Episode 11

Since he had rested enough, Beryl left his room to get some air. He was walking through the garden when he heard a roar, so he peeked out and saw Frederick transformed into a dragon at the top of the tower. He was a red dragon with large wings. The only time he saw him was when they caught him, but he didn't pay much attention to him then.

"Hey, why doesn't he take me out of the forest transformed like that?" he asked Angela, pointing to the dragon.

"The master does not go to the villages in that form, it would cause panic," Angela replied.

"Right, that's why they give him sacrifices," he laughed. "Anyway, I need to know when you can take me out of the forest. I have empires to conquer," he asserted.

[You can't get out of the forest and you want to conquer empires? You're quite the comedian.]

Beryl heard the voice resonate in his head and turned toward the dragon, who was looking in his direction.

"Can you read minds or do you have good hearing?" he asked without taking his eyes off the dragon.

[It's a mental connection, but yes, I can read your mind. Oh! You haven't bathed in two days, how filthy.] He scoffed.

"That's not true; I bathed before I left my room." He defended himself, "And stop reading my mind! Meow, meow, meow, meow," he replied indignantly.

Frederick could barely hold back his laughter. It really was just a mental connection, so even though he was speaking telepathically, Beryl was responding out loud. And because of that, Angela was looking at him strangely as he seemed to be talking to himself. But since he was looking at Frederick, she assumed that his master had a mental connection with the little omega.

[Little pink rat, come here,] he ordered.

Frederick rose from the tower, but landed in the garden near where Beryl was. As the boy approached, the dragon truly was enormous, and now that he wasn't scared, he could admire him better. Frederick crouched down, even lowering his head.

[Climb onto my back and hold on tight,] he instructed.

"Really? I've always wanted to ride a dragon." He didn't hesitate to climb on.

Although it was hard to climb, he managed it and held on tight to the scales protruding from the dragon's body. Everyone present was surprised because Frederick had allowed the omega to climb on his back.

The dragon flapped his wings and rose rapidly. Beryl was a little scared, closing his eyes because of the air that the dragon's wings caused. But when he felt them moving slowly, he opened his eyes, looking at the landscape. The forest was immense. Everything looked totally incredible. The castle seemed small and was surrounded by that green and colorful forest.

And although he could see a village in the distance, Frederick told him that that place was the kingdom where the omega lived. It was the closest one. It would take them a day to get there even though it didn't look like it, but other kingdoms or villages were much farther away. That's why it was difficult to go by carriage, and everyone lived in the castle. They worked in different areas to subsist without the need for the village, cultivating and raising livestock, which they needed for their survival. And when it was necessary to buy other things, the dragon had enough earnings for those needs, since in the kingdoms, he had his own businesses without anyone knowing that he was the dragon.

"Now I understand why you live the good life. And yet you gave me stale oats? What about the other prisoners? Why are they locked up?" That made him curious.

[Bandits who tried to loot the castle, at least the ones who made it, because they said their companions were devoured by the demons.]

"Ouch. Still, stale oats? You'd better let me off in a village while you can," he requested.

[No, I won't let you go, at least not now. There's something I need to know first.]

"What? That's against the law! You can't hold me against my will."

[I can and I will. I have a question. How did you learn the spell you used against the demons?]

"That? In a red book I found in a display case in the library. It had a lock, but I opened it," he replied calmly.

[What?! You dared to take out that book? That book belongs to my ancestors!]

"Nobody told me that. I was allowed to read everything, and that one caught my attention. I saw that spell there. Why? Is it a forbidden spell? Will I be exiled? Will they take my soul? Does this mean I have to be your wife now?" he inquired.

[Wife?! No! Nothing like that. But the spell you've learned, no human has ever been able to use it. You're the first and only. The spell is exclusive to our race.]

"Well, not so much, because I learned it," he replied proudly.

[That's the point. How could you do it? Unless you have dragon blood, there's no other explanation.]

"Are you saying I'm a lizard, too? I don't think so. I'm human, a strange one who can have babies in his belly, but at the end of the day, human," he replied.

[It's for the best that you stay, at least until we know about your family history. If dragon blood runs through your veins, it's my duty to protect you,] he replied.

"Really? So I won't have to work? Can I live as the lord and master of the castle?" he asked excitedly.

[Not quite like that. But yes, you don't need to work until we know about your lineage.]

"Okay, then I'll stay," he replied without thinking.

Although he didn't remember the story saying anything about Beryl's ancestors since he simply died. But now that he thought about it, there was something he had to do. Frederick had been good to him. He couldn't let the protagonists kill him, and to do that, he had to prevent the prince from finding the sword capable of piercing the dragon's skin. That would be his new mission, and he already knew where to find it.

"Hey, I need you to take me somewhere. This is for your own good and that of all your people," he requested.
