No Time to Back Out

...No time to back out...

0Heaven was so immersed in listing the suspect list she slept when the sun was almost up. That's why she was a little groggy to be woken up just a couple of hours before calling it a day, only to deal with the most pressing matter she currently had at hand.

"All the conditions are written in it. Read it if you must. Take your time." Heaven glanced up at the man sitting across from her in the mansion's garden.

Dominic, her husband, was already in his suit early in the morning. He had his leg resting over the other, drinking a cup of tea leisurely while reading something on his tablet.

'Man… what a beautiful sight early in the morning,' she thought, not bothering to look around her to appreciate the lush green and blooming flowers in the garden. Her focus was solely on this man with divine beauty, who was apparently asking for a divorce.

Heaven frowned before gazing down at the documents in front of her. 'They could have at least offered me coffee to function.' She mildly shook her head, trying to wake herself up.

The bag underneath her eyes was dark, and her hair was still all over the place. Heaven yawned indifferently as she picked up the documents, planning to pretend to read the divorce papers while she thought of a plan to delay it.

Little did she know, the man across from her was observing her from the corner of his eyes.

When Heaven yawned, his jaw slightly tightened. What they were discussing now was their divorce and yet, she was acting indifferent.

'What did I expect from her?' he laughed mockingly to himself, re-shifting his focus to his tablet. 'It's not like I didn't know she wanted this.'

Even though this marriage was done because there was a child involved, Heaven should care a little for their child. Dominic already accepted his relationship with his wife would only grow worse; not that he had hoped for them to act as husband and wife since there was no love between them from the get-go. However, he was hopeful for the past five years that she would at least show a little love for their child. After all, this child was also hers.

'Even when she's about to lose custody… she still doesn't show the slightest bit of concern.' He told himself to ignore her until she was finished reading, but Dominic still found himself observing her. 'This is good. Her attitude only proves I am doing the right thing for Basti.'

'What in the world?' While Dominic's resolution for this divorce strengthened, Heaven felt dizzy at the words she was reading. 'Are these human words?'

All the letters before her just flew over her head, jumbling in the air, making them unreadable to her. Her brain was not prepared to read such long, detailed documents early in the morning.

'But more than this.' She raised the documents to cover her face from the man's prying eyes. 'What in the world is wrong with me?'

The current Heaven was not this lethargic in her previous life. Even with just a thirty-minute nap, she could get by for an entire day without worry. Reading long documents was also not an alien task to do because the amount of paperwork she worked on in the past was way beyond a normal person's limit.

So why did she feel so sleepy and tired?

'Was it because this body isn't used to it?' she wondered, reviewing the original Heaven's memory. 'Err… she's sleep deprived and is used to it.'

The original Heaven used to be an actress, after all. Having little sleep but then still being required to memorize her lines and deliver them properly was part of her line of work. In other words, the lack of sleep was not a problem for the original Heaven.

Even though the original Heaven disappeared from the limelight five years ago, she still had problems with sleep. Still, Heaven might have stayed indoors, but at least, she had the energy to function even if she lacked sleep.

'Does this have something to do with the phenomenon that struck me?' she wondered. 'Since the soul is new to this body, I am required to adapt to this body? That's not impossible — to be fair, that makes sense. I can't believe I have to think spiritually instead of a realistic answer that is backed by science.'

Heaven yawned once again, trying to refocus her attention on the divorce papers. She narrowed her eyes, doing her best to skim through it just to get a little bit of understanding of this divorce. Not that she planned to divorce him, but she still needed to find loopholes to delay it. Better yet, stop it.

SLAM!

Dominic arched a brow when the cutleries and cups on the table clanged. He slowly turned his head to her, only to see Heaven's hand on top of the divorce papers.

'Here she goes,' he thought, assuming she reached a critical part of the condition that made her stop reading altogether. 'I put it in the first few clauses so we can address it early.'

However, instead of hearing some harsh remarks or serious questions from her, the words that came out of her mouth were something else.

"Hey…" she breathed out, clasping the edge of the table while trying to keep her eyes open. "I'm going to faint."

"Huh?" Dominic furrowed his brows, assessing her pale complexion. His reflexes tingled upon noticing how her lips turned purple before her eyes rolled, falling to her side.

Dominic tossed the tablet away, listening to his instinct as he leaped toward her to catch her before her body could land on the grass. His eyes were wide open and his heart was racing, looking at her unconscious figure with shaking eyes.

"Hey, what are you pulling off right now?" he tugged her to wake her up, but she didn't react like a withered leaf. "Heaven!"
