Emergency

Days passed by, and I became more used to the hospital and work. The confidence I once had as a medical student but disappeared during my post college life returned.

One fine morning, I was going for my rounds.

' Alexia, Come with me there is an emergency case. ' One of my senior doctors, Rachel called me. I hurried behind her. She was taking unusually wide steps and rushing. Georgia and a few others joined us soon.

I realized there was at least one from each specialty. There were, 2 doctors from gastroenterology including Georgia and general practitioners, emergency medicine people, cardiothoracic surgeons and general surgeons. I was the only one from cardiology.

There must be some influential people in the emergency ward. In the past one month it's the first time I have seen such a preferential treatment. Still the hospital dynamics were well maintained.

When we reached the emergency ward it was filled with doctors and other people all dressed in black.

Making my way through, I tried to see who was lying in the bed. My body was petrified.

I couldn't even blink.

The lamppost I saw at the alley was lying unconscious in the bed. Usually I am bad at recognizing people but his height and sharp facial features, there's no way I could forget that.

Two people were applying pressure over his stomach. There was blood stained clothes and cotton nearby.

A stab wound! I have never once seen them personally.

' Maria, how is he? '

' His vitals are stable, airway and breathing normal' The nurse replied.

Surgeons are ready we can start it soon.

' 28-year-old male, stab wound, the object was removed but his vessels are probably injured. Check his essentials and whether the surgery is safe to proceed right now.' Racheal said to the others.

I checked the heart monitor and other necessities.

' Safe to go ' One of the senior anesthetic said.

' Safe' I said after discussing with a cardio surgeon.

Within minutes his condition was checked by various doctors, and he was transferred to the operation theater.

I left soon after but was asked to be on call anytime if a situation arises.

In the afternoon when I reached the canteen, Georgia and Eva were discussing something. I joined them.

' I was terrified for sure. I was really nervous. It was the first time I didn't know what to do.' Eva said still in shock.

She was in emergency medicine, it must be about the case in the morning.

' Was it a hard case' I asked.

' It was more like a golden case if anything went wrong from my side, I can say bye bye to my career.' Eva replied still worried.

' Who is he? ' I really wanted to know who I have provoked. If she is this much afraid after attending him, then what will become of me who had a fight with him.

' You don't know him since you are new. But at least you must have run into him a few times. He frequently visits the hospital' Georgia said.

' He is the youngest of the Rensselaer family, Raiden Rensselaer. ' Eva added her voice shivering.

Her voice echoing in my head.

' Really?' I asked hoping that they might be joking. But their faces were unnaturally grave.
