A dark mist of fury flooded Dennis's vision as he watched Mel smile at his friend Arthur. It deeply unsettled him.
Quickly, Dennis passed through the door, pulling Mel by the waist into the office. Arthur seized the momentum and followed them in, closing the door behind him.
"Sit down. Even in anger, he calmly requested Mel to return to the couch."
"Dennis, here are the clothes. I brought exactly three dresses."
Arthur spoke to the CEO, his gaze fixed on Mel.
Dennis felt increasingly disturbed by the scene unfolding.
"Mel? Your name is so beautiful and sweet. Why are you all wet? Now I understand. The clothes are for you."
Mel smiled discreetly and soon replied.
"I got caught in the rain when I got off the bus and walked here. I forgot to bring an umbrella and a raincoat."
Mel looked at Dennis, who couldn't stop tapping his feet, his body leaning against the table with his hands firmly gripping his chin.
"Thank you, Arthur, for bringing the clothes, but you can go home now."
Dennis took the bag with the dresses from Arthur's hand and gently pushed him away.
Arthur sidestepped his friend and approached Mel.
"Are you okay? He placed his hand on the secretary's forehead."
Dennis tried to control himself from pushing Arthur away from her.
"I'm not feeling well... She accidentally sneezed on Arthur's shirt."
"Don't worry, I’ll take care of my secretary. Dennis stepped in front of his friend."
"You need to change those clothes right now. Go to the bathroom."
Dennis held her by the waist, helping Mel to stand up, and handed her the bag with the clothes.
"Thank you, Mr. Connor. I’ll change right away."
Mel headed toward the bathroom.
Arthur and Dennis stared at her as she walked away.
"Dennis, poor your secretary. It's better to give her the day off. Mel has a fever... If she doesn’t rest, she could catch pneumonia or something similar."
"What kind of intimacy is this with my secretary, Arthur? Why do you keep calling her name as if you were close? Do you know each other?" Dennis asked, his expression tense.
He moved to the water cooler; his throat was dry.
"I don’t know her! But buddy, I think I’m in love... My heart raced immediately when I looked at her. Do you believe in love at first sight? I didn’t before, but now I do..."
Dennis firmly grasped the glass of water as he listened to Arthur's declaration.
"You must be joking... Wake up, my friend... Miss Mayer already has a boyfriend. So stop with the nonsense and keep your distance from her."
"She has a boyfriend? I can’t believe it... Dennis, I’m serious. I fell in love for the first time in my life... I want that woman for myself..."
Arthur expressed himself with sparkling eyes.
He truly fell for Mel at first sight.
Dennis loosened his tie and approached Arthur with an intimidating glare.
"I suggest you don’t bother her, or you’ll have problems with her boyfriend..."
He gave a darkly sarcastic smile.
"I’m not afraid of that guy... I’ll get close to her as a friend, and then I’ll win her over with my kindness and attention... That woman will be mine, I guarantee it... She will fall for me..."
Dennis bit his lip and immediately shot him a warning look, listening to Arthur's words.
"You’re very confident! Mel is different from all the women you've been with, so it’s better to stay away from her. Things won’t be good for you otherwise..."
Dennis gripped the collar of Arthur’s shirt tightly, expressing his irritation.
"What’s with all this protection for your secretary, Dennis? You’re starting to look like her boyfriend."
Arthur pulled Dennis's hands away from his shirt.
Suddenly, the office door burst open, and a beautiful woman walked in, smiling.
"Honey, I’ve missed you..."
Amanda quickly approached, embracing Dennis and kissing him as she entered, moving closer to her fiance.
At that moment, the bathroom door swung open, and Mel stepped out, catching sight of the scene.
Her eyes began to burn, and she fought against a wild urge to cry at the sight of Dennis in another woman’s arms.
She had to swallow her tears, struggling hard to prevent the barriers of sorrow from flooding her eyes.
In her gaze, there was an immense sadness. Even Mel was taken aback by the feeling she had never experienced before.
"— Dennis, what does this mean?"
Amanda looked at Mel, standing still with a pale face in front of the bathroom.
Dennis quickly felt as if a hand was strangling him.
His heart raced with worry, uncertain of what Mel was thinking.
"— She arrived all wet at the company, so I asked Arthur to bring her a change of clothes."
"— And since when do you care about your secretary, Dennis? Why buy her clothes? She didn’t need that..."
Amanda looked at Mel with disdain.
"— Don’t say that, Amanda. Mel is very efficient, and the clothes were worth it. After all, I’m the one giving this little gift to Mel."
Arthur argued as he moved closer to Mel.
"— Oh, this could only come from you, Arthur..." Amanda glanced at Arthur beside Mel and continued, "— You really haven’t changed."
Mel merely lowered her head, sadness enveloping her.
"— Mel, let’s step outside the office; the couple wants to be alone."
Arthur took her cold hand, and they left.
Dennis tried to free himself from Amanda's embrace to go to Mel, but his fiancee tightened her grip around him.
"— Why are you acting so differently? It seems like you didn’t miss me at all."
She kissed him, and he returned the gesture without emotion.
"— Mel, let’s go downstairs. There’s a nearby restaurant that serves a great soup."
"— Thank you, sir, but that’s not necessary." Mel replied, sneezing again.
Arthur pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her.
"— Thank you." She expressed, glancing at the closed office door.
"— Don’t worry about your boss. They are certainly very busy."
Upon hearing Arthur, Mel was reminded of when she and Dennis made love in the office. A feeling of helplessness filled her heart as she remembered Dennis above her on the sofa, bringing her immense pleasure.
"— Now he's doing the same with her!"
"— Huh? What did you say, my dear?" Arthur asked, making Mel feel embarrassed.
"— Oh! I was just thinking out loud..."
"— Ah, right. So, shall we head to the restaurant?"
Mel blinked, unsure of what to do but soon made her decision.
"— Yes, let’s go. But I need to inform my boss."
"— Don’t worry about that. Dennis is so busy rekindling things with his girlfriend that he won't even notice you leaving. Shall we? I promise we won’t take long..."
"— Alright."
They headed straight for the elevator.
Back in the office, Amanda and Dennis were talking on the sofa.
"— Love, what happened? You’re here with me, but your mind seems so far away..."
"— It’s nothing... I’m just tired."
Amanda began to gently massage his back.
"— Relax, my love."
She said, massaging and nibbling on Dennis’s neck.
"— I want to make love to you," she whispered softly in the CEO’s ear.
