Ethan's POV
The second day at my new job felt like the frantic office routine was already settling in. I dove into my work, taking care of the various tasks that required my attention. However, a sense of anticipation hung in the air, fueled by the possibility of an encounter with Alexander Stone.
I didn't understand why I hadn't had a chance to speak with him yet beyond handing in and receiving papers. Supposedly, as his secretary, I should be following him like a lapdog, or at least that's what I understood, but he didn't even react to my existence. He seemed to avoid any unnecessary interaction and I didn't understand why.
The hours passed, and just when I was beginning to resign myself to another day without seeing the CEO for more than 20 seconds, his office door opened. Stone appeared in the doorway, with a serious expression on his face and a palpable determination in his stride.
"Ethan! I need you to pick up some papers for me. They're in the file room, on the third floor," he called to me, and it felt like his voice resonated down the hallway.
It was the first time he had called me by my first name, and I was surprised that he even spoke to me at all. Usually, he just sent me an email with the instructions I was supposed to follow. Of course, I nodded quickly, trying to maintain my composure despite the thrill I felt at finally having a more human interaction with him.
"Of course, Mr. Stone," I replied a little nervously, luckily without stuttering but close to it.
I took the elevator to the third floor and headed to the file room. My mind was racing, thinking about the possible implications of this encounter. I wondered if maybe he was starting to value and consider my presence in the office.
I picked up the documents and returned to his office, knocking on the door beforehand, where I found him reviewing some reports at his desk. With trembling hands, I handed him the papers, avoiding eye contact.
"Thank you, Ethan, that's all for now," he said briefly, taking the documents from my hand, simply to continue focusing on his task.
I nodded nervously, wishing I could say something else, but unable to find the right words. My heart was racing again. I felt so silly for getting like this just because he called me by my first name. Although the illusion vanished when I realized that he would now ignore me and immerse himself in his work for quite a while.
I returned to my desk, thinking about everything that was going through my head and my heart. I wanted to convince myself that I liked Alexander just because he was handsome and successful, because the truth was I didn't even know him, and so far his personality was completely inaccessible. It was frustrating, but I brought myself down to earth for a moment when I realized that a dominant alpha like him would never fixate on an ordinary beta like me, who had nothing to offer him.

I think Alexander's reaction is pretty normal to me because why would your boss want to talk to you... like a conversation? I don't get it and I don't get Ethan🤦
