Chapter 4

The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the sprawling grounds of the Grey mansion. Alexander stood on the balcony of his room, his hands resting on the cool iron railing as he gazed out into the night. The events of the evening replayed in his mind—the sudden alarm, the chaotic fight, the heavy silence that followed.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm of thoughts swirling within him. Who had sent those attackers? The question nagged at him, each possibility more troubling than the last.

Could it be a rival company trying to sabotage their merger? With the stakes so high, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone sought to undermine their position. The thought of corporate espionage sent a chill down his spine. They had made enemies, that much was certain.

Or perhaps it was a personal vendetta. Alexander’s gaze shifted to the distant horizon, where shadows danced under the moonlight. Had they crossed someone who wanted revenge? The Grey family had always operated in the cold, calculated world of business, but personal grudges often lay just beneath the surface.

His mind drifted to the assassins themselves—bulky and skilled, they had fought with precision. This wasn’t a random attack; it felt orchestrated. The thought made his blood run cold. Who would have the resources to plan something so audacious?

“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, clenching his fists. The weight of responsibility pressed heavily on his shoulders. As the eldest sibling, he felt an unyielding duty to protect his family. He couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched, that someone was always one step ahead.

Just then, the soft creak of the door interrupted his thoughts. Alicia stepped onto the balcony, her expression serious. “Still up, Alex?”

“Can’t sleep,” he replied, running a hand through his hair. “Just thinking about tonight.”

She joined him at the railing, her gaze sweeping over the estate. “Me too. It feels… unsettling. Like we’re not safe in our own home.”

“Exactly. I can’t help but wonder who’s behind this,” he said, frustration lacing his voice. “It feels personal. Too calculated.”

Alicia sighed, her brow furrowed. “We need to be vigilant. If someone wants to take us down, we can’t let them succeed.”

Alexander nodded, his determination hardening. “We’ll find out who it is. Tomorrow, we dig deeper. We’ll uncover the truth and make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

As they stood together on the balcony, the weight of the night settled over them, but so did an unspoken resolve. They were the Grey family—strong, united, and unyielding. Whatever threats lay ahead, they would face them together and crush the problem beneath their feet.

The first light of dawn broke through the curtains of the Grey mansion, casting a soft golden hue across the rooms. One by one, the siblings began to stir, their internal clocks honed by years of discipline and routine.

In Alexander's room, the alarm buzzed insistently, prompting him to rise. He quickly dressed in his gym gear, the weight of the previous night’s chaos still lingering in his mind. With purpose, he made his way down the hall to the gym area, where he knew his sisters would soon gather.

As he entered, he found Alicia already warming up, her focused expression a reflection of her determination. “Morning,” she greeted without looking up, her movements fluid and precise.

“Morning. Ready to train?” Alexander replied, moving toward the weights.

“Always. We need to keep our heads clear, especially with everything that happened,” she said, her tone serious.

Catherine joined them next, tying her hair back as she approached. “I hope you both realize we can’t just sweep last night under the rug. We need to strategize.”

“Agreed,” Alexander nodded, lifting a heavy dumbbell. “We’ll discuss it after our session. Right now, let’s get our heads in the game.”

Natalie and Laura arrived together, laughing and playfully shoving each other. Their laughter momentarily lightened the mood. “What’s up? You two look like you just woke up from a nightmare,” Laura teased.

“We kinda did,” Alicia shot back, her expression serious again. “We need to talk about last night.”

Danielle and Rachel followed closely, both already in their workout gear. “What’s the plan?” Rachel asked, grabbing a jump rope.

“First, we train. Then we’ll figure out our next steps,” Alexander replied, setting the tone for the morning.

Vivian, the youngest, bounced in energetically, ready to tackle the day. “I’m pumped! Let’s crush it!”

As the siblings split into pairs and began their workout, the gym filled with the sounds of weights clanking and breaths of exertion. The training was rigorous, but it also served as a moment to clear their minds, channeling the intensity of the previous night into their physical exertion.

After an hour of grueling exercise, they gathered in a circle, breathing heavily but feeling invigorated.

“Alright, we need to talk,” Alexander began, wiping the sweat from his brow. “Last night was just a warning. We can’t let our guard down.”

Alicia nodded in agreement. “We should start digging into who might have sent those assassins. We can’t afford to be caught off guard again.”

“I’ve been thinking about our recent dealings,” Catherine added. “There are a few companies that might benefit from destabilizing us. We need to review our records and see if anything stands out.”

“Let’s split up the work,” Natalie suggested. “Each of us can take a different angle—whoever has the most intel at the end of the day can present it.”

“Sounds good. But we need to stay united. Whatever happens, we face it together,” Laura emphasized.

Rachel looked thoughtful. “And we should enhance our security measures too. Last night showed us that we can’t be too careful.”

“Agreed,” Alexander said, his resolve strengthening. “Let’s finish up here and then divide the tasks. We’ll meet back in the evening to share what we find.”
