Can I Hold Your Hands?
Lily came out of the court with a file, landing on the road and feeling the sun rays as freedom. Having that divorce was the best decision for her. She closed her eyes and sat inside the car, shutting the door with a bang behind her.
“That's my girl.” said the middle aged handsome man in the driver sit and beside him was sitting a little kid with a sunglass larger than she needs.
“Ain't she amazing,Taby?” again he said to the kid with a bright smile. Taby gave him a nod and looked around to her mom. Lily gave her a chips packet, knowing completely what that puppy eyes turned around for. She Chuckled and looked at the guy who was grinning at her. As soon as she caught his eyes, her smile fades and her eyes found it's way to the window, looking at the busy road of noon. She doesn't know what she was feeling. perhaps it's like that feeling she felt twenty years ago while running with Aurgus in the heavy rain, beside the local lake. Perhaps, it's the feeling she felt while eating street food with Aurgus twenty years ago and checking if her father was around or not. Her golden timeline fades as soon as that night of confession.
“LILY! LILY!” screams echoed around the large school field while teenage Lily was running, leaving behind everyone around her in the race. Lily, as expected, won the race with wrapped red ribbon around her waist. Other contestants glared at her, she noticed it by the corner of her eyes while teachers and friends patting on her back continuously making her shake everytime. Her eyes roaming around to find her best friends through the crowd around her.
“Name?” asked a nervous looking boy as same height as hers with a notebook and a pen, breaking Lily's concentration.
“Huh? Oh! Lily Finson.” said Lily with a professional smile showing her pride as a winner. That boy wrote her name on the notebook, probably making a list of winners for any function. Drops of sweat dripping from her forehead, making her look tanner than she is because of the running in extreme heat. She turned around as that boy didn't ask anything else and wiped of few drops of sweat with her uniform's sleeves.
“I am A-Aurgus.” said that boy having Lily's attention again towards himself. He forwarded a hand, perhaps for a shake. Lily looked at his hand and then at him. She shaked it with the same professional smile.
“Nice to meet you Aurgus.” Lily said and flinched at a sudden hand on her shoulder. It's her friend, Evy. She walked away with her and she thought as if she saw a glance of blush on Aurgus. She ignored it as if it's impossible for anyone to fall for her.
...
It's midnight when Lily was reading while swinging in a cane swing. It's 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' by JK Rowling, she read it for the 5th time and kept giving spoilers to everyone around her who didn't buy it that year. She shuts that book with a bang and jumped on her bed, making bed sheets wrinkled. She picked up letters from the drawer under her bed, which were checked by her mother first, as always. She rolled her eyes, knowing there is nothing interesting as it's allowed to read. Her guess was right, her friends knew, if they write anything interesting ( only interesting to Lily, not to her mother) it will probably be burned in fire by her mother and she will be told not to have any company with those friends. How lovely of her mother! But there is an uncommon envelope caught her eyes, it's navy blue. She opened that first.
Dear Lily,
It's Aurgus. First of all Congratulation for your absolute success in the race in our annual function. You will receive your trophy in cultural program. It will be held in two days. Thank you.
Aurgus.
At first she thought, maybe it's a letter which her mother forgot to check ( obviously unexpected ) but as she continued to read it, she realized how boring it actually is! Frustration gathered around her chest and she tried to sleep.
