Episode 15

After Dennis had dinner with Amanda, he took her home. He returned to his apartment. He was very tired and soon fell asleep.

The next day, Mel and Daniela woke up early. They wanted to get to work early.

While Mel was taking a shower, Daniela was in the kitchen, looking at social media and a photo immediately caught her eye. It was a photo of Amanda and Dennis smiling, embracing, with a caption:

"The great CEO of the Connor group announced on Monday night that he will be getting married in a month to the model Amanda Fox".

Daniela stared at the photo, her mouth agape, completely surprised by the news.

"I don't believe it. They're getting married? So fast?"

"Who's getting married so fast?" Mel dried her hair with a towel, looking at Daniela.

"Your boss!"

Daniela answered, making Mel freeze. Simultaneously the towel slipped from her hands and fell to the floor.

"Dennis? H-h-h-he's getting married?"

Mel stammers, lowering her eyes sadly and sits down on one of the chairs at the table.

"Mel? Don't be like that... Didn't you tell me you two had nothing? So why are you so sad?"

"I fell in love with that man!" She screams with a few tears rolling down her beautiful face.

"Oh, my friend... I knew you felt something for him... But unfortunately, he's getting married in a month."

"A month? But, but that's too fast, Daniela... Why is Dennis in such a hurry?"

Mel knew Dennis was engaged to Amanda, but she never thought he would want to get married so quickly after their involvement.

"Mel? Tell me what's going on between you two? I know you're hiding something from me."

Mel looks at Daniela with red and pained eyes, and after receiving a loving hug from her friend, she tells her everything that happened between them the day before.

"Dani, things aren't as simple as you think. I've been dating Carlos for a long time, and I couldn't end a relationship because of a feeling that arose so quickly."

Mel didn't want to hurt Carlos.

Daniela sighs, getting up from the table and walking towards the kitchen.

"But that's okay... It's over. I'm going to dry my tears and have my coffee and go to the company... I'm sure I'll hurt myself again today when I see him next to that woman."

"They even make a beautiful couple! But this woman doesn't fool me... There's something about her that doesn't sit right with me at all."

Daniela returns to the table with her cell phone and the coffee pot.

"He looks so happy!" Mel looks at the photo of a smiling Dennis next to his fiancee on Daniela's cell phone.

"I read here on another page, that Dennis took her to a romantic dinner last night."

Mel's eyes start to water again.

"Let's not talk about them anymore. My thing with him is over. I decided that, so I will suffer the consequences."

Mel opens the coffee pot.

As she pours the dark, fragrant liquid into the cup, Mel absentmindedly spills the hot coffee on the back of her hand.

She quickly cries out in pain as she feels the liquid burn her skin.

"My God, Mel! How did that happen? What are you thinking about?" She puts her hand under running water.

Quickly Mel goes to the sink and places her hand burned by hot coffee under the faucet.

"You need to put some ointment on it."

Daniela was worried about her friend.

"Don't worry. It's burning a lot, but I can handle it. I'm going to have a snack and then get ready for work.

Daniela looks at her with sad eyes.

"Mel, I don't think working with Mr. Connor is going to work. You'd better quit. I can get you a job at the hotel where I work."

"Dani, this is my life. This is my struggle. I need to be strong and face it. In fact, friend, I'm going to ask him to leave early today. Carlos sent me a message saying he'll be back on Friday. I want to go to his apartment and tidy up a bit."

"Mel, are you your boyfriend's maid now? You don't have to do this, your hand is hurt."

Daniela was irritated.

"It's not much to do. The apartment is clean, I just want to dust a little."

"Did he ask you to do this?" Daniela asks, smoothing Mel's messy hair.

Half an hour later, they were at the bus stop.

Mel arrives at the company on time.

She goes to her desk, looking out at Dennis' office in the distance.

"It's still early. He must be sleeping with that woman clinging to him."

Mel goes to the office to tidy up Dennis' desk.

She gets everything ready and as she's about to walk out the door, she comes face to face with the CEO.

Dennis enters, closing the door behind them.

"Good morning, Mr. Connor. I've already tidied up your desk and left a note about today's meeting."

She says it all with her head down.

"Good morning, Miss Mayer. Thank you."

He thanked her, staring at her.

Mel puts her hand on the doorknob to open it, Dennis quickly glances at the large redness on the back of her hand.

"You're hurt! How did you get hurt, Mel?"

Dennis gently takes her palm in his.

"It's nothing, Mr. Connor. You don't have to worry about me."

She says indifferently, irritating Dennis.

"And who said I was worried about you? I'm just interested in how you'll be able to fulfill your duties."

He says coldly, sitting on the office couch.

"Of course, Mr. Connor... I didn't think you were worried about me... After all, I'm just your employee... I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your marriage... May you be very happy."

Mel speaks ironically, looking at him.

"How do you know about the wedding?"

Dennis gets up and stands very close to her.

His perfume was very disturbing to Mel.

"It's all over the websites and social media. The great CEO of the Connor group announced to the world yesterday that he's getting married to model Amanda Fox in a month."

Mel says quite irritably and boldly.

"Mel, I don't know anything about that... It's true that I'm marrying Amanda in a month, but I haven't announced it to anyone. How could this have leaked out?"

Dennis responds, his worried gaze piercing Mel's brown eyes.

"I don't know. But I really don't care."

Mel again puts her hand on the doorknob to open the door to leave.

Dennis quickly pulls her against the door, pressing himself against her.
