DOCTOR
No, not that I've heard of yet.
Jungkook just nodded at his words, left his payment of two gold coins, and turned away. The doctor looked at the gold coins he left and sighed. His words were puzzling as he spoke to him (jk) retreating form.
DOCTOR
*sigh* Perhaps we can buy you more time, so do come back if you have a change of heart.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
...........
Jungkook didn't pay too much attention to his words and left the small clinic. The conversation with the doctor had struck him like a bolt out of the blue. He had only come to this doctor, who didn't work for the Jeon estate, because he had recently felt his health worsening at an alarming pace.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Well, the reason why I couldn't see the estate doctor was that......
JEON JUNG-KOOK
It wasn't because I was afraid that my family would find out and worry about me. I just didn't trust the estate doctor.
Although the count's doctor was young, he was competent and professional. However, from what he has seen of him, he did not hesitate to lie when necessary now and again. Also, he cherished Abelia like she was his own little sister.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Maybe this is a stretch, but if he thinks that my sickness will shock Abelia.....
Jungkook thought he would lie about his (jk) condition if he considered that the news would upset his little sister....
He rubbed his chest and sat by the window, feeling a little better after vomiting. Her skin looked even paler under the sun. A bird, flying high in the sky, caught his eyes. It flew over to a tree and sat down on a branch.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
I wish I had wings too.
He wanted to fly as he pleased before his last day came. He had things he wanted to do before he died. Seething desire coursed through him, making him shiver.
In reality, it wasn't that Jungkook was unloved. His parents always tried to be fair. But one child was sick and another one was young and needy. There were times when it was hard for their parents to be fair and Jungkook was stuck in the middle of everything.
One of the Jeon's twins was a sickly child. The other twin was a wild thing that came home injured often. On top of that, Jungkook wasn't even Count Jeon's heir-that was his older brother-so when he behaved well, the attention he got was more short- lived than a grain of sand hitting the ground. After everything. Jungkook started to think of it as....
"ATTENTION WORTH NOT HAVING"
The world seemed to revolve around the Jeon's they often found fortune along their path, while Jungkook only found hurdles in his. He loved the twins but he was jealous of them-they were born from the same mother into the same household but had drastically different lives. His jealously and hatred made him feel ugly, and that they were his siblings made it even harder for him.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
This is the end of me.
He had sort of seen this coming when he'd started to cough up blood.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Should I just take off?
Jungkook had to force himself to smile whenever he was at home. He had to be the mature and calm one who takes care of himself, the brother with a heart of gold who would do anything for anyone. Now that his days were numbered, he didn't want to keep up those pretenses.
He couldn't even imagine how his family would react. If he found out his family considered him a hassle, he would never be able to recover from the pain. Jungkook did not feel one bit like telling his family about it.
He didn't even have the strength to scream that he wanted to live. Nobody came to his room and it had been a long time since anyone had. He had said he could take care of himself, so nobody thought to look after him.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
If I leave, where can I go? What should I do...?
Jungkook pondered as he leaned his head onto the window, sitting on the windowsill.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
I have one year at most.
It will go by quickly, unlike the twenty years he'd lived so far. Stuck in the middle between his older brother who was always good at everything and the lovely twins who were always doted on, Jungkook had never received recognition. He needed someone to see him for who he was. It didn't matter if that person liked or disliked him. He needed someone who would see him as a person.
DUKE KIM TAE-HYUNG
Is the omega a spineless jellyfish? If you don't have the will, you should not have come here at all. This engagement wouldn't have happened if you had declined the offer.
At their engagement day tae said this to him.
Suddenly, he remembered his first encounter with his fiancé, a man that looked like God had spent too much time making him look perfect. His face was too beautiful for words and he spoke cutting words to him (jk)from beneath his furrowed brow.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Come to think of it, he didn't decline the engagement offer either.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
At the time, I couldn't utter a single word in response to his repeated attacks, but now that I thought back about it, hadn't I been right?
The window reflected his big dou blue eyes. Even to himself, his skin looked paler than before-the anemia was getting worse. He was lucky that he didn't need to move too much in his daily life, or somebody would have discovered his illness.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Maybe I should travel to the north.
All on his own, with no one's help. His hard-pressed lips opened up.
JEON JUNG-KOOK
Time to go.
He didn't put too much thought or time into the matter. He decided to go to the north alone.
