Chapter 4

Chapter 4: A Chance to Make it Right

As they drove to Mei's boutique, Wei asked about her life, her business, and her relationship with Jian. Mei filled him in on everything, from their successful fashion shows to their struggles with rival designers. Wei listened intently, nodding his head and making supportive noises.

When they arrived at the boutique, Mei showed Wei around, introducing him to her staff and showing off her latest designs. Wei was impressed by the boutique's success and Mei's talent. "You've really made a name for yourself, Mei. I'm so proud of you."

Mei blushed, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. "Thanks, Wei. It means a lot coming from you."

Just then, the door to the boutique burst open and Jian strode in, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Wei. His expression darkened, and his eyes narrowed into slits. Mei could feel the tension in the air as Jian's gaze locked onto Wei with a fierce intensity.

Wei, oblivious to the hostility, smiled and extended his hand. "Jian, good to see you again!"

But Jian ignored the gesture, his eyes blazing with a fierce animosity. "What are you doing here, Wei?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.

"You think you can just waltz back into Mei's life after all these years?" Jian sneered, his face twisted in contempt. "You think you can just apologize and everything will be forgiven?"

Wei's eyes flashed with anger, but he stood his ground. "I'm not afraid of you, Jian. And I'm not leaving until I resolve things with Mei."

Jian took a step closer to Wei, his fists clenched at his sides. "You're not welcome here, Wei. You're not welcome in Mei's life. And if you don't leave now, I'll make sure you regret it."

Wei's face turned red with anger, and he took a step closer to Jian. "You think you can threaten me, Jian? You think you can intimidate me?"

The two men stood nose to nose, their faces inches apart, their anger and hatred palpable in the air. Mei felt a sense of panic, knowing she had to do something before things escalated further.

Just as Jian's eyes were blazing with a fierce intensity, Mei shouted, "STOP IT, BOTH OF YOU! THIS IS MY BOUTIQUE, AND I WON'T HAVE YOU TWO RUINING IT WITH YOUR PETTY ARGUMENTS!"

The two men froze, their faces still twisted in anger, but their eyes slowly backing down from the intense stare. Mei took a deep breath and stepped forward, her voice firm but calm. "Let's settle this once and for all. Wei, you and I need to talk. Jian, please leave us alone for a minute."

Jian's face darkened, but he nodded curtly and turned to leave. Wei watched him go, his eyes still flashing with anger, but he nodded at Mei and followed her to the back room.

Mei closed the door behind them and turned to face Wei. "What do you want, Wei? Why are you really here?"

Wei's face softened, and he looked at Mei with a pleading expression. "I know I hurt you, Mei. And I'm so sorry. But I've changed. I've realized what I lost, and I want a second chance."

Mei's heart skipped a beat. She had thought she was over Wei, but seeing him again brought back all the old feelings. But could she really trust him again?

Mei looked at Wei, her expression softening slightly. "Wei, I appreciated our friendship, but you abandoned me when I needed you most. You didn't even bother to check in on me or see how I was doing. And now, you just waltz back into my life and expect everything to be okay?"

Wei's eyes dropped, his face filled with shame. "I know, Mei. And I don't expect you to forgive me overnight. But I want to make it right. I want to prove to you that I've changed."

Mei sighed, her mind racing with thoughts. She had cared about Wei deeply, but his abandonment had hurt her so much. And now, she wasn't sure if she could ever trust him again.

Just then, Jian's voice interrupted the moment. "Mei, what's going on here?" he demanded, his eyes narrowing at Wei.

Mei held up a hand, her voice firm. "Jian, can you excuse us for a minute? I need to talk to Wei in private."

Jian nodded, his eyes still suspicious, but he backed off, giving them space.

"Wei, you should leave now," Mei said, her voice soft but firm. "I'll contact you soon, and we can talk more."

Wei nodded, his eyes still filled with emotion, and left.

Jian turned to Mei, his eyes still concerned. "Mei, be careful around him," he said, his voice low and genuine. "It's been years, maybe he's not the same person he used to be."

Mei smiled and nodded. "I will, Jian."

Jian nodded and turned to leave, but Mei called out to him.

"Jian, wait."

Jian turned back, his eyes questioning.

"Thanks for always being there for me, Jian. You're a true friend."

Jian smiled and nodded. "Anytime, Mei. Take care."
