Zenos opened the car door for Hayden with a gentlemanly flourish, his eyes never leaving the omega’s face. Hayden felt a blush creep up his cheeks, a mixture of embarrassment and flustered gratitude at Zenos' chivalrous gesture.
“Thank you,” Hayden mumbled, slipping into the passenger seat. Zenos' piercing gaze followed him, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Zenos settled into the driver's seat, his movements graceful and controlled. As the car roared to life, Hayden couldn’t help but sneak glances at Zenos, his mind still reeling from the events of the past night and the possessive claim Zenos had made.
As they drove, Zenos began to tease Hayden playfully. "You know, you look even more adorable when you blush," he remarked, his voice tinged with amusement.
Hayden's blush deepened, and he turned his gaze out the window, trying to hide his flustered expression. "I'm not adorable," he muttered, more to himself than to Zenos.
Zenos chuckled softly, his hand briefly brushing against Hayden's knee, sending a jolt of electricity through him. "I beg to differ," Zenos said, his voice low and teasing. "But I'll let you keep your illusions for now."
Hayden's heart raced, a mixture of annoyance and inexplicable delight at Zenos' teasing. The car ride continued with Zenos occasionally making playful comments, each one causing Hayden's blush to intensify.
Before long, they arrived at Hayden's home, a mansion-type house that was elegant but not overly grand. Zenos parked the car and turned to Hayden, his expression shifting to one of determination.
"I'll stay here with you today," Zenos announced.
Hayden's eyes widened in surprise. "You don't have to do that," he said quickly, trying to come up with an excuse. "I'm sure you have important things to do."
Zenos shook his head, his gaze unwavering. "Nothing is more important than you, Hayden."
Hayden's heart skipped a beat at Zenos' words, and he felt a sense of helplessness wash over him. "Really, I'll be fine," he insisted. "You don't need to—"
But Zenos cut him off, scooping Hayden up effortlessly in his arms. Hayden let out a surprised yelp, his arms instinctively wrapping around Zenos' neck for balance.
"Zenos! Put me down!" Hayden protested, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Zenos smirked, carrying Hayden up the steps to the front door. "I don't think so," he replied, his tone firm. "I want to make sure you're safe."
Hayden squirmed slightly but found himself settling against Zenos' strong chest, a sense of reluctant comfort washing over him. Despite his protests, a part of him felt protected and cared for in Zenos' arms.
As they entered the house, Hayden's mind raced with thoughts of how to explain the situation to Andy, his best friend, and how to navigate this new, intense relationship with Zenos. But for now, he was too exhausted to think clearly, and he couldn't deny the sense of security he felt in the alpha's presence.
Zenos gently set Hayden down once they were inside, his hands lingering on Hayden's waist. "Why don't you rest for a bit?" Zenos suggested. "I'll be here if you need anything."
Hayden nodded, feeling a mixture of gratitude and confusion. "Okay," he said softly, looking up at Zenos with wide, green eyes.
Zenos' expression softened, and he leaned down to place a gentle kiss on Hayden's forehead. "You're safe with me, Hayden," he whispered. "Always."
Hayden felt a warmth spread through him at Zenos' words, and for the first time, he allowed himself to relax slightly in the Enigma's presence. Maybe, just maybe, things would be okay. With that thought, he let himself be guided to the living room, where he sank onto the plush couch, his mind still whirling but his heart beginning to accept the new reality that was unfolding before him.
