Derek
As soon as I walk away from her and into the forest, I feel my heart pounding so hard it feels like it's going to burst out of my chest. With every step, the latent, throbbing pain in my chest increases until it becomes unbearable.
I lean against a tree, digging my nails into the rough bark, which soon begin to transform into claws. The transformation is quick and painful, and suddenly I find myself in my wolf form. My coat, black as night, shines in the sunlight, and I feel every muscle, every fiber of my being pulsating with an intensity I had never experienced before.
So this is what it feels like when our heart chooses our mate? I had heard others say it was surreal, but nothing prepared me for this. It's as if my heart were literally carved with her name.
The pain is so latent that I dig my claws deeper into the tree, leaving deep marks in the wood. I try to breathe, but each breath is accompanied by a sharp pain.
Looking up, I let out a howl that echoes through the forest, a howl so loud it sends birds flying away from where I am. My howl reverberates among the trees, it's a howl of pain, of love, of acceptance of the truth that is undeniable. Now, definitely, she has my heart. "Siena," her name looms large and bright in my mind.
The echoes of my howl finally dissipate, leaving the forest in a deep silence. I feel the weight of my new reality falling upon me. There's no escaping this. There's no denying it.
I then return to my human form and collapse on the ground, watching the sunlight filter through the canopy of the tall, dense trees. The leaves sway gently in the wind, creating dancing shadows that seem to play with my dazed mind.
Suddenly, I hear footsteps and see Dylan approaching in his human form. He sits down next to me on the ground, watching me with an expression of understanding and concern.
My chest rises and falls rapidly with the intensity of the experience I just had. The feeling of vulnerability is overwhelming, and the pain in my heart is a constant reminder of the new reality I must face.
Dylan breaks the silence, his voice soft yet firm:
"I warned you, didn't I? Your howl of pain was undeniable, Derek. Now she has your heart, the Alpha's heart, in her hands."
I turn my head to look at him, trying to find words that make sense.
"I knew it was intense, but... I wasn't prepared for this, Dylan. It's like everything inside me is turning inside out." My voice is hoarse, laden with emotion.
Dylan nods, his gaze fixed on me.
"That's how it is. When our heart chooses, there's no turning back. You can try to fight it, but it won't do any good. The bond is deep, unbreakable."
I close my eyes, trying to process his words. Siena's image appears in my mind, bringing a mixture of fear and hope.
"I didn't want it to be like this," I admit, feeling the truth weigh in my words. "But now that it's happened, I can't ignore it."
Dylan sighs deeply, running his hand through his hair and looking at me with a serious and understanding look.
"Well, yeah. And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is when your animalistic desire to mate with her arises, then you'll really be screwed, my friend."
My eyes widen, shock and worry washing over me. I sit up abruptly, staring at Dylan, my heart racing. The idea of animalistic desire growing inside me, uncontrollable and overwhelming, is undeniable.
"How... how do I deal with this, Dylan?" I ask, the urgency in my voice evident. "I already feel this connection so strong with her, and now you tell me it's going to get even more intense?"
Dylan nods, the seriousness of his expression not diminishing.
"Yes, Derek. You know that our lupine nature amplifies all our senses, but it's even more intense when it comes to our chosen mate."
I run my hand over my face, trying to calm my breathing and gather my thoughts. The responsibility of being Alpha has never weighed so heavily on me as it does now.
