The next morning, Myra and Damien coincidentally met at the dining table for breakfast. The dining room, adorned with dark wood and elegant fixtures, echoed the masculine ambiance of the house.
Damien looked up from his coffee as Myra entered, offering a polite nod. “Good morning,” he said, his tone neutral.
“Good morning,” Myra replied softly, taking a seat opposite him.
After a few moments of silence, Damien cleared his throat. “I wanted to inform you that my parents and my grandfather will be visiting this afternoon".
Myra blinked, surprised by the news. “Oh, I see. Thank you for letting me know.” The idea of meeting Damien’s family, especially his strict grandfather, made her a bit nervous. But she nodded, knowing that it was her duty as his wife to welcome them properly.
“They’ll likely stay for a few days,” Damien added, his expression unreadable. “It’s important that we make a good impression, especially with my grandfather. He’s… particular.”
Myra nodded, feeling a mix of anxiety and determination. “I understand. I’ll be ready to greet them.”
Later in the afternoon, Myra took extra care with her appearance. She chose a refined, elegant dress that complemented her figure without being overly showy. Her hair was styled neatly, and she added a touch of makeup to enhance her features. As she stood in front of the mirror, she took a deep breath, steeling herself for the afternoon ahead.
When they arrived, Myra was at the entrance to welcome her in-laws. Damien’s parents, Sebastian and Jordyn Blackwood, entered first, followed by his grandfather, Lord Blackwood. His grandfather was an imposing figure, with sharp eyes and a demeanor that commanded respect. Despite his age, there was an undeniable strength in his presence.
“Welcome to our home,” Myra said with a warm smile, though her nerves were fluttering beneath the surface.
“Thank you, Myra,” Jordyn replied kindly, while Sebastian offered a polite nod.
Lord Blackwood’s gaze was intense as he looked at her, his expression unreadable. “It’s good to finally see you after the wedding,” he said, his voice deep and commanding.
Myra held his gaze, refusing to let her nerves show. “Thank you, Grandfather. I hope I can meet the family’s expectations.”
Dinner that evening was a formal affair. The dining room, with its dark wood paneling and heavy drapes, was lit by a grand chandelier, casting a warm glow over the table. Myra sat beside Damien, conscious of every movement and word. The conversation was polite, mostly centered around business and family matters.
As dessert was served, Lord Blackwood’s sharp eyes turned to Damien. “Damien, I trust you’re taking care of your duties as a husband,” he said, his tone making it clear that this was more than just a casual inquiry.
Damien nodded, his expression serious. “Of course, Grandfather.”
Lord Blackwood’s gaze flicked to Myra. “I’ve heard some concerning things from the staff. They say you and Damien have been sleeping in separate rooms.”
Myra’s heart skipped a beat, but she kept her expression composed. Damien, however, stiffened slightly at the accusation.
“There are no secrets in this house,” Lord Blackwood continued, his voice a low rumble. “I have my ways of knowing what goes on, and I will not tolerate any discord in this marriage.”
Myra blushed, her eyes lowering to her plate. The weight of Grandfather scrutiny was suffocating.
“It’s true,” Damien admitted, his tone measured. “We’ve been adjusting to married life, and we felt it was best to take things slowly.”
Grandfather eyes narrowed. “You will share a room from now on. This is not a matter up for discussion.”
Myra could feel the pressure mounting, and she knew there was no way to refuse. Damien glanced at her, a silent understanding passing between them. “We understand,” Damien said calmly.
Seizing the moment after Lord Blackwood's stern command, Damien’s mother chimed in with a hopeful smile, “And while you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to think about giving us some grandchildren. It’s about time, don’t you think?”
Damien nodded politely, while Myra felt her cheeks flush with warmth, remaining silent as her heart pounded in her chest.
After dinner, the decision was made. Myra and Damien would stay in Damien’s room, a space that reflected his personality—dark, masculine, and meticulously organized. The room was dominated by a large, imposing bed with heavy, dark sheets and matching furniture. It was a stark contrast to the lighter, more feminine decor of Myra’s room, but it was where they would be expected to sleep together from now on.
