Episode 5

I looked with a touch of nostalgia at the house before my eyes, then closed my eyes and transported myself to those times of yesteryear when all the disaster that had succumbed to my world had not yet happened. I could hear the hysterical laughter of my brothers as they played in the garden. The grumpy voice of Mom scolding Dad for whatever crossed her mind.

But those were times that would never return, now all that remained was an empty house, filled with a gloomy and desolate feeling. Those days would never come back.

Mom was in prison, Dad was dead, Alejandro was happy with his family after all the suffering they went through, and Sebastian... well, he was traveling the world with the one he proclaimed the love of his life. The only one left behind was me, the only one who couldn't leave the past behind was me.

But how could I forget? How could I do it if when I closed my eyes the only thing I could think of was my past mistakes?

"Young man, the car is ready, do you need anything else?" one of the guards asked me, to which I shook my head.

"No, that would be all."

I contemplated the mansion in front of my eyes for the last time, then got into the car and left for a partner's company to sign some important documents.

"So, as I was explaining to you, Max. A large amount of resources is needed to start this bidding project, and we also have to see what happens on the government side, you know how they always put some 'but' for anything. The studies I have done regarding the financial and productive part look good, so I think it will be easier to attract investments. This is a millionaire and feasible business, its risk rate is very low, we are all going to win."

I nod in agreement, just when I was about to add my opinion, a woman appeared who seemed a bit familiar, she had black hair to her shoulders, maybe a little shorter, she had brown eyes with a golden touch in the center, her complexion was a bit small, maybe she was 1.60 m tall. However, as soon as I noticed the tray with cups of coffee, I realized who the woman in front of my eyes was.

It was that woman who spilled coffee in my office, if I'm not mistaken her last name was Saltos? Salas? Well, something like that.

Apparently, she also recognized me, as her eyes opened in a funny way when they met mine. I wanted to get up to avoid some catastrophe as soon as I noticed that her foot wobbled a little, but my intentions were in vain, what had to happen, would simply happen.

Yes, I was bathed in coffee again. I didn't know if I should take this personally.

This woman seemed to be my star of misfortune.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" she tried to apologize, but her words went in one ear and out the other. I could see her face full of shame, her eyes wandered everywhere, for some strange reason her attitude seemed funny to me, however, as soon as I realized the ruined documents, I stopped paying attention to her.

"The laptop is completely ruined." I murmured, frowning at the thought of how problematic everything would be, even though everything was saved in the cloud, there were always things that were left out.

"Please, miss, leave the office right now," Marcus said with a touch of anger.

I tried to open my mouth to say something, but at the end of the day, this matter was not my concern, she was no longer my employee. When that woman heard Marcus's voice, she frowned, then opened and closed her mouth as if she wanted to say something, however, in the end she chose to remain silent and follow Marcus's instructions.

Once she left, Marcus approached me with a couple of napkins, which I gratefully accepted, I tried to clean my clothes without success. Apparently, I had to go home to change. Again, I couldn't help but frown at the thought of how problematic the matter would be.

"I'm sorry, Max, you must be extremely angry. I understand if you don't want to cooperate with my company, but let me explain, this girl is new…"

I didn't let him finish his explanation, I didn't feel comfortable smelling of coffee.

"Enough, it's okay, I'll go..." I said trying to downplay the matter.

"You see, you're angry. Don't worry, I'll solve things your way," he interrupted me.

I tried to soften my face and smile, however, as soon as I looked at Marcus, he completely avoided my gaze while twisting his hands.

"Don't worry, Max. I understand, this is something I can't let pass. That girl will be fired."

"Wait, that's not necessary..."

Although I tried to downplay the matter, Marcus didn't seem to listen.

"I'll have our meeting rescheduled. I apologize for the inconvenience caused, that girl, does she have butterfingers?" he muttered in a trembling voice.

I asked myself the same thing.

I felt a little worried about that woman's future. If she continued with her tendency to trip and spill things on other people, I doubt she could survive in the working world.

"Maybe she's aiming for the wrong position."

"What did you say?" he questioned in a trembling tone of voice.

"Nothing."

"Max, as I was saying, I have them both. I hope our business is still standing. I will send you the necessary documents and that woman will be fired."

"Don't do it, I think that's too much."

"I must do it, don't worry, just leave it in my hands."

I looked up at the ceiling with resignation, then nodded and left the office. Although I wanted to explain this type of misunderstanding regarding my personality, it was something that was more than deeply rooted.

For the whole world, I was nothing more than a ruthless CEO, someone cold and cruel.
