Bargain

Nuri's eyes widened in pain as the Nyxian's grip tightened, his neck throbbing and his wrist tingling from the bite marks. He groaned, his body tensing up in response to the sudden pressure.

The Nyxian just stared at him, his eyes unblinking and his face expressionless. But before anything else could happen, a guard appeared at the door, his iron baton at the ready. He hit the bars of the other cages, startling the beasts and demons inside, but carefully avoided the Nyxian's cage. The guard's eyes gleamed with a mixture of amusement and wariness as he gazed at Nuri and the Nyxian, taking in their precarious position.

"Well, well, well," the guard said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Looks like we've got a live one in here. Amazing, considering whatever gets thrown in here usually dies before they can even take a breath." He eyed Nuri's bloodstained clothes, his expression skeptical. "You're a lucky one, I'll give you that."

He knew better than to provoke the creature, remembering the fate of his colleague who had made the mistake of hitting the Nyxian's cage. The Nyxian had ripped the guard's arm off, along with his shoulder blade, before he could even cry out. The guard had fainted, and the Nyxian had just continued to stare at him with an unblinking gaze.

Nuri's eyes widened as he took in the guard's cautious approach. He followed the guard's gaze to his own bloodstained clothes, and his heart sank. He had no memory of what had happened, but the evidence was clear. He had been bitten, and he had been lucky to survive.

The guard's eyes flicked to the Nyxian, and he snorted. "Yeah, you're a real lucky one, you are. Getting bitten by that thing and still breathing. You must have a death wish or something." He shook his head, his expression a mix of disgust and fascination. "Well, you're going to need to come with me. The boss will want to have a word with you."

The guard called out, "Rico, we need you over here!" and a moment later, a burly man with a rifle entered the room. "Take care of this thing," the guard said, nodding towards the Nyxian.

Rico raised his rifle and shot the Nyxian in the head, the sound echoing through the room. The Nyxian collapsed immediately, his body crumpling to the ground. The cage door swung open, and the guard reached in, grabbing Nuri's arm and pulling him out roughly.

Nuri was in a shocked state, his eyes fixed on the Nyxian's lifeless body. He stumbled as the guard dragged him away, his mind reeling with what had just happened. The cage door clanged shut behind him, and he was pulled down a dark corridor, the guard's grip on his arm like a vice.

The guard finally stopped in front of a door, pushed it open, and shoved Nuri inside. Nuri stumbled, falling to his knees as the door slammed shut behind him. He looked up to see a figure looming over him, its features obscured by the shadows.

Nuri's ears were still ringing from the gunshot, and he didn't hear what the man said to him. He stumbled, his vision blurry, as the guard dragged him away from the cage. The guard's words were a distant murmur, unintelligible over the pounding in his ears.
