Upon seeing her face, I become speechless with her beauty.
My first thought was, “An angel?”. Radiant and silky white hair like the snows
with a pair of two mesmerizing eyes more brighter and hypnotizing than any
rubies; Her beauty cannot be explained in just words. She looks like a heavenly
being. I was even in a daze after seeing her and almost blurred out the word “beautiful”.
She fluttered her long eyelashes slowly like feathers. Now I understand why
those trashy male leads were head over heels for her.
Once I break out of my daze, I smile at her warmly and
introduce myself lifting my skirt up a little in an elegant manner.
“Greetings, my lady. I am Elanoura Triluver, the youngest
daughter of the Triluver family. It’s my biggest pleasure to meet you.”
“…I am Adelite…Gravius” she replies hesitantly avoiding
making eye contact with me. Her nervousness reminds me of a scared deer. I can’t
help but like her.
“Would you like to have a tour with me around this mansion,
lady Adelite?”
“Uh, I-I would like to!” she may be still nervous but her
eyes glinted a little with curiosity.
“Well then, please follow me.”
“Yes!” she keeps her pace with me taking each steps
carefully to not trip since her dress is too long.
“Would you like to hold my hand?”
She nods and takes my hand. She is way too adorable for my
heart! Too freaking cute! Is that what it feels like to have a little sister?
“Lady Adelite, can you be my first ever friend?”
“Wha-what!! Yo-you want me to be your first friend? But, but
I am… lowly…”
“Lady Adelite. How
can someone like you be lowly? Who told you that?”
“Everybody says so. All the maids, servants, my siblings and….even
my parents.”
“You are in no way lowly. You are the most kind hearted
child I have ever seen.” It breaks my heart to see such a young child saying
she is lowly as if she has been learning that from birth.
“I… am not lowly? I am not dirty?”
“Please pardon my rudeness. But, NO. You are not dirty, you
are not lowly nor are you ugly! Those who said that are simply jealous of you.”
“Yo-you are the first person to ever say that to me…”
“It means all the people you have met till now were either
blind or way too dumb to see your beauty.”
She stays silent for some time and finally she smiles brightly
for the first time at me with her eyes teary.
“Thank you, lady Elanoura…”
“So, we are friends from now on, right?”
“Yes!”
“Then please talk to me informally. You can call me Ela.”
“You are also my first friend, Ela! I like you!” she hugs me
as she says that. Oh gosh! She is too small that she barely even reaches my
shoulder.
“Can I call you Adelite?”
“Yes.”
Good. Now all that’s left is to gain her trust. It will obviously
take some time. So, for now I shall try to show that I am on bad terms with the
marquess first.
“Why am I your first friend, Adelite? As I am aware the
duchess took you to many other noble family’s house.”
She hesitates, “…They all hated me. Th-they looked at me
scarily. I was so scared of them.”
“Why? Did they not know that you are the duchess’ daughter?”
“They did. But mother herself beat me up at home and she ordered others to
not behave nicely with me too…”
“Oh my……the duchess is too cruel. Is your father and
siblings like that too?”
“…Yes. They all hate me….all because I am a fake….” she mumbles
the part quietly.
“Fake? What do you mean by that?”
She becomes scared at the realization that she talked about
something forbidden. She stutters,”No-nothing! You heard wrong!” Her complexion
goes pale.
I grab her shoulders and face her face to face to me. I
scouch down to her level.
“Adelite. There’s nothing to be scared about. I won’t force
you. You don’t have to tell if you don’t want to. Instead how about I tell you
something about me? A secret of mine.”
She calms down slowly.
“Wh-what is it?”
“Actually, I am not biologically related to the Triluver
family. The marquess adopted me when I was 8.” I say faking a sad smile.
“Wha-what… You-you are adopted…similar to me…”
“Can you keep this a secret? This will be a secret only
between us.” Although soon everybody will know. It’s not really a secret.
“Yes! I promise to never tell about this to anyone!”
I smile, “I trust you, Adelite.”
“I-I also want to tell you my secret..” her complexion goes
pale again.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to-”
“N-no. I want to…”
“If you wish so.”
She stays silent for quite a while finally before talking, “I-I
am not the real daughter. They say I am fake. They say that me and my other
siblings don’t have the same mother, that I am illegitimate. I heard them
talking that my mother was a lowly maid…”
“My lord…it must have been so tough for you.” I hug her. As
I do that she bursts into tears and cries in my arms for a long time. She
finally stops when her eyes are all puffy and red.
“Pfft- you look so adorable.”
“Th-thank you, Ela.” She blushes. Done! Now, I have got her
to sympathies with me. Although I don’t think she completely trusts me yet. But
her favorability for me has definitely improved.
“Adelite, I promise to be your friend no matter what
happens. So, you can trust me.”
Huh? For a moment it looked like her eyes turned cold, the
eyes of someone who has experienced a lot and now is tired with life. I must
have mistaken. But, what if it really is true? No, no, it is impossible! Yes,
this is supposed to be her fourth and final life, but she comes back to the
past when she is 12. So, it is impossible for her to know anything when she is 8.
But what was that look? No, I was clearly mistaken. I sigh
and smile as I brush it off. To think that small thing I ignored would cause me
this much trouble.
