Alex's accident.

One brisk winter evening, Alex attended a high-profile technology summit in a bustling metropolis. The venue was filled with influential figures from the industry, each eager to showcase their latest innovations and secure strategic alliances. As Alex navigated through the crowd, he found himself engaged in a heated discussion with Dr. Martin Crane, a prominent academic aligned with one of his fiercest business rivals.

The debate grew intense, with both men passionately defending their viewpoints. The stress of the conversation, combined with the exhaustion of constant travel and work, began to take its toll on Alex. He felt a sudden wave of dizziness, his vision blurring at the edges. Before he could steady himself, his world went dark, and he collapsed to the floor.

Pandemonium ensued. People rushed to his side, but amidst the chaos, it was Claire who emerged from the crowd. She had arrived at the summit only moments earlier and witnessed the commotion. Pushing through the throng, she reached Alex and immediately took charge.

"Someone called an ambulance!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the noise. Kneeling beside Alex, she checked his pulse and monitored his breathing. Her heart pounded with fear, but she maintained a calm exterior, knowing she had to be strong for her friend.

Minutes later, the paramedics arrived, and Alex was swiftly transported to the nearest hospital. Claire followed closely, her mind racing with worry. Upon arrival, she ensured that Alex received immediate medical attention. As he was whisked away for examination, Claire took out her phone and called his family.

"Mrs. Turner? This is Claire Bennett, a friend of Alex's. I'm at the hospital with him. He collapsed at the summit, but he's receiving care now. You should come as soon as you can."

Alex's family, deeply concerned, thanked Claire and promised to be there right away. Claire waited in the sterile, brightly lit waiting room, her thoughts a whirlwind of anxiety and hope. Hours seemed to stretch into eternity until, finally, a doctor approached her.

"Are you here for Mr. Turner?" the doctor asked.

Claire stood up, her heart in her throat. "Yes, I am. How is he?"

"He's stable now," the doctor reassured her. "It appears to have been a combination of stress and exhaustion. We've given him fluids and are keeping him for observation overnight."

Relief washed over Claire as she thanked the doctor. Shortly after Alex's family arrived, their faces etched with worry. Claire briefed them on what had happened and assured them that Alex was in good hands.

When Alex woke up, the first thing he saw was the concerned faces of his family and Claire, who had refused to leave his side. His mother's eyes were filled with tears, and his father's hand rested reassuringly on his shoulder.

"Hey there," Claire said softly, her voice a soothing balm to his frazzled nerves. "You gave us quite a scare."

Alex managed a weak smile. "I guess I did. Thank you, Claire. I don't know what I would have done without you."

"Don't mention it," she replied, squeezing his hand gently. "That's what friends are for."

In the days that followed, Alex recovered under the watchful eyes of his family and Claire. The experience brought a new depth to their friendship, solidifying their bond even further. They realized that despite their professional rivalry and the high-stakes world they inhabited, their connection was a source of strength and comfort.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd enjoy this genre of book but the author made me a believer.
