Saturday dawned sunny. The beautiful redhead slept peacefully after having spent almost the entire night awake.
In the next room, Dereck had already woken up and gone downstairs to have his breakfast.
He insistently looked at the elevator that gave access to the rooms on the upper floors... the same elevator he had used to get to the hotel restaurant.
"Good morning, Mr. Norton," the waitress kindly placed the cup of coffee on Dereck's table.
He took a sip of the tasty American coffee, continuing reluctantly to look at the elevator.
Unable to contain his concern any longer, Dereck quickly grabbed his cell phone, dialing Evelyn's number.
The call took a while to be answered.
"Good morning, Mr. Norton," Evelyn said hoarsely. She already had his contact in her address book.
"Good morning, Miss Aguiar. What happened? I'm waiting for the notes from yesterday's meeting. What's the meaning of this delay?"
He disguised the real reason for his call, speaking in a harsh tone.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Norton. I ended up getting delayed and overslept. But I'll email you the notes right now..."
"No!" Dereck said rigidly and reluctantly. "I want to see what you wrote down personally... Bring it to me immediately."
He said slowly, looking at the cup of coffee on the table.
"I'm at the hotel restaurant, come down here in half an hour."
Dereck hung up without waiting for Evelyn's reply.
"What an unbearable man," Evelyn muttered, throwing the phone on the bed and getting up immediately afterward... "What's the difference between sending it by email and seeing it on my cell phone? Aren't they the same thing? What a boring man... God? Give me strength to put up with him."
Evelyn took a shower and did her personal hygiene.
Half an hour later, she was already coming out of the elevator, dazzlingly beautiful.
A pair of penetrating brown eyes watched her silently from afar as she walked with her head down in the immense hall of the restaurant.
Although shy, Evelyn was radiantly beautiful.
Dereck couldn't take his eyes off her.
He soon realized that he wasn't the only man admiring her.
Some of the men who were sitting at their tables stared at her, completely captivated by the redhead's beauty.
Seeing that made Dereck quickly uncomfortable.
"Mr. Norton!" Evelyn raised her head and could see where her boss was.
"I thought you had returned to Brazil," he said without fixing his gaze on her.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Norton. I didn't have a good night's sleep. That's why I overslept. But the notes from yesterday's meeting are here."
Evelyn handed him her cell phone.
"I need to get back to my room quickly. I forgot my watch."
Evelyn left, and Dereck looked at her again.
He couldn't disguise how fascinated he was by her.
Seeing her disappear from his sight, he turned his attention to the notes she had made.
But suddenly, Dereck's eyes turned cold and dark when a message arrived on Evelyn's cell phone.
📩 "Hottie, call me. I miss you."
He quickly squeezed the device in his hands.
And then he left the phone on the table, going back to drinking his now cold coffee.
Dereck called the waitress and ordered another coffee.
At that moment, Evelyn returned to the table.
"Have you had your coffee, sir? I'm going to order mine as well."
"Let's go!" Dereck stood up quickly.
Evelyn didn't understand anything.
"Here's your coffee!" The waitress arrived at the table.
"Thank you." Evelyn thanked her and went after her boss.
"Mr. Norton, where are we going? I haven't had breakfast yet," she said breathlessly, trying to keep up with him.
"We're going back to Brazil."
Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise at his haste.
"But sir?" Evelyn was about to speak, but Dereck quickly looked at her with dark eyes.
"No questions, Miss Aguiar."
He said, exiting the elevator and heading towards his room.
"All right, Mr. Norton. I'll get my backpack..."
Evelyn left and entered her room.
Dereck stood at the door of the room.
Those words from the message had left him quite disturbed.
"And I even thought she was different..."
Dereck gave a wry half-smile as he entered the room.
The trip back to Brazil was uneventful. Dereck had rented a private jet.
He and his secretary didn't exchange a word during that time.
It was already night when they arrived on Brazilian soil, Evelyn got out of the plane to get a taxi to the mansion...
"Good night, Mr. Norton. See you on Monday."
She said, her face pale, as she walked away from Dereck. He immediately noticed that Evelyn was not well.
But after thinking for a second, he stopped worrying about her.
He took a step to get into the car that was already waiting for him when he heard the sound of something falling to the ground.
He quickly looked back and saw that it was Evelyn.
Dereck rushed over to her.
Evelyn had fainted.
He took her to a private hospital.
"How is she, Dr. Miller?" he asked worriedly about Evelyn.
"Mr. Norton, your secretary is anemic, but thank God she won't need a blood transfusion... I'll keep her under observation for a while longer and then I'll discharge her..."
"Thank you, Dr. Miller."
Dereck thanked him and continued to look at her.
Evelyn stirred on the bed, and Dereck immediately left the infirmary.
Evelyn opened her eyes, her body aching from the fall.
"Where am I?" she asked a nursing technician.
"You're in the infirmary at Norton Hospital."
Evelyn quickly blinked, not understanding the woman's words...
"Norton Hospital? Wasn't the Norton group just a perfume and cosmetics chain?"
Evelyn let her thoughts wander.
After almost an hour, she was discharged.
As she left the infirmary, Alexandre was waiting for her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, stunned to see him there...
"I got a call from your husband. He told me to come and get you."
Evelyn blinked twice, not understanding.
"How does he know I'm here?"
She asked, staring at Alexandre.
"I don't know, ma'am. Now, shall we go?"
Evelyn was stunned by the situation but soon answered Alexandre.
"That worm I can't even call my husband is following me? It has to be..."
"Ma'am, I don't know how he found out, but I'm here to help you. In fact, here's a document that allows you to consult at this hospital starting today without paying anything. Just sign it..."
Evelyn looked at the papers in Alexandre Fonseca's hand.
"Don't tell me he's going to pay for my health insurance? Tell him I don't want his help."
Evelyn walked out of the hospital corridor, and Alexandre followed her.
He didn't insist that Evelyn sign the papers to have free access to the private hospital.
Alexandre left Evelyn at the Sulivan mansion. And as she looked at the messages, she saw that there was one she hadn't seen yet...
It was a message from her friend Marcelo.
