Episode 13

Ethan's POV

Jacob accompanied me to the doctor's office, his comforting presence providing a sense of security amidst my confusion, but when the moment came, I said goodbye to him for the time being and entered the office alone, where a doctor, an alpha as expected, awaited me with a serious expression.

I told the doctor my symptoms, feeling anxious and hoping it was nothing serious, I was desperate for an explanation for what was happening to me. The doctor listened attentively, taking notes as I spoke.

When I finished explaining everything, the doctor took a moment to reflect before speaking.

"Ethan... what you have described are the symptoms of an omega's heat." Although he sounded calm, I could notice a certain concern in his voice, which made me more anxious.

I looked at him perplexed, feeling my heart pound at how unreal what the doctor was saying sounded. I never even considered the possibility that I could be anything other than a beta, it sounded like something that could only happen in a movie or something.

"Not only that, Ethan, you also give off a subtle scent. Anyway, I must check with a blood test."

"But I had a test no more than a month ago, it confirmed that I was a beta."

"Yes, I could see them in your record."

"So how is that possible?"

"Have you been exposed to a dominant alpha these days? The duration of the caste change can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to months."

"Well, my boss is one..."

"Then I'll give you the order, you can have the test done right now, you will be sent an email with the results." The doctor said, handing me a paper with the order and also a license and a prescription.

The doctor assured me that I would be home for the rest of the week until I got used to the inhibitors, as it was risky if I didn't take them and went about my business as usual. He also clarified that if the test confirmed that I was an omega, I would be a recessive omega, so my chances of getting pregnant would be very low and my pheromones would be weak.

Dejected, I went to have the blood test done and then returned to Jacob, who accompanied me to the pharmacy.

"How did it go?" he asked me worriedly, as we walked to the pharmacy.

"Good, he prescribed me some medicine for the fever and upset stomach." I lied, I didn't feel safe telling him yet about my supposed caste change.

I was having trouble processing all this information. My life had suddenly become a whirlwind of uncertainty and confusion, I didn't know how to deal with this, let alone how to explain it to Stone.

As I walked to my little house, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of what I had just discovered. My life had changed irreversibly, and I had no idea how to move forward. All I could think about was hiding and not telling anyone, pretending that nothing was wrong was the best way not to lose my job, not to get away from the life I was beginning to build, and not to get away from Stone.
