How beautiful he looks while he sleeps peacefully. The sight of his big, stiff body sent shivers down my spine. I had never paid attention to handsome men, because I know they are a handful and think too highly of themselves. But at that moment, Khalil was an exception.
I discreetly ran my hand over my belly, thinking that a baby would grow there, a child of that man I was afraid of losing, who made me give up my trip to be by his side. I don't know how it will be, I don't know how to tell him the truth.
I grabbed my bag and quietly walked out so as not to wake him. I walked outside and saw one of his security guards outside. I asked him to take me to Khalil's mansion to get some things.
I got in the car and we drove towards the mansion. Or at least I thought we were going there, until the security guard turned off the road and onto another road.
"Where are we going?" I asked, with a hint of suspicion in my voice.
"Miss, I was ordered to take you to a safe place before we go to the mansion. There are some security issues that need to be resolved." He replied without taking his eyes off the road.
My heart started beating faster. Something was wrong.
"Security issues? What's going on?"
"Just following orders, miss. Please be quiet," he said, keeping his tone calm but firm. "Behave yourself, and we won't hurt you."
I tried to remain calm, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong. I looked out the window, trying to recognize the way, but the landscape became more and more unfamiliar.
"Please, just tell me where we are going," I insisted, feeling my anxiety grow as I ran my hands over my belly.
He hesitated for a moment, then replied:
"Ah, someone who wants to see her, no more questions," he said, irritated.
I had no choice but to wait and see what happened next, hoping that Khalil was okay and that I could get back to him soon. But something inside me told me otherwise.
As soon as we reached a road, the car stopped. My eyes met Said's, and I knew he would be touching on the same subject. I got out of the car, it drove away, leaving me alone in the company of that man.
"What do you want?" I asked, trying to keep my composure.
"You're still after Mr. Khalil. You were at the airport, why didn't you leave?" he said, irritated.
"Because Khalil needed me, and I will stay by his side, whether you like it or not," I said firmly.
"Great, then take the consequences, because you are getting in the way of my business. Drugs," he shouted, pulling me by the arm hard.
While arguing with Said, I suddenly felt nauseous, my stomach churning intensely. I tried to ignore it, but the nausea increased rapidly, and I ended up vomiting right there, in front of Said's surprised gaze.
He noticed my sudden discomfort and became suspicious. He stared at me with a questioning expression.
"What's going on with you?" he asked, an eyebrow raised. "Are you feeling okay?"
I swallowed hard, knowing I couldn't reveal the truth about the pregnancy at that tense moment. Instead, I decided to run away from the situation.
"I… I just need some fresh air," I muttered, before running away, ignoring Said's protests.
"Wait, are you pregnant? Come back here…" he came after me, I hurried my feet to get out of there. "If Mr. Khalil finds out you're pregnant, he's going to make you have an abortion, he doesn't want to get married, let alone have children, too bad for you," he laughed as he spoke.
I ran across the street, still feeling dizzy from the sudden nausea. But before I could reach the opposite sidewalk, a car came speeding towards me, hitting me head-on.
The impact threw me to the ground, leaving me immobile and seriously injured. But despite the shock, I remembered to instinctively protect my belly, fearing for the baby I was carrying.
Thanks to the quick intervention of pedestrians and the rapid arrival of emergency services, I was rushed to the hospital. After a series of tests and intensive care still inside the ambulance, they confirmed the miracle: despite my injuries, the baby was safe and sound, unharmed, and I ended up passing out after that good news.
After the accident, my mind plunged into darkness. I couldn't tell dream from reality, and time seemed like a blur. I was informed that I was unconscious for a few months while doctors did everything they could to ensure the baby's safety.
I looked around, trying to understand where I was, and soon realized I was alone. Memories of the accident and the lost months flooded my mind as I struggled to understand exactly what had happened.
My hand instinctively went to my belly, now considerably larger than before. A wave of concern washed over me and I wondered if the baby was okay. I called for a nurse, my voice weak and shaky, and was soon met by a medical team who explained the situation to me.
While the doctors were taking care of me, I couldn't help but ask about Khalil. I knew he must have been by my side all this time, offering support and comfort. But, to my surprise and dismay, the doctors informed me that he had never shown up to visit. No one showed up.
A feeling of helplessness hit me with full force. How could someone who supposedly said they wanted me so much abandon me at such a crucial time? My heart filled with sadness and disappointment as I tried to process the reality that I was alone.
Despite the pain and uncertainty, a fierce determination began to grow within me. I wouldn't let Khalil's absence bring me down. I would do everything in my power to protect myself and our baby, even if it meant facing the future without him by my side.
While I was safe in the hospital, waiting for the moment to finally give birth, my heart was full of anticipation and anxiety. Every day that passed was one step closer to meeting my son, and the thought of holding him in my arms filled me with joy.
The nurse, kind and attentive, shared with me all the information about the baby I was carrying. She showed me the ultrasounds done over the days I was unconscious, revealing a healthy boy growing inside of me.
Looking at the images of my little miracle, I felt a wave of unconditional love wash over me. Despite all the adversity we faced, my baby was strong and healthy, and it filled me with hope.
"Kaique… Your name will be Kaique…" I whispered, stroking my belly, in response I received a light kick, making me shed a few tears.
