Episode 4: In New York

Jennet searched all websites and found different kinds of jobs- babysitters, teachers, nurses, cleaners, shop assistants and many more. But none was Eleanor’s type.

Eleanor was beautiful with glamour and also intelligence. In other words, she was a beauty with brains.

At last she said, “There is a fashion show competition next week and the winner will be given 500 million dollars.

Eleanor, you can compete there, can’t you?”

Eleanor replied quite quickly, “My dear Jennet, I can surely compete but from where on earth will I get a

suitable dress?”

Jennet replied proudly, “No worries. I’ll get a dress for you.”

The next week, Eleanor saw all kinds of beautiful dresses she had never seen. There was a green dress and a maroon dress and a white dress with gold decorations. There were different kinds of bracelets and a pearl and diamond necklace and a Venetian gold cross set with precious stones. There was so much for the eye to feast on, but Eleanor was never greedy. She knew her limits.

"What's this, Jennet?" she asked, "I asked you to give me a pretty gown and that would do, but why so much?"

"My dear friend," replied Jennet, "How can you win the competition just like that? Come on, don't hesitate! Choose the ones you like!"

And she chose a high-necked floral dress with rosy colored high heeled shoes and a cute butterfly knot behind her head with a unique hairstyle and perfect makeup.

On the day of the competition, Jennet took Eleanor to the venue quite early. They left Anne at home as she suddenly had a stomach ache. That was a great mistake because they did not know that the spies sent by Mrs. Henderson had already known where Eleanor and Anne went.

Eleanor won the beauty contest and won the 500 million dollars she was supposed to win. But on reaching home, she did not find Anne anymore.

The spies of Mrs. Henderson had come to the hotel and ravaged the whole room. They did not find Eleanor and so only took Anne and went and could not convince Anne to tell them where Eleanor was.

Eleanor cried bitterly and Jennet tried to console her, but in vain. After a few days, Eleanor made up her mind to build a shop of her own with the money she had and sell goods. Soon a shop stood left of the crossing written ‘Your all-requirement shop’.

Eleanor worked and in shops for almost a year. But one day, a kind gentleman met her and asked her name. On hearing that her name was Eleanor and she came from London, the gentleman gave a very warm smile and said, “I am Emma’s grandpa. I live here for almost 20 years and whenever Emma comes here, she always speaks about you and how you suffer in London. Come, from today, you’ll study in the school I used to teach. You’re quite young to work in a shop.”

Eleanor almost cried out of joy. How she had wanted to go to school, study and have fun with friends and now her wish came true! Her thirst for knowledge was extreme and she was more eager to go to her new school when she came to know that Jennet also studied there.

Eleanor, Jennet and Emma were the best of friends. But they got separated- Emma and Eleanor in London while Jennet alone in New York. Now that Eleanor has come back to New York, the place where she was born, she’ll still never forget Emma, who was somewhat her life Savior.
