Talking with ex

Xia Feng took Yu Dong home, then turned around and went back to the hospital. Although his mother was sick and the hospital gave him time off, there were still some things he needed to deal with himself.

Back at the hospital, Xia Feng had just stopped the car when his phone suddenly rang.

He frowned when he saw that the unlisted number was from the United States. He thought about it for a moment, then connected the call.

“Xia Feng!” A gentle female voice came from the phone.

“You’re in the States?” Xia Feng stilled, then asked.

“Yeah, I’m here. The house I rented online is pretty good, and there’s even a swimming pool downstairs.” The girl happily talked to Xia Feng as if they still had a relationship.

“That’s good!”

“Xia Feng…are you still angry with me?” The girl’s voice turned timid, so much so that people couldn’t help but feel a little pity.

“No!”

“I know you’re mad at me Xia Feng, you know that I like you, I just don’t want to get married so early.” The girl paused, then continued: “Is auntie’s body still okay?”

“Very good!”

“That’s good! Aunt’s surgery is sure to succeed. Xia Feng, I know that I’m capricious, and you can be angry at me, but please promise me that you won’t be angry for too long.”

“An An…” Xia Feng closed his eyes as if he had just made a great decision, then said, “Do you remember what I said to you before?”

“Which sentence?”

“The day I proposed to you…” Xia Feng reminded her.

“Xia Feng…you…you’re scaring me…” An An became a little panicky.

“I know you remember.” Xia Feng then said clearly, “An An we broke up!”

“Xia Feng, Xia Feng, I knew you were still angry!”

“I’m serious!”

“How can you do this, just because I didn’t agree to marry you right away you’re going to break up with me? Aren’t we supposed to negotiate with each other with something like this? You just can’t unilaterally decide this, not to mention you knew I planned to study in the States, the tickets were already bought. Xia Feng, you can’t do this to me…”

“An An, I…” Xia Feng was about to say that he was married.

But An An was already crying over him and said: “You’re just angry Xia Feng. Let’s calm down first, then we’ll talk again.”

“Xia Feng looked blankly at the ended call, and finally showed a bitter smile.

Anyway, she’s currently abroad – maybe she’ll cooled down when she returns!

I can’t blame An An, she already had plans to study after all. Xia Feng kinda just gave her an ultimatum out of the blue. But I guess this was a situation where she had to choose between her career and love. She wants to keep both, but it wasn’t possible. Or maybe she didn’t love Xia Feng enough to delay her study plans a little and marry him?

And Xia Feng loved his mom way more than he loved An An. Heck, did he even love An An?

When Yu Dong returned home, she felt a little thirsty. She went into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and when she saw that it was full of water bottles, she couldn’t help but exclaim: “This is truly a a doctor’s refrigerator. There’s not even one flavored drink.”

Yu Dong took a bottle and drank a few mouthfuls. She habitually grabbed her mobile phone intending to order some takeaway, only to see its button keyboard. She then remembered that smart phones wouldn’t be common until a few years later.

If Yu Dong didn’t have the phone in her hands, she definitely wouldn’t have thought that it was her phone that was ringing.

The electric display showed the name Xiang Xiaoyue. It her university roommate, who she had a pretty close relationship with. But then Xiaoyue got married, and everyday would be nothing but mass amounts of showy love which Yu Dong, a single dog, would consciously avoid lest incurring a critical hit. This caused them to slowly drift apart, and it had been 3 or 4 years since Yu Dong last saw her.

“Hey,” Yu Dong answered the phone.

“Dong Dong!” A shrill female voice frightened her so much she almost threw her phone. “Help, help!”

“What’s wrong?”

Xiang Xiaoyue was a typical city girl with an upper class background and was an only child. She has a high EQ and if speaking bluntly, had her road in life paved by other people. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but one of the most admirable things about her in Yu Dong’s mind was that in university, as long as she asked, whether it was a current boyfriend or ex-boyfriend, as long as they had the ability, they would rush to help her.

“Are you in Shanghai?”

“Yeah.” Yu Dong answered.

“Great, I received an offer to do the dubbing of an idol drama a while ago. But the original dubbing actress I hired suddenly quit. Come and help me.” Xiaoyue said.
