Toxic

Red flag

As the sweltering summer air turned the classroom into a sauna, a desperate cry pierced the air,

"Water! I need water... or a miracle... or a functioning air conditioner!"

The girl's words were laced with the urgency of a traveler lost in the desert, and her classmates couldn't help but be drawn in by her dramatic plea. With a flourish, she swept her hair off her forehead, revealing a face glistening with sweat. Her eyes flashed with urgency, her gaze fixed on some distant oasis - or maybe just the clock, willing the hands to move faster.

Mr. Richards, the teacher, seemed trapped in a heat-induced haze, his words blending with the air conditioner's hum - which was blowing hot air instead of cool. The class was a sea of glassy-eyed stares, their minds numb from the heat and the tedious lesson. But then, like a sudden storm, Mr. Richards' voice boomed, "The bomb exploded!" The class jerked awake, their attention snapped back to the front.

Alex's eyes darted away from the clock, fixing on anything but the teacher. His gaze landed on Luke, who sat wide-eyed and attentive, the only student still engaged. Alex's eyes narrowed, a mischievous glint sparking in their depths. With a sly smile, Alex launched a paper ball at Luke, striking him with a soft thud. Luke's head whipped around, his eyes locking onto Alex's grinning face. "Ew, gross!" he mouthed, wiping the saliva off his cheek.

The class watched in a mixture of horror and fascination as Alex continued to pelt Luke with paper balls, each one drenched in saliva. Luke's face turned red with anger, and finally, he'd had enough. He stood up, his voice echoing through the room, "Cut it out, Alex, you little ball of chaos!" But Alex was relentless, firing one last paper ball that landed with a wet splat in Luke's mouth.

The class erupted into a chorus of laughter and snickers, finally awakened from their heat-induced haze. Mr. Richards' face was a mask of shock, his mouth agape. Alex, still grinning, stood up, his hands raised in defeat. "Yeah, yeah, to the principal's office, I know the drill." He sauntered out of the room, leaving a trail of chaos in his wake.
