Episode 19

In just ten minutes, I arrived home after paying the taxi and walking to Carmen's house to pick up Kaique. As I walked, Khalil wouldn't leave my thoughts. His image was clearly formed in my mind, as handsome as ever, wearing that impeccable white designer suit. It was impossible not to remember his striking and charming appearance.

Even remembering the moments of pleasure Khalil gave me, I tried to push the thoughts away. I scolded myself for thinking about him like that. I had to forget about him just like he forgot about me and never looked for me.

I refused to believe that I had experienced any kind of relationship with him. Or even having had sex on top of a table, on a comfortable bed. My body shuddered to think about him again.

My rebellious mind brought back the memories. I clenched my teeth and for the third time, tried to forget what had happened.

I entered Carmen's chalet. She lived alone, a mature woman, a widow and a former principal. Carmen was making tea when I walked into the kitchen.

"Girl, you got here so early! What happened?"

Kaique abandoned his huge farmer's truck and came over to me. I lifted him off the floor as he showered my face with clumsy kisses. I smelled his childish and familiar scent, I hugged him, showering him with kisses too, while he laughed.

"I was so excited to see you, my boy." - I put him down, watching him go back to his playing.

Carmen looked at me with a smile.

"Excuse me, Carmen, I just needed a quiet place to think for a bit, and forget what just happened."

She offered me a cup of tea and led me to the small living room, where we sat in comfortable armchairs. The atmosphere was impregnated with the soft aroma of tea and the comforting warmth of the fireplace, and the slight sound of Kaique playing with the truck, imitating a horn with his mouth.

"If you need to talk, I'm here to listen, dear. There's always a place for you here," Carmen said, kindness in her mature voice.

"I know there is, you're a sweetheart and you've helped me so much." - I squeezed her hand in thanks. "He was there, Carmen. The man everyone was talking about this week, who was going to give a talk at school, was none other than Al-Hassan Khalil." - I stood up, just mentioning his name, my body reacted in a way it shouldn't.

Carmen looked at me with concern as I struggled to control my emotions. Al-Hassan Khalil was a name I was trying to forget, but his memory still had the power to disturb me deeply.

"Are you okay, dear?" she asked, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves before answering:

"Yes, I'm fine. I just wasn't expecting to find him here. I know I need to get over this, but it's hard."

Carmen nodded understandingly, her sympathetic expression reflecting the empathy she always showed.

"I don't want to scare you, but have you thought about what if he finds out that Kaique is his son?" she said. - We can't hide things forever, dear, I always tell you that.

"I don't even want to think about that, Carmen. And if he finds out, he can't blame me. After all, he's the one who abandoned me. He didn't come looking for me." - I bit my lip slightly, feeling the anxiety building.

"Well, let's forget about that for a bit. I'll make dinner for us, would you like to stay and have dinner here?" Carmen proposed.

"Thank you, Carmen, but let's leave it for next time. I have so many papers to grade right now."

Carmen nodded, we said our goodbyes and I went home.

When we got home, Kaique ran to the backyard in search of his inseparable pet, a rabbit we had found lost. He found him in his pen, jumping for joy at the sight of his owner.

"Floquinho" - Kaique said, gently stroking the rabbit with his little hands.

Meanwhile, I watched my son with a loving smile, secretly grateful to have such a cute companion in difficult times like this.

While Kaique played in the backyard for a bit, I immersed myself in my work, but always kept my eyes on him. When he finally came into the house, I prepared a bottle of porridge for him. While the porridge was cooling, I gave him a bath, carefully washing his hair and playing with him in the water. After his bath, Kaique drank his bottle and, comforted by the food and the warmth of my arms, he fell fast asleep.

I got up and placed him on the comfortable crib I had bought. I went back to my work. A few minutes later, I heard the sound of a car engine. Cars rarely pass by on that street, which made me curious. I went to the door, lowered the blinds and noticed that there was a flashy car in front of my house. Yes, it was the same car that was parked in front of the school earlier. And that could only mean one thing: Al-Hassan Khalil.

He was at my house. How did he find my address? I have no idea. Is there anything a sheikh as influential as that can't find out? Finding an address is the least of Khalil's problems, and I knew it.

I immediately ran to the kitchen and hid all of Kaique's toys, as well as the drawings he made and hung on the walls and on the refrigerator door.

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm as I thought of a way to deal with the situation. I couldn't allow Khalil to interfere in our lives, especially after so much effort to build a peaceful life for Kaique and me.

Waiting apprehensively for him to knock on the door, he finally did. I took a while to answer, I adjusted myself and took hold of the doorknob, turning it to open. His typically masculine and familiar scent not only invaded my nostrils, but also permeated the room.

"Surprise, my dear" he said so intimately.

With my heart racing, trying to control the mix of emotions that washed over me in Al-Hassan Khalil's presence. I stood my ground, struggling to hide any sign of weakness before him.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, despite the anxiety that was consuming me inside.

Khalil smiled, his amber eyes bright with an intensity that made me uncomfortable.

"I came to see you, of course. After all, I couldn't resist the idea of seeing you again after so long." He smiled, revealing his beautiful straight teeth and perfect dimples. "After all, you ran out of school like you'd seen a ghost."

I swallowed, feeling vulnerable in the face of his imposing presence. I knew I had to be on my guard, protecting not only myself, but Kaique, who was sleeping peacefully in the next room.
