Nothing
The night was a canvas of shadows, painted with streaks of moonlight and the occasional glimmer of a distant star. Gotham City slept uneasily beneath its blanket of darkness, a city of secrets and whispers. High above its streets, on the rooftop of an old cathedral, two figures moved with the grace and stealth of predators.
Batman crouched at the edge, his cape billowing like the wings of a great bat. He scanned the city below, his mind a whirl of thoughts and plans. Crime never slept in Gotham, and tonight was no different. The Joker had been spotted near the docks, and he needed to be stopped before he could unleash whatever chaos he had planned.
A soft rustle behind him made Batman tense, but he didn’t turn. He knew who it was.
“Hello, Bruce,” came the sultry voice, smooth as silk and edged with mischief.
“Selina,” he replied without looking back. “What do you want?”
Catwoman stepped closer, her movements fluid and silent. Her black suit clung to her like a second skin, accentuating every curve. Her whip coiled at her side, a silent threat and a promise of danger. She stopped just behind him, close enough that he could feel the warmth of her presence.
“Can’t a girl visit an old friend?” she purred, her fingers trailing lightly along his cape. “Especially one who looks so… tense.”
Batman straightened and turned to face her, his eyes narrowing behind his mask. “This isn’t the time for games, Selina. The Joker—”
“Is always up to no good,” she finished for him, rolling her eyes. “Yes, I know. But I also know that you’re more than capable of handling him. I came to offer my… assistance.”
He studied her for a moment, searching for any hint of deception. Catwoman was many things, but predictable wasn’t one of them. “What’s in it for you?”
A slow, seductive smile spread across her lips. “Maybe I just like playing on the side of the angels every now and then. Or maybe…” She stepped closer, her breath warm against his cheek. “I have my own reasons.”
Batman’s jaw tightened. He knew better than to trust her completely, but he also knew that she had her own code, her own sense of honor. And right now, he needed all the help he could get.
“Fine,” he said finally. “But we do this my way.”
“Of course,” she agreed, her eyes gleaming with amusement. “Lead the way, Dark Knight.”
They moved through the city like shadows, silent and unseen. Batman’s mind was focused on the mission ahead, but he couldn’t shake the feeling of Catwoman’s presence beside him. She was a constant enigma, a puzzle he couldn’t quite solve. And despite everything, he couldn’t deny the spark of electricity that always seemed to flare between them.
At the docks, they found the Joker’s men loading crates onto a ship. Batman moved in first, taking down the thugs with swift, precise strikes. Catwoman followed, her movements a dance of elegance and lethality. Together, they made quick work of the henchmen, leaving only the Joker himself.
“Well, well, well,” the Joker cackled, clapping his hands. “Batman and Catwoman, working together. How delightful! And here I thought tonight was going to be boring.”
“Give it up, Joker,” Batman growled. “It’s over.”
“Over?” The Joker’s grin widened. “Oh, Bats, it’s never over. Not while I’m around.”
Before Batman could react, the Joker threw a smoke bomb, enveloping the area in thick, acrid fog. When it cleared, the Joker was gone, leaving only his maddening laughter echoing in the air.
Batman cursed under his breath, but Catwoman placed a hand on his arm. “Let him go, Bruce. There will always be another night, another battle. But right now…” She leaned in, her lips brushing his ear. “We have the city to ourselves.”
He looked at her, his expression softening for just a moment. “What are you up to, Selina?”
“Who, me?” She batted her eyelashes innocently. “Just a girl trying to make the most of a beautiful night.”
Batman shook his head, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “You’re impossible.”
“And you love it,” she replied with a wink.
As they disappeared into the night, two shadows intertwined, Gotham continued its restless slumber. And for a few stolen moments, the Dark Knight allowed himself to feel something other than the weight of his endless crusade. In the arms of the cat who walked the fine line between light and darkness, he found a fleeting sense of peace.
