Episode 10

THE NEXT DAY...

Derek

I wake up with my heart pounding, sweat dripping down my face, and only then do I realize I'm burning with fever. Visiting Siena last night was a terrible idea, but I needed to know if she was okay.

I get out of bed, a slight tremor running through my body. I need to be strong, I need to resist the pain of having her away from me. Suddenly, I see Dylan quickly entering my house.

"What’s up, Dylan? Don't you know how to knock anymore?”

He shrugs and tells me, alarmed:

"I told you that human would bring trouble. There are hunters crossing the black forest, Derek. They never dared to risk it, but now they are entering the forest."

The moment his words hit my ears, I end up dropping the bowl I'm holding in my hand.

"Siena..." I whisper, desperate. “Gather the pack, Dylan."

He looks at me, visibly worried, and says:

"I already did, but look at you, Derek. You need to stay here..."

"Don't you dare give me orders, Dylan. She is my mate."

Without waiting any longer, I leave the house already transforming into a wolf. I run swiftly through the village and soon reach the cave passage. I notice Dylan close behind, with the pack. I emerge into the black forest and run like never before, quickly dodging the trees. My mind is focused on Siena.

Soon I see Dylan running beside me, and as soon as we reach the cabin, we see several hunters. One of them points the gun at Siena and little Jasmine. The familiar feeling of when I saved them in the same situation hits me, but now it's different: she's my mate.

"Take them to the village, Dylan," I order. He nods, getting ready, and I, in a precise movement, run and jump on the man, tearing him apart with my fangs.

I see the pack attack the rest, and I watch Dylan get Siena and Jasmine out of there. I see one of the men running, but I go after him and jump on him, transforming into a human. I grab his throat with all my might and ask:

"Who sent you after the girl? Answer me!"

He is pale and trembles under my hands as he says:

"I... I don't know... I don't know... they just paid me to hunt down two girls who would be here."

A fierce rage surges through me and I say, in my firm and powerful voice:

"Listen carefully, I will let you live, but tell everyone who dares to come after her... The girl is mine. And whoever dares to touch them will know the terror of the beast, do you hear me? They are under my protection. Go, you good-for-nothing, tell everyone!"

I transform into a wolf and kick him in the face, leaving the mark of my claw. He stumbles away, running and falling into the middle of the forest. I howl ferociously and run back to catch up with Dylan, who is taking Siena and Jasmine.

As I run, my determination is simmering. I will tear apart anyone else who comes after her. No one will touch Siena again, no one. I arrive at the village, and I see that Dylan has already managed to bring them back safely.

Siena looks at me with a mixture of fear and relief, while little Jasmine clings to her, scared, but confident in the safety she now feels.
