Chapter 4- The New Mysterious Guy

Lily sat in her classroom waiting for her lecture to begin. It was a typical day, but something felt different. That's when she saw him, a new transfer student entering the classroom. His overall appearance made one want to befriend him. He introduced himself as Marco while introducing himself, Lily caught him gazing towards her but didn't bother her. Coincidently, the seat behind Lily was empty, so the teacher asked Marco to sit behind Lily, and the teacher also requested Lily to help out Marco as he had transferred in the middle of the semester. Lily agreed.

The lecture ended, and classmates surrounded Marco to get to know him, but Marco refused to give them attention and politely asked them to leave him alone. Lily caught Marco's attention as she was the only one who didn't bother to get to know him. Marco called Lily from behind to start a conversation but got ignored by her, which made him misjudge Lily's personality and her character. Classmates notice Marco being ignored and advise him not to make conversation with Lily as she ignores, Lily has a quite bad image for her classmates and Marco starts to think the same. But in reality, Lily is deaf and uses hearing aids so her hearing world is different. There are many cons of hearing aid; one of them is not being able to hear sound from behind. While Marco thinks Lily ignored him intentionally, but Lily unintentionally ignored him.

The next lecture began, and as Lily started to prepare to note down the lecture, she noticed her pen missing. She looked around but couldn't find it. She checked her pouch for a spare pen but didn't have any. She could already sense her classmates were displeased with her, so asking anyone for a pen would be a difficult task. As she was picking up the courage to ask for a pen, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. As she turned around, it was a guy holding Lily's lost pen in front of her face. It was Marco. She was very grateful she whispered 'Thank you' with kindness, which made Marco confused about her personality and character.

Lily and Leo had decided to change the environment of their study. Instead of the college library, they wished to study in cozy cafes. Lily was in a hurry to leave the classroom as Leo was waiting at the exit gate of the college. Lily and Leo met at the exit gate and were about to leave but were suddenly interrupted by Marco. "Lily, you dropped your pen," Lily recognized it was Marco. She said, "Thank you again. Before I forget, here are the previous class notes. If you have any doubts, you can reach out to me." By the kindness of Lily, Marco was even more confused. While Lily was handing Marco notes, Marco greeted Leo with "How are you doing?" Leo just nodded, and Marco was ignored again. Marco thought to himself, "Why do the people I choose to talk to ignore me?"

The awkward atmosphere was broken when Lily suggested Marco join them. He indeed agreed, but Leo was displeased by Marco joining them. Still, he acted fine. Marco and Leo sat down at a table while they were removing books from their bags. Lily left to order coffee. Marco tried talking to Leo again, "Are you ignoring me intentionally? Come on, I'm your childhood friend." Leo became suddenly furious, "How dare you call yourself my friend after what you have done?" Marco replied, "I said sorry many times, how many more 'I'm sorry' do I have to say?" "Until you say it from your heart," Leo replied as he was leaving the cafe.
