The Lost Son's Cipher: The Unearthed Lead
In a dimly lit room, Agent Borra, a seasoned detective known for his meticulous attention to detail, sits across from Max Evans. Max, dressed casually in contrast to Borra's formal attire, lounges comfortably in a plush armchair, exuding an air of nonchalance.
Agent Borra
(observing the room) It's not usual for your kind to meddle in the case I'm pursuing.
Max
(leaning back in his chair with a playful glint in his eye) Well, don't generalize us. We are still humans with varying opinions. Besides, I am just a son. I owned and enjoyed something I did not even work hard for. Perhaps your views towards our kind may be more applicable to my parents.
Agent Borra
(noting the reinforced walls and soundproofing elements) From what I can see, your father doesn't know what you're up to right now.
Max
(nodding) As expected of an outstanding detective. You must have noticed that their car is not in the garage.
Agent Borra
(observing the room) A kind of habit, kid.
Max
(smirking) Yes, that's how it is.
Agent Borra
(looking around) Hmm, I see.
Max
What caught your eyes Mr. Borra?
Agent Borra
Thick walls, sealed doors, double-pane windows, and insulation foam between acoustic panels. Quite a room you have here, kid.
Agent Borra
It seems like even gossips can't pass through here. If you were to do something to me, no one would hear, and I'd be doomed. Not that you could do something to me, though.
Max
(chuckling) Oh, want to try?
Max immediately jumps at Agent Borra, spinning his body three times mid-air to strengthen his kick's impact. Agent Borra, with reflexes honed from years of training, blocks the kick with his crossed arms, feeling the impact but managing to deflect it.
Agent Borra
It seems I was wrong. You almost got me.
Max
(grinning) You blocked it. A detective indeed.
Agent Borra
(rubbing his arms) I'm not just sitting in my office, waiting idly for my belly to bloat up. Of course, I'm training hard, though not as hard as those of high status like you.
Max
Okay, enough of this already. Don't worry, I'm not going to do something to you. Just relax.
Agent Borra
You see, kid, I'm racking my brains with this goddamn case. And up until now, I have no lead and always end up in a dead end.
Max
Yeah, I know. And by the way, stop calling me kid. Max Evans is my name; call me Mr. Evans, it creates sense of respect.
Agent Borra
Okay, Mr. Evans. How did you know about my case?
Max
(mysterious smile) Connections. Don't try to pry, though; there are things that are better left untouched.
Agent Borra
Yeah, I know. So, Mr. Evans, how are you going to help me with my case?
Max
Now, don't be too impatient, Mr. Borra. I know you're eager to find a conclusion to your investigation. But before that, bother to answer my question.
Max
Tell me, Mr. Borra, is there anything free in this world?
Agent Borra
(pondering) I see. So how much do you want?
Max
Unfortunately, my parents have a lot of money so I don't need that. What I want is access.
Agent Borra
Access to what?
Agent Borra
(surprised) Hey! That's impossible. You know it's illegal.
Max
As what they say, if there's a will, there's a way. Well, hope you'd change your mind after you hear what I have here.
Max
Say, Mr. Borra, what if I found a space pen? But of course, this space pen is not the usual space pen you found at the crime scenes you investigated so far.
Agent Borra
A space pen? What about this space pen?
Max
(revealing a hint of a smile) This space pen is, of course, the same type as the space pens you have retrieved; however, it is not discovered in crime scenes but in a house with a person living in it.
Agent Borra
(excited) Are you serious? If that's true, that could be a very huge lead indeed! Say, who owns the house? Maybe he knows the owner of that pen or maybe he's the suspect himself.
Max
Quite impatient, are we? Only if you grant us access to crime scenes. Get two authorizations from your higher-ups. Convince them all you can; that's your problem.
Max reveals the space pen to sway Agent Borra's conviction.
Agent Borra
I'll get back to you ASAP.
Agent Borra hurriedly left the room happily. He feels like he just escaped a suffocating fire because of what he heard that may help him solve his case.
Will Agent Borra be able to secure authorization for Max and Martin?
