Please Be Mine Again
Joon Woo and I have been friends since childhood. Despite our differing financial statuses, our parents are close friends. By 9th grade, we had confessed our feelings and became a couple. Joon Woo was possessive and cold, often restricting my interactions with others. In contrast, I wasn't as controlling; I was occasionally jealous and highly sensitive, but Joon Woo always found ways to make me happy. While he used to be distant, he had become incredibly kind to me, and I cherished that. On college graduation day, I was thrilled to celebrate with my boyfriend. However, he didn’t show up. I initially thought he was just running late, but after waiting and waiting, I decided to call him. The SIM card was changed. Panic set in as I rushed to Joon Woo’s house, terrified that he might be leaving me—no, not now. I feared his abusive parents had discovered he was gay. When I arrived at his house, I was sweating and nervous as I rang the doorbell. His mother answered with a forced smile. “We’ve been expecting you. Come in,” she said. I could sense there was something unsettling about her demeanor. I sat down, and the atmosphere grew tense as she and her husband pretended to be sympathetic. “Joon Woo has moved to another country and doesn’t wish to speak with you. He was upset by what you said about his father. He mentioned he was using you for your money and popularity,” his mother said coldly. “Look at how much effort he has put into staying away from you. You don’t deserve him.” Her words cut deep, and I started crying, feeling betrayed. “Don’t cry too much,” his father added, trying to console me with false empathy. “He didn’t deserve you.”
With a heavy heart, I thanked them for the message and left. For the next year, I struggled deeply with depression, finding it incredibly difficult to move on. But eventually, I did manage to heal and rebuild my life.
