asked, but he snorted. "Let me ride one of the dragons," she said, but the dragon refused and snorted again, blowing smoke from his nostrils.

"You're very grumpy; you're like Maximus and Marcus, both grumpy." The dragon turned his head, ignoring her.

"I want to ride, Master. Which one will it be?" she asked.

"To anyone who will let you." She began to approach, but none of the dragons wanted to, only the red one she saw throw the cyclops. She tried, but the black dragon lifted its chest in refusal, and this angered Gianna.

"Perfect, I'm leaving," she said and walked towards the lake, very upset.
