chapter 8

She has caught a cold recently because she didn't get enough rest, but she never paid much attention to her physical condition. During the lunch break, Sophia called her and asked her to go home.

Crystal moved out of the Ford family a few years ago and lived on her own. Her mother didn't often call her or ask her to go home for dinner because she didn't like her very much, and she knew it.

Her mother's name is Sophia. She is the leader of the previous generation of the Ford family. Unlike the old wealthy families in City A, the Ford family has been in decline for a period of time. It is all supported by Sophia. Fortunately, Emma is strong enough. Now, the Ford family is a little stronger than before.

The study is a place where important matters are discussed. The nanny led Crystal straight to the second floor. Crystal opened the door and went in. She saw Sophia sitting at the main seat. Emma often sits on her right side, but she is not here today. When she came in, Evan told her that Emma had left and was on a business trip to City C.

"You're so angry," Evan said.

Evan had always disliked Crystal. He sat on his chair carelessly, preparing to watch the show.

Crystal didn't say anything, standing still in front of her.

Sophia had taken a sip of tea.

"What happened between you and Mr. Brandon?" Sophia asked.

Sophia knew that Crystal and Brandon were together.

As a shrewd businessman, if her daughter could get along with Brandon, it would only be beneficial to the family, so Sophia chose to turn a blind eye.

"I heard that you and Mr. Brandon had a quarrel. If the emotional issue is over, do you still need me to teach you?" Sophia inquired.

Crystal laughed to herself. How could she say this as a mother? She didn't care what identity Crystal played in this relationship, whether she had dignity, or whether she was happy. As long as there are benefits.

Crystal retorted lightly, "Mom, I'm an adult now. I don't need your guidance on emotional matters."

"How could we end up like this without my guidance? I didn't agree with what you said at the beginning. I originally thought... Forget it," Sophia's expression was a bit unpleasant.

"I heard from Emma that there seems to be some misunderstanding between you and Mr. Brandon. If you two really can't get along, you should break up," Sophia sighed.

"Crystal, I know how much you resent me and complain that I am not fair to you. If you really want to break up with Mr. Brandon, I support you."

"If there is a dispute with Mr. Brandon, I will mediate, Crystal. No matter what, you are my biological daughter. How could I abandon you? Although Mr. Brandon is powerful, he has not reached the point of covering the sky with one hand."

These words exploded in the study room like thunder. Standing up, even Evan, who was watching the show, couldn't help but say, "Mom, don't you know who Brandon is? Behind him is the entire Spencer Family. The Ford family has just improved in recent years. Do we really want to..."

"Crystal is your biological sister. You have no right to speak."

Evan looked at Sophia in disbelief, then looked at Crystal, and finally slammed the door and left.

Not only Evan was in disbelief, but Crystal was also shocked because this was the first time since Crystal returned to the Ford family at the age of twelve that Sophia spoke for her and considered her from her perspective, instead of saying she was stupid or useless.

Her mother said she is not well-educated, with a strange pronunciation in foreign languages, and not beautiful enough to be brought to a wealthy banquet for showing off like Emma.

"Mom... do you really think so?" Crystal showed an expression of disbelief. She smiled, but Sophia soon stopped smiling. She ordered her secretary to close the door, leaving only the two of them in the study.

"I helped you settle this matter because I really don't want the Ford family to be embarrassed because of you. Why is there such a shameless thing like you in our Ford family? Don’t you think the trouble you caused is not big enough? I thought you were just studying a few years later than Emma, but it’s not about study but your character has a problem. I really don’t want to see you again. After this incident is over, you will leave City A. From now on, Emma will inherit the Ford family, and you will not have to interfere with the family affairs."

For a person of noble birth, this seems to be a good idea. Every kindness is taken for granted, but for Crystal, every kindness and every smile that others treat her seems to have a price behind it. She can expect that Sophia's kindness comes with a price. The mother's kindness to the child was not without reason, but she did not expect that Sophia would ignore her to this extent.

"I know you lived a miserable life when you were young, but you don't have to torture me with this thing all the time." The mother's words were a bit unnatural. Crystal hadn't spoken yet, but she seemed to be trying to save something.

"After leaving City A, go to City C or City E. Our family's property is there..."

"Mom," Crystal interrupted, "Have you ever thought that if I had not been brought back by you, or if I had been tortured to death by the Jones family, you would only have one daughter, Emma, who would be the best?"

Sophia? She was stunned.

The set of teacups on her desk was given by Crystal. With her own money, Crystal's business talent was not inferior to Emma's. She just had too few opportunities. Sophia didn't want her to take over the Ford family's industry. Mainly... mainly out of her selfishness.

She was afraid that Crystal would be lost by her again.

She was afraid, was she really afraid? Sophia clenched her fists unconsciously. She was afraid that Crystal would suddenly disappear again. She was afraid that her life in the past few years was just a dream.

During the days and nights when she knew that Emma was not her biological child, she regretted every moment. She could not survive the suffering. She did not want Crystal to stand out. If possible, she wanted to hold Crystal under her wings and tell her not to move. To make up for everything her mother missed.

Sophia didn't know why she was like this. It was almost to the point of morbidity. Maybe it was a heart disease?

The set of teacups Crystal carefully selected was still broken. Sophia grabbed one and threw it towards Crystal, "Get out! Get out! Don't let me see you again!"
