Chapter 3: A Sudden Departure

Mei and Jian's business was thriving, with their boutique becoming the go-to destination for fashionistas in the city. They were living their dream, and their partnership was stronger than ever. But suddenly, everything changed.

Jian received a weird phone call that left him looking pale and worried. He quickly gathered his things and left the boutique without a word, leaving Mei feeling confused and concerned. She tried calling him, but he didn't answer.

Mei was heartbroken. She had never seen Jian like that before, and she didn't know what was wrong. She finished her work at the boutique, but her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Jian. She couldn't focus on anything, and her usually calm and collected self was replaced with anxiety and fear.

Just then, she received a text from Wei's younger sister, Lingxi, who was also a close friend of Mei's. Lingxi was only 19, four years younger than Mei, but she had always been there for her, even when Wei left the city without a word.

"Hey Mei, meet me at our favorite café! I have something important to tell you!" Lingxi's text read.

Mei arrived at the café, and as soon as Lingxi saw her, she let out a squeal and ran to hug her tightly. "Oh my gosh, Mei! I've missed you so much!"

Mei was taken aback by the tight hug, but she laughed and replied, "Geez, your hug is tighter than the tightest elastic I put on my dresses!"

Lingxi apologized, "Sorry, sorry! I get carried away sometimes!"

As they sat down, Lingxi explained that she had news about Wei, and Mei's heart skipped a beat. What could it be? Was Wei coming back to the city? Mei's mind was racing with questions.

Lingxi noticed Mei's worried expression and took her hand. "Don't worry, Mei. It's good news. Wei is coming back to the city, and he wants to see you."

Mei's heart skipped a beat. She had mixed feelings about Wei's return. On one hand, she was happy to see her old friend again. On the other hand, she was worried about how Jian would react to Wei's return.

As they chatted, Mei couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that Wei's return would bring back memories of the past, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to face them. She had moved on with her life, and she was happy with Jian. But a part of her still wondered what could have been if Wei had stayed.

Lingxi noticed Mei's distant expression and asked, "Hey, are you okay? You seem a bit spaced out."

Mei snapped back to reality and smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit worried about Jian, that's all."

Lingxi nodded understandingly. "I know how you feel. But maybe Wei's return is a good thing. Maybe it's time for closure."

Mei thought about Lingxi's words. Maybe she was right. Maybe it was time to confront the past and move on once and for all.

As they finished their drinks, Lingxi said, "I have to go, but I'll see you soon, okay?"

Mei nodded, and they hugged goodbye. As she watched Lingxi leave, Mei felt a sense of determination. She was going to face whatever came her way, and she was going to come out stronger on the other side.

Over the next few days, Mei couldn't help but think about Wei's return. She wondered what he wanted, and what his presence would mean for her and Jian. She tried to focus on her work, but her mind kept wandering back to the past.

Finally, the day arrived when Wei was due to return. Mei felt a mix of emotions as she waited for him at the airport. She was nervous, excited, and scared all at once.

As Wei emerged from the arrivals gate, Mei's heart skipped a beat. He looked older, but his smile was still the same. They hugged tightly, and Mei felt a rush of memories come flooding back.

"It's so good to see you again," Wei said, holding her at arm's length. "You look amazing."

Mei blushed and smiled. "Thanks, Wei. You look great too."

As they made their way out of the airport, Mei couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Was Wei back to stay, or was this just a temporary visit? And how would Jian react to Wei's return?
