Chapter 5: Nostalgic Interference

"ELIJAH, ELIJAH" Elijah's mom screamed for him to come down to the living room where she was.

"Go out and buy some food, OK honey?" She patted his head, and with a bright smile, the 7 year old Elijah left to go buy what his mother asked him.

As he was walking on the sidewalk, he saw a girl crying while sitting against a light pole. "Hey...are you okay?" The little boy kneeled down to the girls' level and looked at her.

"...y-yes" She tried to hold back her tears and wiped the already existing ones. She sniffled, and shortly after, she looked Elijah in the eyes

"I-I'm fine, don't mind me a-and go back to what you were doing" Another teardrop was about to fall, but Elijah quickly wiped it away himself. "Just wait right here"

The girl started calming down after the young boys endeavors, but as Elijah left to go to the store, she started crying again. About 30 minutes later, he returned holding a lollipop and one big teddy bear.

"Here, don't cry, got it?" He gave them to her and smiled, leaving to go back to his home. The small crying girl reluctantly put the lollipop in her mouth and hugged the teddy bear tight.

"Marie...MARIE COME BACK THIS INSTANT YOU ANNOYING KID...IF YOU DON'T COME BACK I'LL BEAT YOU UP" A grown man screamed and the little girl got up and ran towards the voice. Meanwhile, Elijah returned home without food and got an earful from his mother and little sister.

For the next 6 months, this girl started appearing in the same spot every day when Elijah passed by and played with him until the night came, and they had to turn back home.

"Mom...have you seen a girl with short orange hair and a missing front tooth?" He returned home after not finding her and looked up to his mom asking in confusion.

"Oh little Marie? I heard she and her dad moved out. You were friends with that girl?" She said as she kept cooking. Little Elijah just stayed silent and went to his bedroom. That night, he stayed up crying till morning came.

"ELIJAH, ELIJAH...DODGE"

"MASTER DUCK, DUCK"

2 voices sounded screaming at Elijah, and a huge club was swung down on him. Last minute, he managed to jump back, and the air pressure from the club alone knocked him down.

"Master, concentrate. We're fighting right now" Cloud said while holding up a barrier, maintaining her human form. "Ugh, I'm sorry I spaced out"

"Don't worry Elijah, just focus and kill the next monster" Alvis said and jumped forward while slashing her huge sword. The giant troll was cut in half by Alvis attack.

"Now we have to collect their right ear to show as evidence to the guild...are you listening Elijah?" Alvis said and pulled out a small knife to cut the monsters ear.

"Yes, I'm sorry for before, but I was lost in thought... I wonder how this girl is doing" He murmured.

"Girl? What girl? Is she tall? Does she have a big chest? A big bottom? Is she better than me? Is she here? What's her name? What's her race? Can I kill her?" Alvis started freaking out after hearing Elijah mentioning a girl, so she got close and personal and started interrogating him.

"Calm down, Alvis. I was just thinking of the past..." He sighed after a wave of nostalgia washed through him.

"Master, let's go to the next monster. I'm hungry" Cloud was on top of the big troll and had started eating its corpse.

"Cloud, get down this instant and clean up. Didn't I tell you that you can't eat any more monsters? We'll go eat when we go eat" He said, disgusted as he saw her bloody kimono and her blood coated fangs, very intimidating for a cute little girl someone could say.

Soon after, another giant troll appeared between 2 trees. When it saw the party of adventurers, it quickly rushed to them. "All yours Elijah" Alvis said and stepped back behind Clouds barrier, which she was now clean after using her skill <> to replace her entire kimono.

"Oof, calm down Elijah, calm down, let's try my new skill" He started running towards the troll as it ran faster towards him. "<>"

With his bare fists, he struck the stomach of the big troll. Without time to do anything, the mosnter got shocked by the lightning effect on Elijah's fists. Not letting it move an inch, the boy turned the single fist into a full-on combo, hitting the monsters left cheek, then right cheek, then ribs, and finally, its knees electrocuting it with every single hit.

"Wow it's like the movements are automatic, I don't even need to fight on my own" He said surprised as the troll fell down defeated. Alvis went there to collect its ear.

"Good job master can I-"

"No"

"Eat"

"No"

"Just a bit"

"Still no" Elijah sighed and picked up Cloud to put her on his shoulders. "Now that you appear as a young girl, you should act like one too"

"...got it master" She sighed and placed her hands on top of Elijah's head as he put her on his shoulders.

"Let's end the hunt here for today, you did well. You're slowly getting the hang of it...although we can't give the troll ears since they are rank C monsters and you are a rank F adventurer" Alvis chuckled and started following Elijah and Cloud in her heavy armor.

"Well that's why we collected" He picked up a satchel from his waistband and started counting. "276 kobold ears right? There was a request for kobold extermination so we cleared the job" He smiled and happily made his way to the guild.

"Oh welcome welcome our dear Elijah...or should I say <>" Hughes said as he saw those 3 enter.

"Please don't call me that" He replied embarrassed.

"Why? It fits you well, you've been only accepting rookie missions for the past week and you've been completing them in a heartbeat"

"Well today was my" He put the satchel full of kobold ears on the reception table. "Last Rookie mission" He then smiled at the big man.

"Wow, I'm Impressed...I hope you didn't get lady Alvis to carry you...that'd mean you'll have to take a test with me" He leaned down to match Elijah's height and glared at him intimidatingly.

"No no, I vouch for him. Each and every ear in this bag was collected by Elijah alone" She took her helmet off and made every male in the guild building blush, Elijah was no exception.

"Ahem, I'll take your word. Now give me your card Elijah, you're officially an E rank Adventurer" He put his hand forward with a smile and waited for the boy to hand him his guild card.

Elijah complied and handed the guild leader the card, minutes later he came out of the back holding the card, it was now made out of silver instead of bronze.

"Thank you so much man, I appreciate it" Elijah made a fist and put his hand forward. Surprisingly Hughes fist bumped him and gave him the card back.

"I hope you have a good time ranking up dude" He handed him the reward of the mission, 24 silver coins and 13 bronze ones and then moved to the next Adventurer.

"Let's go back to the inn and eat something okay?" He said and both Cloud and Alvis smiled at him. After a quick walk they arrived back at the inn.

"Hello there beautiful" Anyone in the vicinity would think that this compliment was addressed to Alvis but in reality it was aimed for Elijah!?!?

"Hey there Brad, we're back"

"My precious costumers are here huh? Want to have the usual?" The man with the black hair behind the counter said to Elijah seductively.

"Yeah yeah, 1 full course meal for the 3 of us like always" Eijah replied with a slight smile.

"Coming right up gorgeous" He winked at the boy and went to the kitchen. "Elijah, I'm going to change into something more comfortable and come down to eat"

Alvis said and headed upstairs to their room. "And I'll go sit on the table and wait...am I a good girl master?" Cloud said and leaned her head forward waiting for affection.

Elijah gave in and started patting her between her fox ears. "You're so cute...anyways go there and I'll be with you in a bit" He told her and let her go.

"Hey Brad, I know you're still there" He said and slowly a head peeked behind the doorframe that connected the kitchen and the reception counter. "Whats up?"

"Nothing much just a question"

"Oh, go ahead then"

"Have you seen any otherworlder around lately?"

"Huh? Many, the one living on the room next to yours is an otherworlder" Brad said and threw a paper with a name in it.

"That's her name, now I'm going back to cooking. Bye beautiful" He went back to the kitchen and Elijah just put the paper in his pocket.

"I'm here Clou-" As he was about to sit next to Cloud, he looked up at the stairs only to see Alvis in a stunning dress with an even more stunning face walking down.

"...so beautiful"

"I agree master"

"...Forget what you heard" He said after realizing he talked out loud.

"Yes master" The little fox girl replied and smiled.

Alvis sat down with a smile and shortly after the food came so they started talking, they all checked their stats after the hunt but no one leveld up. The only new addition was Elijah's new skill after merging << Advanced Martial Arts>> and <>.

"Shall we go to bed?" Alvis said and stood up after they've all finished their meal, they all agreed and started walking upstairs. Out of curiosity, Elijah looked at the note that Brad gave him.

"Marie Abrami...must be a coincidence" It was the same name as his childhood friend. After they arrived outside of their room door everyone got in except him, he went next door and knocked.

After no one replied, he noticed that the door was slightly open so he walked in. To his surprise he found a girl with short orange hair wrapped in a towel, the top of her chest was showing and her eyes were wide with confusion.

"ELIJAH?!!"

"MARIE?!!"

The girl ran towards Elijah and hugged him but in the process the towel dropped on the floor, at the same time the door opened and the two girls thstt accompanied Elijah were standing outside, Alvis just stood there with a serial killer vibe smile on her face and Cloud with her usual poker face.
