Sahana's father used maintain all the household and budget while her mother became a breadwinner. His passing away made the house in disorder. her mother struggled to keep everything in order as before, but it was too overwhelming for her. At the same time Her sister Devika got marriage proposals and all the proposals were good considering their situation.

In India men has to come to women's house with their parents and relatives to see women to marry. But when they came everyone wanted Sahana not her sister Devika. Because she was too beautiful compared to her sister Devika. It made huge fight between them but Sahana didn't wanted to marry anyone. This reason made Devika even more angry at Sahana. While Devika struggling to get married, Sahana didn't want to marry but got so many offers instead of her.

At same time Sahana's cousin Rekha was looking far housemaid to go with her New York. Because it was too expensive to hire a maid in New York even if they hired one they would work on hour basis, and it's not sitting right with her. So she wanted someone from her town to go with her as full time housemaid, and they can even give her low salary. Rekha had a baby few months ago and her mother-in-law was sick in bed who is getting treatment in home. It too much work for her maids would charge separate for everything it was too much hustle.

Sahana got the wind of it and offered to go with Rekha. At first Rekha was hesitant but eventually agreed with her. Sahana thought if she was away from the house her sister can get married without any hindrance like her. And she can even get a job and earn, and maybe she could find a solution to her forgetfulness, with all things in mind she volunteered to go.

In her home when she told her mother about the matter. At first her mother refused, but eventually she agreed because of her sister Devika is already at the marriage age. It can't be delayed and if Sahana gone their she would have to worry less about everything. It was not a big deal because Sahana would take care of herself, so there is no need to concern about her. Because it was Rekha that Sahana would be working for, so it will be fine. In the end she agreed to this matter.

Sahana didn't know anything about New York, and she can't speak English well but after living there for a year, so she could understand it if they speak slowly. Every month Rekha would send money to Sahana's mother account and her sister is already got married, but Sahana is forgetting about everything. After going there her condition only got worse she already forgets about her father and she can't remember her mother face, and now she feels like all her emotions are dried up. It felt like she is the only tree in a barren land and that tree also drying up.
