Episode 20

Estefan's POV

Right now, I'm in the middle of the pack, being held by one soldier while another points a gun at my head. The she-wolves are being loaded into the transport. It only took us a few days to get here since their transport is large and very fast. I see Mirtes crying, the others following her lead. I know she was giving them strength.

Mirtes: Is everyone alive?

I nod, and she smiles. I see a soldier behind them, snickering.

Soldier: Not for very long…

A chill runs down my spine. Goddess, are we going to be killed like this? What was the point of freeing the destined ones if we're just going to be killed again?

After two more full days, we arrive at a massive wall. It was like a pack, but when the gates opened, its size was absurd. It was a maximum-security prison, its walls covered in silver, wolfbane planted all around it, inside and out. The open cells gave us a view of what would now be our home.

Mirtes: My worst nightmare began here...

In the cell next to me are Mirtes, Maria, Ana, and Miranda.

Estefan: We'll get out of here. We'll find a way…

Maria: Forgive me for disagreeing with you, Supreme, but they’ve already escaped this place once.

Miranda: I almost went mad from the pain...

Anna: I wished for death as many times as I could.

I swallow, remembering that my mate was being brought here. As soon as the vehicle stops, I see Maia smiling as the wolves are taken inside. The soldiers cover Mirtes’ mouth, and I don’t understand. They turned her away so Maia wouldn’t see her.

Estefan: Why are they doing that?

Anna: Only Mirtes could bring Maia back… She causes a lot of damage when she loses control.

Estefan: We need to get them to talk.

Miranda: It’s almost impossible, Supreme.

Estefan: We'll see.

We’re taken inside, and I see my mate in the cell, but my eyes fall on the Alpha lying on the ground. I'm placed in the cell with Attila.

Estefan: What happened to him?

Attila: He lost control, Alpha, when Maia said she didn’t have a mate, so they sedated him.

Lucca's POV

It's been two days on the road. I see an immense wall surrounded by grass and, apparently, silver. A maximum-security prison. We're separated and placed in cells, the same layout as the transport. Attila, me, Erin, Bruno, and William are in the same wing.

Maia came to see us. She stood in front of the Luna, her back to me. I was going crazy being so close, so in a moment of madness, I grabbed her, caring little for the silver bars.

Lucca: MATE, YOU BELONG TO ME!

Maia: Let go of me! Are you crazy? I don't have a mate! Who would say an Alpha could be my mate?

I snapped. I lunged at the bars, nearly shifting, and roared, roared so much that all I heard was a non-lethal but sedative shot. I looked at her one last time, just a little longer, to admire the love of my life denying me as if I were nothing. It hurt more than the silver bars.

Lucca: Come back to me, Maia, please wake up, come back to me... I love you. For you, I am capable of anything, even death.

I black out, but the image of her wide eyes is seared into my mind—her beautiful eyes, now red, changing for a moment to my beloved purple, the perfect iris...
