chapter5

Adebayo and Rose, their love steadfast and strong, soon found themselves navigating the next chapter of their lives as they settled into their respective careers in Ile Ife. Adebayo, his sharp mind and winning personality won him a position at one of the town's reputable banks. Meanwhile, Rose her passion for helping others led her to a nursing position at the teaching hospital. One day, Adebayo, immersed in the sea of paperwork that was his daily routine, was startled by the urgent panicked voice that blared from the speaker of his phone.

'' Mr Adebayo! Mr Adebayo! This is Nurse Ojomo from OAU Teaching Hospital where your wife works. Your wife is in labor! You need to come to the hospital immediately!'' Adebayo, his heart racing, dropped everything, his mind racing as he raced towards the hospital, his world turned upside down in an instant. As Adebayo raced towards the hospital, his mind whirling with a thousand thoughts, his heart felt like it might leap from his chest. What if Rose was in danger? What if the baby was in trouble? He had to get there, he had to be by her side. As he burst through the doors of the hospital, his feet carrying him towards the maternity ward, he saw Nurse Ojomo waiting for him, her expression grim. '' Mr Adebayo, please come with me. We have to get you to your wife as soon as possible.''

As Adebayo followed Nurse Ojomo down the hallway, the seconds felt like hours, his heart hammering in his chest. When they finally reached the delivery room, Nurse Ojomo opened the door, the sounds of Rose's labored breathing and the doctor's urgent commands filling the air. Adebayo rushed to Rose's side, taking her hand in his. She looked up at him, her eyes glistening with tears, the weight of the moment crashing over them. '' Adebayo,'' she whispered, her voice barely audible, '' I'm scared.''  Amid the chaos and fear, Adebayo could see the love and determination in Rose's eyes. He squeezed her hand, offering what little comfort he could, as the doctor prepared for the delivery.

The next few hours were a blur of pain and exhaustion, but finally, with a final push from Rose and the gentle urging of the doctor, a tiny cry pierced the air, signaling the arrival of their child. Adebayo's heart swelled with pride as he held his son in his arms, his small fingers wrapped around his own. In the days that followed, Adebayo found himself enraptured by the tiny life he held in his arms, his heart swelling with a love he never knew possible. Rose, her strength and beauty a beacon of hope, smiled up to him, her eyes heavily fatigued but overflowing with love.

All this while, Adebayo kept this part of his life a secret from his mom because he knew she would be disappointed in him. Adebayo, his heart heavy with the weight of his secret, knew that he could no longer keep his mother in the dark. One day, as he sat with his newborn son in his arms, he mustered the courage to make the call.

''Hello Mum,'' he said, his voice quivering with emotion, '' there's something I need to tell you.'' His mother, her voice gentle and loving urged him to continue.  '' Mum, I have a son,'' he finally blurted out, his breath catching in his throat. The silence on the other end of the line was deafening, but Adebayo knew that his mother was processing the news. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she spoke. '' Adebayo, my son, I had a feeling something like this might happen,'' she said, her voice filled with wisdom and understanding. '' You know that I will always love and support you, no matter what life brings your way.'' '' How is the mother of my grandchild doing?'' Adebayo's mother inquired, her maternal instincts already kicking in. '' Hope the both of you have started thinking of names for him?''

Adebayo shared the good news about Rose's health and the names they'd picked to his mother, his heart bursting with pride as he told her. '' I'll be on my to Ife tomorrow,'' his mother declared, her resolve strong. '' I can't wait to meet my grandson and the woman that stole my son's heart.'' As Adebayo held his son close to his chest, his mind racing with the news of his mother's impending arrival, he turned to Rose, his eyes filled with love and concern. '' Rose,'' he said, his voice gentle yet urgent, '' my mother is coming to visit tomorrow. She knows about us, about our baby, and I

wanted to let you know so you're not surprised.'' Rose, her heart racing with a mix of fear and excitement, took a deep breath, a sign of relive.

The following day, Adebayo's mother arrived at the hospital, her arms full of gifts for her grandson. She had meticulously planned her visit, ensuring that she had everything she needed to make a grand entrance. As she entered the hospital room where Adebayo was, her eyes looked on Rose, her smile warm and welcoming. ''Hello, my dear,'' she said, her voice gentle and kind. '' How are you?'' she said.  Adebayo, his heart swelling with pride and love, stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his mother, the joy of the moment overwhelming him. '' Mama, I'm so happy you're here. Your grandson is over here in the babies' court. His mother, her gaze filled with affection and acceptance, took the child's hand and brought it to her cheek. ''Thank you for bringing my grandchild into this world,'' she said with a soft smile on her face as she looked at Rose.

As the afternoon wore on, Adebayo's mother delighted in the company of her grandchild and the conversation with Rose, exchanging stories and traditions. But as the sun began to set, she knew she had to speak to her son about the next step. '' Adebayo,'' she said, her voice gentle but insistent, '' I need to speak with you.'' Adebayo, sensing the gravity of the moment, nodded and followed his mother out of the hospital room, illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun.

As they sat side by side on the waiting chairs in the hallway, Adebayo's mother turned to him, her eyes filled with wisdom and love. '' Adebayo, my son,'' you and Rose have created a beautiful life together. And now, with your son in this world, it's time to take the next step in your relationship. You must marry Rose.'' Adebayo, his heart aflutter with equal parts of excitement and apprehension, met his mother's gaze, his nod a silent acknowledgment of her words.
