CHAPTER 17: Gu Hai’s One Man Show

“You Qi, You Qi, You Qi…”

You Qi’s fangirls were indeed large in number. When they shouted loudly, their voices seemed to have the power to shake the ground. Even Bai Luoyin, who was standing to the side could feel his ears going deaf. He scoffed coldly to himself and thought, keeping shouting, soon even You Qi’s snot will rush out!

A burst of boos resounded, most of which came from the boys who were mocking him. But girls, on the other hand, murmured with a touch of admiration, “Our idol is really cute! So, he actually has something that he can’t do.”

Bai Luoyin poked You Qi’s soft chest. “Looks like the muscles that you’ve been flashing for nearly a month was in vain. Next time, just button up your damn shirt!”

You Qi grunted frostily, “You aren’t going to be any better at this than me.”

Bai Luoyin grabbed onto the bar.

The PE teacher’s face tensed up. His nervousness about Bai Luoyin was plain to see if one only looked. He quietly hoped to himself that Bai Luoyin would do less than ten. That way, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to surpass the current total pull-ups of everyone in the class.

“1, 2, 3…”

As the counting went on, the PE teacher’s facial expression changed for worse. He really hadn’t expected someone from this class to be this physically fit. As he watched the count go up to almost 30, his palms began to sweat.

You Qi, who was standing on the side, was shocked. Those bowls of rice weren’t excessive after all!

After Bai Luoyin did 30 pull-ups, he felt a bit fatigued but doing another ten shouldn’t be a serious problem. But after thinking it over, he let go of the bar. He should leave a bit of energy to walk home!

There was a loud round of applause from all side, seeing as his count was the highest yet. Moreover, when Bai Luoyin finished, his face wasn’t red, and he hadn’t even lost his breath. It looked like his strength wasn’t completely gone and that made the other boys envious of him.

After that, only Gu Hai remained.

“It’s your turn now, up you go.”

The PE teacher tilted his chin haughtily, looking down on Gu Hai.

Someone shouted from the middle of the crowd: “Teacher, Gu Hai has already done 100 push-ups. He surely hasn’t much strength left in his arms. It wouldn’t be fair to make him do this as well.”

The PE teacher pretended to give Gu Hai a once-over, “How about we continue this in the next class?”

“You do it first.”

The PE teacher was stunned for a moment.

Gu Hai maintained a courteous tone, “You do it first and once you’re done, I’ll do the total sum of everybody’s pull-ups.”

The teacher’s face darkened, “Quite the capable boy, aren’t you?”

The crowd began to shout again, “Together! Together!”

The teacher couldn’t believe it.

He is just an insignificant student! He was never a soldier, he never received any special training, never took drugs, yet he thinks he can meet the standards of a special force soldier? That’s impossible! He must be bluffing just to scare me!

The PE teacher was still at a loss when he was suddenly pushed enthusiastically toward the horizontal bar, while Gu Hai willingly walked over to the other bar. He wasn’t afraid to do it together since the person who would last longer was certainly him.

“Hold my jacket for me.”

Gu Hai took off his jacket and threw it at the boys.

When someone caught the jacket, Bai Luoyin reached his hand out to him, “Give the jacket to me, I’ll help him look after it.”

As all students’ attention was fixed on the horizontal bars, absentmindedly that boy gave Gu Hai’s uniform to Bai Luoyin right away.

“1, 2, 3, 4…”

Gu Hai moved steadily on the bar while Bai Luoyin made himself comfortable on the lawn and got busy. His thoughts were: Dude! Come on! I need you to do it for a long time!

In the beginning, the two were well-matched, both of them did it at a good speed. All of the students were cheering them on in loud voices because this kind of competition was rarely seen.

Gradually, the PE teacher began to slow down his pace causing the gap between the two too slowly grow. Gu Hai, who was beside him, showed no signs of tiring.

“Teacher, Gu Hai has already reached 100, but you’re still stuck at 70!”

Hearing that, the PE teacher collapsed. He went down the bar, completely defeated. The rest was Gu Hai’s one-man show.

The black thread in Bai Luoyin’s hands had run out a while ago, but when he looked at the bars, Gu Hai was still doing the pull-ups. He was sweating, his arms were red, and his breathing was heavy, yet he still insisted on continuing. The PE teacher who had already lost, stood beside the cheering crowd. He merely stayed still, without saying a word, feeling utterly defeated.

Bai Luoyin was watching Gu Hai silently, stunned. He had known that Gu Hai would win, but he hadn’t expected him to win by such an overwhelming difference. His physical fitness had was at such a high level where it was impossible for ordinary people to reach. Regardless of his personality, Bai Luoyin gave Gu Hai where the credit was due.

When the bell rang, Gu Hai jumped down from the bar, the students had stopped counting long ago, not that the number was important anymore. All of them knew that Gu Hai had already surpassed everyone’s expectations.

“Dude! You’re so awesome!” A guy patted Gu Hai’s shoulder.

Gu Hai took his uniform coat from one of the students, holding it over one shoulder. Then he started walking back to the classroom.

Bai Luoyin walked leisurely at the back of the crowd, next to You Qi, behind a group of girls who were talking about Gu Hai.

“My God. He’s really good, I think I admire him!”

“You would not be able to control that kind of guy. He’s too strong!”

“How come I’ve never found someone this good before?”

“…”

You Qi still had this charming expression, feeling rather embarrassed because he felt he’d lost today. And as he heard those girls talking about Gu Hai like that, he couldn’t help but feel devastated.

Bai Luoyin looked like he didn’t hear any of it as he just kept walking.

You Qi waved his hand in front of Bai Luoyin’s eyes.

“What are you thinking about?”

Bai Luoyin smiled. “Nothing.
